If you want to encourage business Downtown, you have to act like you want to be open for business.
It starts with the City making an attempt to plow and treat the Downtown Plaza, something that hasn't been done since it started snowing days ago.
Once the City takes revitalization seriously you might see other property owners doing what is necessary to clear the path for patrons.
Don't you find it interesting how you and I can be fined if we don't clear the sidewalks but the City, (who taxes us dearly) won't even plow the streets?
I'll give it this though. At least the people driving through the Plaza are finally doing the posted speed limit for once.
Its time for a new VISION. Its time for new LEADERSHIP. If I can get up and start clearing my path at 7:30 this morning, (again) the City can start doing their job. Things are about to change on April 2, 2013.
Joe, if this were private owned property the city would already be ticketing them. What gives. I also would like you to consider when you are mayor to closing the plaza to traffic. I spent more time their with my family when we could walk casually not worrying about being run over by speeders.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:28, thank you for that comment.
ReplyDeleteThere are many things to consider. Let's get this very clear here. I will reach out to all of the citizens of Salisbury to find out what their interests are first. I have ideas but I am only one person. I will run the City respectfully, not controlling. Together we will make decisions and then present it to the City Council for their vote.
I will most certainly agree there are a ton of speeders driving through the Plaza. In the mean time, I'd like to install two speed bumps, one at the top of the Plaza and one at the stop sign at the end of the Plaza.
If there was ever a place we need to slow people down it is the Downtown Plaza, I agree.
As far as tickets, these are privately owned properties. We are responsible for clearing the sidewalks just as residential property owners are.
However, how can a City fine people when they don't even clear their own walkways. Take lots of pictures Folks, even on your cell phones. No more, do as I say, not as I do.
I Agree.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy would the City plow downtown plaza with so few people, when our city development of 165 homes with high assessments & high taxes haven't seen a city plow?
ReplyDeleteYour focus on the re-birth of downtown Salisbury falls on deaf ears. In this day and age, even if you had free parking and tax incentives for retailers, no one would consistently shop there. Salisbury is not alone with it's death of downtown. Just a sign of the times. Sure, Berlin and Easton are different, but mainly because they aren't next to the slums, and they have owners who actually give a damn about their properties.
ReplyDeleteI wish Jim would just quit.
ReplyDeleteJoe when is your first debate?
ReplyDeleteI want to be there.
Because that is a hill full of ice! Could have at least dropped sand down that grade for better traction. Accident waiting to happen is what that is!
ReplyDelete10:38, I don't think Joe would disagree with you. They should both be done.
ReplyDeleteThere are many more streets all over the city. Sorry about yours. I've paid city taxes at my residence for five years and the city has NEVER cleaned my street. One inch or twelve they ain't coming.
ReplyDeleteAnd they want to ticket homeowners for not shoveling?
ReplyDeleteJoke!
