Family Of Woman Shot By Trooper Sues Md. State Police

A Frederick County family is suing Maryland State Police after a Libertytown woman died in her home after a 2010 confrontation with a state trooper.

Police were called to the home of Veronica Harding-Perkins at about 12:45 a.m. June 17, 2010, after her husband, Dean Perkins, called 911 to report that she had been drinking and throwing furniture onto the sidewalk from their home in the 12100 block of Liberty Road, police said.

When then-Cpl. Eric Corbin arrived, he entered a business attached to the house and saw a gun in Harding- Perkins' hand, police said.

  1. Uh huh. The woman was throwing sofas and chairs out the front door with one hand, while holding a .45 in the other. Seeing THAT, the cop realized that one on one against a woman, he had no chance. Another person dead. Another hero gets a plaque. How many people in this country have called the police, only to have them show up and KILL their husband, wife, or kid? Is THAT their best response? Is THAT their training? Makes you want to just wait and clean up the front yard in the morning. You can only throw so much furniture around before you get tired and say "I'm going to bed". You would, at least, not have to bury anyone.

  2. She pointed the gun at the trooper. Open and shut case. She deserved what she got.

  3. THAT's what HE says. If I was him, I'd say the same thing....and the story says he "saw" a gun. NOT one "pointed" at him, Quick Draw.

  5. Are we ever going to hear about the investigation into the police shooting in Princess Anne on the highway last year? I know the officers involved had no choice but it seems like it was all swept under the rug because the family has been quiet about it too, which they were not originally. Please tell me our broke state did not give a big payout to the surviving family members of a career criminal.

  6. The husband needs to be charged also. For leaving his firearm unsecure around an idiot/drunk wife.
