A bill that would increase the cost of a hunting license for an adult Maryland resident by $20 and help the financially strapped Wildlife & Heritage Service will be introduced at the General Assembly, which opens for legislative business Wednesday.
The bill, which does not yet have a number, would raise the cost from $24.50 to $44.50 for hunters ages 16 to 64. The cost for senior and junior licenses would not be affected. Neither would there be increases in the costs of stamps, such as those for hunting with bow or muzzleloader, according to Bill Miles of the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Foundation, the nonpartisan group guiding the effort.
“We’re calling it the Wildlife Management & Sustainability Act of 2013,” Miles said. “This bill is not being led by the Department of Natural Resources, but by the sportsmen of Maryland.”

ReplyDeleteBull doo doo...
Double the cost?? Come on MD...
ReplyDeleteThis is same as they tried last year.
I'll bet this government agency ain't supporting a ban on guns!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!! Now I can go buy meat at Walmart cheaper than I can get it in the woods!! They are taxing hunters right out of existence. Who will foot the bill when we are gone?
ReplyDeleteFairness across the board, raise the fees on everyone. No exception for seniors or juniors, they get enough discounts.
ReplyDeletewell if you dont hunt you wont need your guns
ReplyDeleteI stopped buying a license years ago....I only hunt on my land or other private property. No license, no season, no limits.
ReplyDeleteRight. "Sportsmen" can't wait to pay more fees. None of us can. Higher taxes, fees, fines (those "sportsmen" LOVE it when the game wardens trample through the woods "inspecting" citizens to make sure they have all their "papers", hoping to fine someone for something -anything). Its a wonder to me that they (game wardens) ever make it out of the woods alive. But politicians and their mouthpieces (like Miles) can't stop spending and coming up with new "programs" and "initiatives" and they MUST have more money. But, hey, there's another election soon. maybe THIS time you people can find someone who will "change" things....MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

ReplyDeleteYou beat me to it. I think that is their intention. Many people hunt so they can eat because the price of meat in the stores have gone up so much. This will only hurt them even more. Pretty soon if not already it will be cheaper to just buy meat at the store. The government can then say we don't need guns for hunting since there are so few that hunt.
The only reason for license fees is to pay for employees. I have never had the benefit from calling the DNR to report a crime, When I called, it was like talking to Wal Mart on a stock item. They were in no way interested in viewing a 200+ pound buck buried with it's head cut off. No interest whatsoever, unless a "crime" was being committed.
ReplyDeleteHow do you spell trash?
I spell it , "DNR"
well if you dont hunt you wont need your guns

We still need them to keep the government and police at bay.
