300 Levees In Need Of Urgent Repair
Millions of Americans are at risk of having their homes flooded, as a result of our deteriorating infrastructure.According to an investigation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, more than 300 levees covering more than 2,000 miles around the country are in need of "urgent repair", and risk failing. And this problem could be much worse, as only 40% of the nearly 2,500 structures, which protect 10 million people from floods, have been reviewed so far. In New Orleans in 2005, we saw the horrific consequences of what happens when levees fail. And these deteriorating levees are part of a bigger problem – a deteriorating infrastructure. According to the American Society of Civil Engineers – our infrastructure requires $1.6 trillion in repairs – and if nothing is done by the end of the decade, that number will grow to nearly $3 trillion. Decaying infrastructure is estimated to cost our economy 3.5 million jobs over the next decade. Of course, there's a simple solution to all of this: Invest government money into rebuilding and modernizing our nation's infrastructure. Unfortunately, since such a thing will put tens of millions of Americans back to work, improve our economy, and prove that the government can indeed be a force for economic good – Republicans in Congress are blocking this much needed infrastructure stimulus. So, you know who to call next time the levees break – John Boehner and Eric Cantor.
a couple of years ago a levee in Massachussets was in serious question because it was nearly 200 years old.I can't recall if it held up during the storm, but it had everyone concerned.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you think the federal government would make this and other life saving infrastructer projects a priority? Afterall didn't Pelosi say she and other lawmakers took an oath "to protect and defend"-LOL?
ReplyDeleteThe difference is it has to take rich white people getting killed like the kids in Newtown before this BLACK president gets off his butt and does something! To him and his minions blacks and poor people are his peons worth no more than a vote for them. And the peons keep on falling for all the lies, get no results but continue to vote them in like obeying little mindless slaves.
Check your facts, the Republicans have repeatedly defunded, underfunded or flat out voted down any and all infrastructure funding in this country.
ReplyDelete11:11,You are WRONG-FYI the democrats had control of both houses of Congress during Obama's first 2 years. They could have passed complete funding for any and all infrustructure projects they wanted to but choose instead to waste billions on fly by night companies like Solyndra. Check your facts! For 2 full years everything on Obama's agenda was passed-Check you facts. This wasn't on his agenda-Check your facts.
ReplyDeleteIn 2009 (one of the years the Democrats had control of Congress), Obama proposed and included in his "economic stimulus package" $90 BILLION for energy projects including solar and wind power and it passed.
ReplyDeleteWhy wasn't this money spent on more useful things like the projects mentioned? The 90 billion he gave away is now gone-wasted and no jobs to speak of were created nor any lasting results. With him there is nothing to show for our money.
Yeah 11:11 Where did you get your info from? Did you hear it somewhere or did you just make it up? Looking forward to your answer.
ReplyDeleteFact is that yes, Obama and the dems had 2 full years to fund and impliment anything they wanted and did so cleverly disguised as "economic stimulus." Only thing stimulated was Obama's buddies (in the "clean energy" field) wallets to the tune of 90 billion. Get Obamabucks, pay yourself a hugh bonus, declare bankruptcy---why not? why bust your butt working when you can pay yourself a hugh bonus and never have to worry about money ever again?
