HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CONTROVERSIAL ANTI-OBAMA NAVY SEAL BILLBOARD IN TEXAS?

“The SEALS removed one threat to America. Remove the other in November,” reads a controversial billboard currently on display along I-35 in North Texas.
The sign, featuring two camouflaged men and military style font, indicates that it’s a political ad, paid for by TJ Schad, CBS DFW   reports. Schad, a former Air Force mechanic, claims he’s not acting on the behalf of any committee, candidate, or party. He says he got the idea after he received an email suggesting the image and its message go “on every billboard across the country.”
“It just started out as something fun to do,” he said. “Let’s see if I could do it. I didn’t have a clue how to do it.”

What wasn't so fantastic was the turn out. When we decided to make this special, our biggest concern was interfering with the lunch time crowd Phil is accustomed to each week day. So we decided to do this at 5 PM and guess what, we were wrong.

We had a very nice crowd at 5 PM but after 6 PM it just died out. So, that being said, Phil has agreed to extend this $1.00 per Slider for tomorrow from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

We know what kind of following we have here each day and we've done these specials in the past and they were extremely successful. The only difference was, we did them at noon.

Phil is a great guy with a great business. Come out tomorrow for lunch and give it a shot. Unfortunately I cannot be there because of a prior commitment.

To those of you who did come out tonight, thank you very much. We handed out several tee shirts to people and we appreciate the support.

Burger King Fired Pentecostal Teen Who Refused To Wear Pants, Lawsuit Claims

Ashanti McShan was 17 years old when she got a job at Burger King. But on her first day working there, a manager allegedly told the Dallas-area teenager to leave. Because of her Christian Pentecostal faith, McShan says, she had to wear a skirt instead of the restaurant uniform's slacks, and the manager wasn't having it, according to a religious discrimination lawsuit   filed Wednesday by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
McShan says that she explained in her Burger King job interview in August 2010 that her religious beliefs require strict adherence to Scripture, which for her meant that as a female she had to wear skirts or dresses and never pants. It states in Deuteronomy 22:5: "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God."

PRESIDENT INFANTICIDE: DEM ABORTION PLATFORM DOES NOT EXCLUDE PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION

President Clinton believed abortion should be "safe, rare; and legal." But Clinton also believed in a work requirement in his welfare reform bill.

President Obama apparently disagrees on both counts.
After unilaterally allowing states to waive the central pillar of the landmark and bipartisan 1996 welfare reform act -- the work requirement -- Obama has also proven himself to be a wild-eyed extremist on the issue of abortion and way out of step with at least two-thirds of the American people. And his convention platform backs this extremism up.
In 2008, the Democrat Party platform on abortion read this way:
The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.

Obama 2016

It seems very curious that the "Obama 2016" movie is playing in Salisbury and there is no mention of it in the Salisbury Times movie listings or at the theatre in upcoming feature previews. Just wondering if it is normal for certain movies to be left out of this schedule and previews.

CALLER DENIES HATE CRIME, SAYS HE LEFT RAW BACON NEAR RAMADAN PRAYER SERVICE FOR STRAY ANIMALS

On Tuesday, various   news   outlets   reported that someone had left raw bacon scattered around the field near the site of Ramadan prayers in Staten Island, presumably to offend the Muslims worshipers.
Hesham El-Meligy, founder of the Islamic Civic Association-Staten Island commented  : “It’s unfortunately a manifestation of the atmosphere and the irresponsible rhetoric of some politicians and some in the public.”
But now, a New York City newspaper has received an anonymous call from a person claiming to have discarded the spoiled bacon– and there was allegedly no offense intended to Muslims.

Detained Marine Veteran Now Released, Per Judge’s Order

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – A Hopewell circuit court judge has ordered that a Marine veteran detained over anti-government Facebook posts be released from a psychiatric hospital.

CBS 6 News’ Catie Beck said the Judge Allan Sharrett dismissed the case Thursday against Brandon Raub. The judge said the original petition for Raub’s detention contained no facts. In other words, there was no information on why Raub was being held — and the judge deemed this violated his civil liberties.

As a result, the judge ruled the government had no grounds to hold Raub.

Immigration Agents Sue To Stop Obama’s Non-Deportation Policy

Saying they’re fed up with being told they can’t do their jobs, 10 immigration agents on Thursday sued the Obama administration to try to halt the president’s new non-deportation policy and an earlier memo instructing them not to go after rank-and-file illegal immigrants.
The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Texas, adds a legal controversy to the political fight that has been brewing over President Obama’s immigration policies, which have steadily narrowed the range of immigrants the government is targeting for deportation.
The 10 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and deportation officers said Mr. Obama’s policies force them to choose between enforcing the law and being reprimanded by superiors, or listening to superiors and violating their own oaths of office and a 1996 law that requires them to put those who entered the country illegally into deportation proceedings.

Annoyed Wife Turns In Husband to Police for 'Getting on My Nerves'

A woman who turned in her husband to Wisconsin police on outstanding warrant said she did it because he was getting on her nerves.

Adrienne Bolds, 55, told ABCNews.com Wednesday night that her husband's friends called her around 1:30 a.m. Monday to ask her to pick him up from their house. When she arrived, she said she found her husband drunk and belligerent. She had to be at work at 5 a.m.

"I've always just went and got him and just ignored him," she said, speaking of similar calls she's had in the past to pick up her husband, Johnnie Bolds.

IRAN WARNS SECRET U.S. BASES WILL BE HIT

Six American military bases in Israel will be destroyed by Iranian missiles should Israel attack Iranian nuclear facilities, the Islamic regime is warning the United States.
 “America has several secret military bases in different areas of the occupied Palestinian territory (Israel) at which it houses ammunition, smart bombs, missiles and other military armaments,” Basij News,  the official outlet of the Iranian Basij forces, reported Tuesday, quoting an Iranian diplomat in an interview with the Arabian media outlet Al Moheet.
“Also, a 500-bed hospital is located in one of these bases. … Should Israel attack Iran, then surely those bases will become the targets for Iranian missiles.”

Board Renews Contract For Used Vehicle Program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland board has renewed a contract for an initiative to supply used cars to the needy to enable them to get to full-time jobs.

The Maryland Board of Public Works voted 3-0 on Wednesday to renew a one-year contract for about $330,000, despite some reservations expressed by board members about the number of vehicles provided.

I covered from Nanticoke Road all the way down to the Salisbury Police Station. It's amazing the difference. I only did the curb area but as you can see in the 3rd picture the weeds have overgrown so much it almost covers a 5 ft wide sidewalk.

Illegal Immigrants Could Reap More Than $7B In Tax Credits This Year, Senator Says

Illegal immigrants could receive more than $7 billion this year in federal tax credits, according to one estimate, thanks to a loophole in the law that allows people not authorized to work to reap the government payments with no questions asked. 
Sen. Jeff Sessions' office calculated that, based on recent trends, illegal immigrants could receive roughly $7.4 billion through a provision known as the Additional Child Tax Credit. That's more than quadruple what the payout was four years ago, but the payments have been steadily increasing over the past decade.

GOTTA LOVE NIALL FERGUSON

Two days ago, historian Niall Fergsuon had the temerity to voice a personal opinion, one which happens to not exactly jive with the rest of the media’s take on current events, on the cover page of Newsweek (Newsweek is still in print?) titled, succinctly enough, “Hit the road Barack: Why we need a new president.” The response was fast, furious, and brutal, particularly emanating from what Ferguson has dubbed the “liberal blogosphere.” Naturally in an election year, said blogosphere has much CPM-generating rumination to do (after all who knows what happens to all those ad revenues if the US corporate base implodes and all that cash on the sidelines stays there due to “policy uncertainty”), so Ferguson merely provided the chum in the water (once the time comes to pick up the calculators again after the presidential election, things will immediately quiet down but until then there is, sadly, at least two more months of ever rising cacophony). So did Ferguson back off having said his piece? Hell no. In fact, he has just made sure that the “liberal blogosphere” is will be burning the midnight oil for weeks to come engaged in completely meaningless point-counterpoint between itself and the historian, when, in reality nothing changes the simple fact that come August 2016, the US will have a simply idiotic 130%+ debt/GDP completely independent of who is in the White House, or in other words, there very well may not be another presidential election. For now, however, we have much needed bread and circuses. Harassed Bus Monitor Starts Foundation

The upstate New York school bus monitor who received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations after a video of her being harassed by students went viral has decided to use some of the proceeds to start her own anti-bullying foundation.

Now retired, Karen Klein, 68, has decided to start her own campaign, called the Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation, on the website giveback.org. "This is for education, for people who have been bullied," Klein told CNN affiliate WROC.

Klein was working as a middle school bus monitor when four students berated her with a stream of profanity, insults, jeers and physical ridicule.

Romney Builds Cash Edge Over Obama As Conventions Near

Presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his Republican allies entered August, and the final weeks before the national conventions, with more money to spend than President Barack Obama and the Democrats.

Romney, the Republican National Committee and two allied super-political action committees reported a combined bank account balance of $169 million on July 31. That compared with $107 million for the president, the Democratic National Committee and the pro-Obama Priorities USA Action. The figures are based on disclosures filed yesterday with the Federal Election Commission.

Middle Class Share Of America's Income Shrinking

The middle class is receiving less of America's total income, declining to its smallest share in decades as median wages stagnate in the economic doldrums and wealth concentrates at the top.

A study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center highlights diminished hopes, too, for the roughly 50 percent of adults defined as middle class, with household incomes ranging from $39,000 to $118,000. The report describes this mid-tier group as suffering its "worst decade in modern history," having fallen backward in income for the first time since the end of World War II.

Three years after the recession technically ended, middle class Americans are still feeling the economic pinch, with most saying they have been forced to reduce spending in the past year. And fewer now believe that hard work will allow them to get ahead in life. Families are now more likely to say their children's economic future will be the same or worse than their own.

To the Citizens of Berlin and the Patrons of Berlin Fire Company Setting the Record Straight

The following statement is from the Berlin Fire Company regarding the recent events which have occurred between the Fire Company and the Mayor & Council of Berlin:

Allegations of Discrimination

In March of 2012, the Fire Company was advised by the Mayor & Council that certain allegations related to discrimination had occurred. The Fire Company thereupon requested the Mayor & Council to provide the complaint(s) made, the reports of investigation allegedly conducted by the Town of Berlin’s HR Director and the Town Administrator, and other specific information with respect to the alleged actions of the Fire Company, so that the Fire Company could determine how it would respond to such allegations. The Town Administrator advised that no such information would be forthcoming and, as recently stated in the Wednesday, August 22 article “...the Town was not able to share personnel items with an outside entity.”

The previous relationship between the Mayor & Council of Berlin and the Fire Company was formulated by virtue of a “Leased Employee Agreement” entered into in January 1, 2009. By that Agreement, the employees which were, and continue to be, employees of the Fire Company were “leased” to the Town in order to be eligible for State retirement benefits. Therefore, it is not accurate that the Berlin Fire Company is an “outside entity” as it remains the primary employer of the personnel. As of the date of this letter, the Fire Company has still not received from the Town any documentation or specific information relating to the matter despite repeated and increasingly insistent requests. The Town claims it has verification yet refused to provide any evidence of it. The Town claims to have fully investigated yet has not interviewed a single volunteer of the Fire Company – it has never even requested to do so.

What the Fire Company has done

The Fire Company has always followed a written policy against workplace harassment, hostility and discrimination. When a complaint arises, the matter is investigated and any necessary action is taken. Regardless of being denied the specifics of the allegations against us, the Fire Company conducted its own investigation in spite of the lack of specifics and cooperation by the Town. As a result of discussions with the Town, the Fire Company’s entire volunteer constituent (approximately 65 members) underwent professional workplace anti-discrimination and anti-harassment training upon pain of being discharged from the Company if they refused. Every single volunteer attended.

As a result of the discussions with the Town and at the Town’s request that one volunteer step down, regardless of whether discrimination or harassment occurred, several volunteers have stepped aside from their supervisory positions for the good of their families and of the Fire Company and in an effort to accommodate the Town. The volunteers’ actions were an attempt to allow the Fire Company to focus on its mission of protecting and serving the public without an on-going controversy with the Town.

The Fire Company has instituted a strict anti-discrimination, anti-harassment policy, anti-retaliation policy. Mandatory workplace anti-discrimination/harassment training sessions shall be conducted annually. Personnel policies and operational policies are being updated and/or drafted to ensure that the Fire Company operates in an efficient, safe and professional manner.

The Berlin Fire Company is not going to use the media to debate the facts with the Town but denies the allegation that it engaged in employment discrimination or harassment.

Litigation

The article and the editorial of The Daily Times referred to “legal proceedings in connection with the matter.” That legal proceeding is not against the Fire Company.

In fact, those legal proceedings were instituted by a former employee, the EMS employee supervisor, against the Town of Berlin only. The allegations in that lawsuit include that the Town of Berlin terminated the employment of the supervisor as a retaliatory measure for the supervisor exercising his rights under the Town’s personnel manual when he disputed his suspension which was allegedly related to the discrimination complaints. That litigation, while presently on-going, is not against the Fire Company.

Cause of Funding Termination

Over the last five months, under constant threat of defunding, the Fire Company has attempted to accommodate the Town’s increasing efforts to control operations of the EMS, including staffing and scheduling of EMS personnel even though the Fire Company is in the best position to know when EMS personnel are needed and when volunteers are generally unavailable. The EMS professional personnel are supplemented by the participation of numerous members of the Fire Company, approximately 40 of whom are certified EMS personnel. The participation of the volunteers has historically been a significant and important contribution to the maintenance of public safety for the citizens, residents and visitors to the Town of Berlin and surrounding areas in North Worcester County. Notwithstanding those facts, the Town Administrator of Berlin, with the apparent support of the Mayor & Council, has steadfastly refused to allow the Fire Company to participate in scheduling the EMS personnel.

That takeover of control was the cause of the Fire Company advising the Town that the Fire Company’s primary mission of serving and protecting the public was being detrimentally affected by the Town’s assertion of its authority. The Fire Company notified the Town that it would take over all supervision and direction of the EMS personnel to achieve that mission. As a result of the notification, given to the Town on Thursday, August 16, the Town notified the Fire Company on August 21, 2012 that the Town is completely defunding the Fire Company, for both fire safety funding and EMS service funding.

Public Safety

The sole mission of the Berlin Fire Company since its inception in 1910, 102 years ago, has been the public safety of the citizens, residents and visitors to the Town of Berlin and the surrounding area of Northern Worcester County. Based on allegations which the Town has refused to fully apprise the Fire Company of, and despite the efforts by the Fire Company to respond to those matters, the Mayor & Council of Berlin have chosen to terminate all funding regardless of the resulting adverse effect upon public safety in the Town of Berlin. The Fire Company has maintained emergency medical service for the Town since 1964 and is the sole and exclusive provider of such services, in addition to its proud and long standing tradition of providing fire safety protection of lives and property in the Town of Berlin. The Fire Company is intent upon continuing such services notwithstanding the drastic and precipitous termination of all funding by the Town of Berlin. The Berlin Fire Company will strive, to the best of its ability, utilizing the services of both professional personnel and volunteers of the Company to continue such services for the citizens of the Town and surrounding areas.

In the last year the Fire Company provided the following service to the residents of the Town of Berlin and residents and visitors to the Northern Worcester County area: 2011 - 294 Fire calls and 1574 EMS calls; January through June, 2012 - 188 fire calls and 777 EMS calls.

The Fire Company believes that it is much better situated to continue providing fire and emergency medical services to the people of Berlin and the surrounding areas than the Town. First and foremost, the fire company has the knowledge, expertise and experience to do so. Further, due to the commitment, devotion, service and sacrifice of its volunteers, the Fire Company is able to provide the services at a severely reduced cost to the Town. The Town has granted $557,360 to Fire Company for both fire and EMS. The cost to the Fire Company is near $2 million. For the Town to provide fire and emergency medical services, it would have to hire professional fireman and EMS providers, house them, purchase and maintain vehicles, and provide the administration for the provision of the services. The initial and annual cost to the Town would greatly exceed the roughly $600,000 provided to the Fire Company.

As the only professional entity with the capability of providing EMS services and fire safety services to the area, the Berlin Fire Company will continue its tradition of professional and effective public safety services to the Town of Berlin.

Not only did the President and his partners in Congress take $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for Obamacare, but they also raise taxes by $836.3 billion to pay for it, with $36.3 billion hitting Americans in 2013 alone. Study: Tattoo Infections Traced To Tainted Ink

An outbreak of infected tattoos has led to an unlikely source: the ink.

With the growing popularity of tattoos, health officials say they are seeing more cases of a nasty skin infection caused by a common bacteria traced to the ink. In the largest outbreak, 19 people in Rochester, N.Y., ended up with bubbly rashes on their new tattoos, researchers reported Wednesday.

Infections from tattooing are nothing new. Hepatitis, staph infections and even the superbug known as MRSA have been tied to tattoos. Dirty needles and unsanitary conditions are often to blame.

The Truth About Neoconservatism

The modern-day, limited-government movement has been co-opted. The conservatives have failed in their effort to shrink the size of government. There has not been, nor will there soon be, a conservative revolution in Washington. Political party control of the federal government has changed, but the inexorable growth in the size and scope of government has continued unabated. The liberal arguments for limited government in personal affairs and foreign military adventurism were never seriously considered as part of this revolution.

Since the change of the political party in charge has not made a difference, who's really in charge? If the particular party in power makes little difference, whose policy is it that permits expanded government programs, increased spending, huge deficits, nation building and the pervasive invasion of our privacy, with fewer Fourth Amendment protections than ever before?

Someone is responsible, and it's important that those of us who love liberty, and resent big-brother government, identify the philosophic supporters who have the most to say about the direction our country is going. If they're wrong – and I believe they are – we need to show it, alert the American people, and offer a more positive approach to government. However, this depends on whether the American people desire to live in a free society and reject the dangerous notion that we need a strong central government to take care of us from the cradle to the grave. Do the American people really believe it's the government's responsibility to make us morally better and economically equal? Do we have a responsibility to police the world, while imposing our vision of good government on everyone else in the world with some form of utopian nation building? If not, and the enemies of liberty are exposed and rejected, then it behooves us to present an alternative philosophy that is morally superior and economically sound and provides a guide to world affairs to enhance peace and commerce.

Military "Cuts": Don't Believe The Hype

Grover Norquist, the influential conservative activist, recently made some very frank and sobering remarks about the US military budget. Unlike many conservatives, Mr. Norquist understands that American national security interests are not served by the interventionist foreign policy mindset that has dominated both political parties in recent decades. He also understands that there is nothing "conservative" about incurring trillions of dollars in debt to engage in hopeless nation building exercises overseas.

Speaking at the Center for the National interest last week, Norquist stated that "We can afford to have an adequate national defense which keeps us free and safe and keeps everybody afraid to throw a punch at us, as long as we don't make some of the decisions that previous administrations have, which is to over extend ourselves overseas and think we can run foreign governments."

He continued: "Bush decided to be the mayor of Baghdad rather than the president of the United States. He decided to occupy Iraq and Afghanistan rather than reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. That had tremendous consequences... Richard Nixon said that America's national defense needs are set in Moscow, meaning that we wouldn't have to spend so much if they weren't shooting at us. The guys who followed didn't notice that the Soviet Union disappeared."

When a prominent DC conservative like Grover Norquist makes such bold statements, it shows that public support for a truly conservative foreign policy is growing. The American people simply cannot stomach more wars and more debt, especially with our domestic economy in tatters.

Romney, Paul Ryan Lead Obama In Wisconsin Poll

Though a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll showed the net-zero effect that Paul Ryan seems to be having as Mitt Romney's running mate nationwide, swing-state polls have displayed the "bump" that traditionally comes from vice presidential candidates.

Romney has improved his standing in six crucial swing-state polls since the Ryan announcement: Michigan, Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

Here's a state-by-state breakdown:

Ohio: Romney and Ryan got a good start there last week, with a new Purple Strategies survey showing Romney leading the state by 2 points. It was Romney's first lead in Ohio since a Rasmussen poll in May. Before that, Romney had not had an advantage in the state since a Fox News poll in February. Moreover, the Purple Strategies poll found that Ryan was viewed more favorably than Vice President Joe Biden, and voters saw the Romney-Ryan ticket as more likely to bring "real change" to Washington.

Virginia: The same Purple Strategies poll also showed that Ryan propelled the ticket to a lead in the Old Dominion, after Obama had leads in 13 of the last 14 polls of the state. The poll could be an outliers, but again, Ryan was viewed more favorably than both Biden and President Barack Obama. Jeffrey Dahmer's Childhood Home For Sale In Ohio

BATH, Ohio (AP) - The childhood home of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is for sale in northern Ohio.

The three-bedroom, 2,170-square foot home on a private wooded lot in Bath, near Akron, was the site of Dahmer's first murder, in 1978. He moved to Wisconsin in 1982 and went on to kill 16 more people before his crimes were discovered in 1991. He was killed in prison in 1994 by a fellow inmate.

Dahmer's parents bought the house in 1968, when he was 8.

Attention U.S. Military: You are Being Demonized

It’s now becoming overt. The meme emanating rapidly from the mainstream media is that the U.S. military is a threat to the nation! It sounds very 1984 and backwards, but what isn’t these days. What really captured my attention is a very clever and dangerous article published by Reuters titled “U.S. Army battling racists within its own ranks.” It sounds benign enough at first and as you continue to read it all seems pretty reasonable. Who wants crazy racists running around the armed forces? Nobody. That said, there is a tone throughout that clearly attempts to make the sheeple public suspicious about returning veterans, which is bothersome in its own right considering these young men and women are being sacrificed daily by the elite power structure that would never dip their dainty little toes anywhere near any action.

Still, the article didn’t really get me concerned until the section where they discuss a presentation that the U.S. Army itself is apparently showing to its own troops. Reuters watched this presentation and they write:

“The standard hateful message has not been replaced, just packaged differently with issues like freedom of speech, anti-gun control themes, tax reform and oppression,” the presentation says, noting that recruitment may be difficult to detect, occurring quietly “in bars and break areas” on bases.

Come On, Really?


This picture doesn't give this situation justice but allow me to try and explain.

Again, along Rt. 50 at the Perdue Plant there's a FIVE ft. tall fence, (NOT 6 ft.). Much of it is falling into the walkway and much of the barbed wiring on the top of it has been crushed down from people obviously scaling the fence in certain areas.

So the first thing you have to wonder is, how's it working for you, security wise? The trees have matured enough you could climb one in a heartbeat and easily scale the fence.

What also bothered me id the 5 ft height to the fence and then the barbed wire angling over the sidewalk. To make it worse, many of their inside vehicles have backed into the fence over the years interfering onto the sidewalk AND lowering the barbed wire.

Open your eyes Mayor Ireton. Take a walk around Salisbury. At least try to ACT like a Mayor who gives a darned and so something, other than Press Conferences.

Can You Really Teach A Kid To Become Bully-Proof?

Teaching kids to become "bullyproof" is all the rage. Books, videos and websites promise to show parents how to protect their kids from being bullied; school districts are buying curricula with names like "Bully-Proofing Your School," a well-regarded program used in thousands of classrooms. Even martial arts programs are getting into the act: "Bullyproofing the world, one child at a time," is the motto for a jujitsu program called Gracie Bullyproof.

But can you really make a child invulnerable to getting picked on? And even if you could, should the burden really be on potential victims to learn these skills, rather than on punishing or reforming the bullies?

Do You See What I See?


As you walk along Business Rt. 50 near the Perdue Plant, the sidewalk is just unbelievable! Can you just imagine the lawsuit someone could file with this kind of evidence!

It's bad enough someone could easily trip over this but think about anyone stubbing their toes on it as well. How about walking a stroller along this and slamming into it. It is NOT going to ride over it.

Click on the picture and enlarge it to see just how bad this is. Again, you need a Mayor who will take the TIME to go through neighborhoods to see what's really going on. This didn't happen overnight.

New research from Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions (R-AL) reveals that this reality may already be here, with more than 107 million Americans on some form of means-tested government welfare.

Add to that 46 million seniors collecting Medicare (subtracting out about 10 million on Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, and other senior-eligible programs already included in Sessions’ means-tested chart) and 22 million government employees at the federal, state, and local level — and suddenly, over 165 million people, a clear majority of the 308 million Americans counted by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010, are at least partially dependents of the state.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do



When you are heading east on business Rt. 50 and you look onto the shoulder of the road and the sidewalk that runs right next to it, this is what you see.

As Mayor of Salisbury, I would make sure that ANY time you enter this City and drive through it, it will be as nice as humanly possible. Even if that means reaching out to volunteers to help us if things are that tight financially.

Clearly the Mayor does not get out and about to see what's going on. Clearly the Mayor doesn't care. I'm telling you straight up, I'd be one of those volunteers. This is ridiculous. I don't care if some of you come back here and say that road is a state road, IT'S IN OUR CITY! IF we citizens have to help the state, so be it.

Deferring on Budget No Longer An Option, CBO Says

Congress‘ chief scorekeeper warned Wednesday that the country’s top lawmakers can’t continue to put off big decisions on the budget and the economy much longer, and said either path — belt-tightening now or even deeper cuts later — will be painful.

The Congressional Budget Office, which released its annual August update, said the deficit for fiscal year 2012 is pretty much set at more than $1.1 trillion — the fourth straight year of trillion-dollar deficits, dating back to the end of President George W. Bush’s term and covering all of President Obama’s 3½ years in office.

Now, Congress and Mr. Obama are grappling with 2013 and beyond, and CBO said their options range from immediate belt-tightening and a double-dip recession that clears the economic and fiscal air, to continuing to pump money into the economy and delay, but likely worsen, an eventual reckoning.

TROOPERS INCREASE EFFORTS TO REDUCE CRASHES THIS WEEKEND

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – As part of a national effort to reduce an increase in traffic fatalities, Colonel Marcus L. Brown, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, has directed troopers to increase their efforts to reduce traffic crashes through enforcement this weekend.

Each of the 22 Maryland State Police barracks will deploy special patrols this weekend to reduce crashes in their areas of responsibility. Nationally, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic fatalities are up 13.5 percent for the first quarter of 2012. In Maryland, there was an increase of 6 percent. From January 1, 2011 to July 23, 2011, there were 239 fatalities on Maryland roads. During the same period this year, there were 251 fatalities. Additional crash reduction enforcement initiatives will be conducted throughout 2012.

Aggressive drivers, speed violators, distracted drivers, impaired drivers and seatbelt violators will be the focus for Maryland state troopers, particularly in high crash areas throughout the state. State Police crash data reveals the following highways as key roads for the crash reduction efforts: Interstate 695 and Interstate 83 in Baltimore County, Interstate 495 in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, Interstate 70 in Baltimore, Howard, and Frederick counties and U.S. Route 301 in Prince George’s County. Barracks serving other parts of the state will be conducting enforcement efforts in key areas identified locally as having a high number of crashes.

“This is a statewide public safety concern and we believe focusing our attention on those areas prone to motor vehicle crashes will lead to safer travel for all motorists,” Colonel Marcus L. Brown said. “This enforcement initiative is an effective means of preventing a raise of motor vehicle crashes in Maryland. Our troopers will be out in force specifically targeting aggressive and distracted drivers, speed violators, impaired drivers, and those not wearing their seatbelts.”

The crash reduction enforcement initiative is part of the Maryland Strategic Highway Safety Plan. The Strategic Highway Safety Plan, or SHSP, is a statewide, comprehensive safety plan designed to reduce crashes and the resulting fatalities and injuries by sharing resources and targeting efforts to the areas of greatest need. Partners in the SHSP include the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Motor Vehicle Administration and the Maryland Highway Safety Office. The Maryland State Police, in cooperation with local law enforcement, is supporting the enforcement component of the plan.

The goal of the SHSP is to reduce motor vehicle fatalities and crashes in Maryland. Troopers plan to achieve this goal by deterring motorists from speeding and engaging in poor driving practices with aggressive enforcement and zero tolerance for traffic violations.

The Maryland State Police remind motorists to avoid aggressive driving behavior, to obey the speed limit, to be attentive drivers, avoid driving while impaired, and to make sure all occupants are wearing seatbelts or are in child safety seats in the vehicle. A driver’s effort may save their life or the life of another.

A tsunami of “filthy lucre” is coming in from everywhere. A big casino operator recently pledged $100 million for the Romney campaign and donors on Obama’s side probably will equal that.

Someone Has Some Explaining To Do

Republican lawmakers want to know why a top federal official is on paid leave from his agency while earning a six-figure salary from a Fortune 500 company. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) are demanding answers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. They said Bill McMahon is now working at JP Morgan in the Philippines. But he's still on ATF's payroll as a full-time employee in its office of professional responsibility. The lawmakers said it looks to them as though the agency is trying to let McMahon reach retirement eligibility while on extended leave. McMahon was deputy assistant director for field operations and oversaw parts of Operation Fast and Furious.

260 HS Employees Convicted Of Crimes

Two hundred sixty Homeland Security employees were convicted of crimes in 2011, the inspector general said. In its latest summary, the IG said it conducted 845 investigations and recovered or saved $45 million. Many of the criminal employees were corrupted Customs and Border Protection officers. One pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and received a 110-month sentence. A Border Patrol agent offered to sell secret information to smugglers. He received a 20- month sentence.

The General Services Administration went on a hunt for great ideas and said it came back with $5 million in savings. GSA asked employees to suggest ways to cut costs. Staff voted. Now administrators plan to implement the top five ideas. They will end a $1 million survey and transfer others from paper to Web. They also plan to cut newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Superbug Killed 6 Patients

A superbug spread through the nation's leading research hospital in Bethesda last year killing six patients before it could be stopped. Scientists at the National Institutes of Health scrubbed with bleach, locked down patients and even ripped out plumbing. The deadly bug was finally traced to its source by gene detectives analyzing the germ's DNA. The source was a New York City patient who was admitted for a medical study.
