A Comment/Reply

Imclain.....usually I agree with you. This time I don't. A little background. Maryland towns, counties, etc., don't get any money from traffic tickets. Delaware does.....Maryland doesn't. Not one penny.

That being said Berlin Police department has been short changed by their Mayor and Council for several years now. Berlin and Delmar police departments are among the lowest paid in Maryland so certified officers aren't rushing to work there. When positions become vacant - if they are permitted to fill them - they must hire new recruits and pay their salaries for 6 months while they attend the police academy. Once they gain experience they move on to agencies that pay higher salaries and offer better benefits. Agencies and communities that can least afford it must pay the most.

Unfortunately for Berlin P.D., when officers leave for higher paying positions elsewhere or retire, the Mayor is not allowing the Chief to fill the vacant positions. The lack of patrol is not due to donut shops, radar traps, or seat belt patrols. It is due to unfilled vacancies and/or young, inexperienced officers. It is repeatedly and all too often the case that the law enforcement agencies plead with their mayors and councils for the resources they need but until the crime rates go up, these pleas fall on the deaf ears of councils who are being penny wise but dollar foolish. The recent rash of burglaries in Berlin is a perfect example of what happens when these pleas are ignored. Another example is the recent shooting, burglary, and rape in Delmar. Again, the result of a former Mayor and council who underestimated the needs of a law enforcement agency for too long. Fortunately for the citizens of Delmar, they have a new Mayor and Council who are very well aware of many of the problems faced by their police department and are well on their way to addressing them. Fruitland P.D. picked up their efforts at addressing similar problems when their new Police Chief came aboard some time ago and are further down the road to addressing the needs of their community as well. Chief Downing and the Berlin Police Department need the support of their governing body as well. The safety and security of their community needs to be given priority.

Imclain, law enforcement agencies cannot be lumped together. One cannot compare the police function of small towns such as Berlin, Delmar, and Fruitland, with larger agencies such as Salisbury Poice Department, Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, etc. Larger agencies are insulated from their respective communities and are, therefore, not as affected by the voice of the voters. Salisbury is pre-occupied by the political goings on and Wicomico County is pre-occupied by the wasteful spending by the BOE, etc (not finger pointing, just giving examples of issues that tend to draw the attention of the people). The results of an effective proactive police agency often cannot be accurately measured. But the results of an under paid, under staffed police department become completely apparent AFTER the safety of the community has been compromised - often after it has been neglected for a long time. It then costs much more to gain control and put it back in the hands of the community. Small police departments are much more likely to be aware of the needs of the communities within their town and how to effectively address those needs with the help of those communities. They, at the direction of their administrations, are more likely to remember that their mission is one of "protect and serve" rather than "seek and destroy" as is often the case with larger law enforcement agencies that are insulated from the will of the people by out of touch elected officials (MSP?). Small towns are the perfect model of what America is supposed to be about. Elected officials carrying the voice of the people forward (without the input of special interests) from top to bottom. Most police administrations in small towns remember the oath they took and, to the extent possible, impress upon their staff the importance of that oath as they exercise discretion when enforcing the law within their jurisdiction. It is, after all, the spirit of the law that must be enforced rather than the letter of the law. I'm not saying that members of small law enforcement agencies don't go astray. I know that they can and do. But in a small town, elected officials and their law enforcement administrations can address small problems as they arise, regardless of the nature, provided they maintain an open channel of communication.

Chief Downing is an intelligent, articulate young Chief of Police. He Started in Berlin as a recruit and worked his way up through the ranks. He is a resident of the Town of Berlin and is very familiar with the law enforcement needs of the town and its communities. I know that he has expressed his concerns relating to the salary shortcomings, the lack of benefits, and the lack of adequate staffing to the elected officials. They now shoulder the blame for the resulting spike in crime perpetrated against the citizens. The power to fund the police department to adequately serve the town is in the hands of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Berlin. Let's hope for the sake of the citizens that they will do the right thing.

After Huge Ammo Buy, DHS Purchases Bullet Resistant Booths

The Department of Homeland Security recently stoked concern by contracting a company to provide them with 450 million rounds of hollow point bullets. Now the federal agency is also purchasing bullet-proof checkpoint booths that include ‘stop and go’ lights.

A press release from Shelters Direct brags about how they are providing the DHS with bullet resistant guard booths. Images of the booth from the company’s website suggest the guard shacks will be used to control checkpoints.

“This guard building features a standing seam hip roof, a thru-wall HVAC unit, (2) UL 752 BR Level 3 sliding doors, UL 752 Bullet Resistant Level 3 glass and a Low]E coating. Other noticeable highlights of this prefabricated steel building include metal halide security lighting, decorative window grille frames, and a “Stop & Go” light with controls,” states the press release.

The purpose behind the bullet proof booths is unknown, but the DHS has publicly announced that it plans to increase the number of unannounced checkpoints manned by TSA VIPR teams and other federal agents beyond the 9300 that were set up last year alone.

Obama Orders Press Blackout After US Credit Rating Cut

A shattering report from RIA Novosti’s Washington D.C. bureau appears to prove that the mainstream press in America has become nothing more than a propaganda arm of the Obama regime when during a White House news briefing this past week they were effectively ordered not to report on this past weeks credit rating cut of US government debt.

The Russian International News Agency (RIA Novosti) is a Russian state-owned news agency based in the capital Moscow whose clients include the presidential administration, Russian government, Federation Council, State Duma, leading ministries and government departments, administrations of Russian regions, representatives of Russian and foreign business communities, diplomatic missions, and public organizations.

The White House news briefing referred to in this report occurred this past Thursday (5 April) when Obama regime officials were queried about the latest shock downgrade of the United States credit rating stating that to the American people this critical event should be kept in the category of a “non-story” so as not to confuse and/or shock them.

Most surprisingly, this report continues, the mainstream US news media, including their most important television networks and major newspapers, dutifully followed the directives of the Obama regime and failed to uniformly inform the American people of this momentous event.

US Army Prepares For Riot Control - Photos!

The following photos are from March and February of this year and were taken at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The photos are similar to a collection from May 2010 that depict several National Guard units from different parts of the U.S. quelling protesters in mock communities holding signs that say “Food Now”. A description of one of the events was posted to Facebook by the U.S. Army’s 5th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment:

The Soldiers in a closed formation bang their batons in cadence against their shields as an angry mob approaches.

“When I initially picked up my shield, the thought of the movie 300 was the first thing that came to mind,” said Spc. Kyle Wilhelmi.

Do You Have A Gun In Your House?

When I had my gangrene gallbladder taken out and spent 10 days in the hospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was asked if I had guns in the house. I respond that if I did I would not tell them. So the below has some merit.

FYI, I am passing this along...there are comments from two other people I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kinda slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask. Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they have no idea who does and who d oesn't. My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I, of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack. The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare, and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation.. One of the questions on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My answer was None of your damn business!! So it is out there! It is either an insurance issue or government intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (as they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major iss ue and will ultimately result in lock and load!! Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...

Thanks, from a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer: I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along.

While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:1. Did I feel stressed? 2. Did I feel threatened? 3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone? The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have? Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on reco rd as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner, veteran or not, YOU"VE BEEN WARNED ! If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.

Composing Music on the John - A New Urinal Game

WASHINGTON - There is a new game coming to bar bathrooms that some might find lude. Never-the-less, the musical urinal game "Guitar Pee" is expected to be a hit.

It is somewhat like the popular video game "Guitar Hero" except "Guitar Pee" requires a different type of skill -- good aim.

The game offers targets in the urinal that act as chords. There is even a computer that records men's bathroom tunes. Later on, bathroom maestros can visit the mobile-only site to listen to what they and others have composed.

What Does the Easter Bunny Have To Do With Easter?

There's no story in the Bible about a long-eared, cotton-tailed creature known as the Easter Bunny. Neither is there a passage about young children painting eggs or hunting for baskets overflowing with scrumptious Easter goodies.

And real rabbits certainly don't lay eggs.

Why are these traditions so ingrained in Easter Sunday? And what do they have to do with the resurrection of Jesus?

Well, nothing.

Bunnies, eggs, Easter gifts and fluffy, yellow chicks in gardening hats all stem from pagan roots. These tropes were incorporated into the celebration of Easter separately from the Christian tradition of honoring the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

Well, not quite.

A bizarre friendship has been struck up by a Labrador and a duckling after the tiny waterbird was found abandoned when its mother was killed by a fox.

Dennis the duckling was just a few days old when its mother was mauled by a vixen.

Somehow Dennis survived the attack and would have perished had it not been found next to a brook by Jeremy Goldsmith while out with his dog Fred.

Surprisingly, the Labrador took a shine to the duckling and began to clean it with its tongue. Since then, their unlikely friendship has blossomed with Fred even allowing Dennis to sit on his head.

1.What is Passover and is it the same as Pesach?

Navy Pilots Ejected from Jet Flying 170 MPH

Yesterday, just minutes after an F/A-18D jet took off from the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virgina Beach, Va., the two pilots on board realized their aircraft engine had failed catastrophically. Immediately, they turned back toward the airfield, dumping jet fuel in order to reduce the aircraft's weight, a technique that could have helped them reach the runway just two miles away.

But it wasn't enough. They had no choice but to eject from the jet, which was traveling at 170 miles per hour. Moments later, the jet crashed into an apartment complex (photo below). Although the pilots and several residents were injured, reports so far indicate that no one was killed.

RT’s apology To Taser International - The Killer Of 500 Americans, According To Amnesty International

In regards to our recent report on Kenneth Chamberlain, a 68-year-old retired US Marine killed by police officers in his home, RT would like to extend our apologies to Taser International and offer clarification to our readers.

In our article published April 5, “NY cops break into Marine vet's home and Taser him to death,” RT was imprecise in our wording of the story’s headline and would like to formally offer our apologies to Taser, the manufacturer of the electroshock guns used by law enforcement across the country and, unfortunately, also on the late Mr. Chamberlain. We have appropriately retitled our original article.

In addition to saying we are sorry to Taser, who we cannot blame directly in the death of the vet, we would like to clarify that, although the cause of death has not been made available to us, it was incorrect on our part to summarize the story as we did in our original headline. We cannot, with certainty, say that the elderly retired correctional officer that suffered from a heart condition died from injuries suffered as police officers attacked him with a Taser gun. While Mr. Chamberlain did pass away shortly after law enforcement used Taser guns on him, those same officers also fired “nonlethal” beanbag projectiles from a shotgun and used live ammunition on the man before he was transported to an area hospital only to die in front of his family.

Church Ladies and Their Big, Bold Hats: A Fading Tradition

Elaine Saunders stepped into Bachrach’s Millinery in Northwest Washington one late winter day in 1953, and there it was, calling her name: a pale fuchsia straw hat with an upturned brim and matching rosebuds circling the crown.

“It’s a Mr. John,” Saunders, now 77, recalls without explanation, certain the designer’s name alone says this was no ordinary hat.

She paid $5 to put it on layaway and made regular installments until she’d covered the $35 cost. When she finally clutched the gold braided handle of the pink floral hatbox and strutted out of the shop, she knew that this final touch to her pale pink Easter suit would place her among the best-dressed young ladies at Zion Baptist Church. And that would be no small feat, since proper church ladies back then all wore hats — their finest, of course, on Easter.

House Approves Subsidy For Ocean Downs

Bill would provide $1.2 million to track owned by Rickman

Maryland's House of Delegates narrowly approved a bill Saturday that would provide $1.2 million to the owner of a racetrack and casino on the Eastern Shore, setting aside objections from some lawmakers who called it a giveaway to the "one percent."

The bill would divert revenue earmarked for enhancing racing purses to provide operating assistance for the Ocean Downs Race Track, so long as the track has 40 live racing days. It is owned by William Rickman, a politically connected developer.

Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George's County would qualify for money only if it rehired about 300 workers who have been let go — a prospect lawmakers said was unlikely.
