Woman Pleads Guilty In Butt Implants Case

Kimberly Smedley of Atlanta pled guilty today for illegally injecting silicone into the buttocks of her customers.

Smedley is not a doctor, and the silicone in question wasn’t the kind used by real doctors in real hospital rooms, officials said.

Instead, she was using 100-centistoke-dimethyl silxane fluid, which is intended for metal or plastic lubrication, as an additive for paint, or a furniture or car polish.

Smedley pleaded guilty to conspiring to introduce and deliver into interstate commerce an adulterated and misbranded device. She faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Study: Most Of Early-Stage Cancer Research Wrong

Two thought provoking and disturbing studies out Wednesday raise major questions about conduct of the “War on Cancer.” One examines the quality of basic research and the other concludes that half of current cancer deaths could be prevented.

Jensen Beach Boy, 7, Saves Sister in Swimming Pool Mishap

JENSEN BEACH — Brady Banasiak, 7, was the hero Saturday when a birthday party for one of his aunts almost turned tragic.

The blond-haired, blue-eyed Brady saved his 2 1/2-year old sister, Brooke, from drowning after the toddler fell in the pool at the family's home in the 500 block of Ember Way in The Pines subdivision.

"It was the worst sight ever," dad Rob Banasiak said of his daughter's fall.

The family was having a 40th birthday party for one of mom Julie's sisters.

Stockton Gets Ratings Cut by Moody’s as Bankruptcy Option Looms

Stockton (3654MF), the California city on the brink of bankruptcy, had its pension-obligation and lease- revenue bond ratings cut by Moody’s Investors Service on about $341 million in debt.

Moody’s lowered the city’s 2007 pension-obligation bonds to B3 from B1 and reduced the 2006 lease-revenue bonds to Caa1 from B2, the New York-based rating company said today in a statement. The ratings are six and seven levels below investment grade, respectively.

The action “reflects the growing likelihood of default and the potential for less than 100 percent recovery for bondholders as the city continues down the path of mediation and potential bankruptcy,” Moody’s said in the statement.

The Stockton City Council on Feb. 28 agreed to invoke a new California law that requires cities to negotiate with creditors before seeking bankruptcy. Stockton, an agricultural center about 80 miles (130 kilometers) east of San Francisco, was forced down that path because of soaring retiree costs, accounting blunders and the weight of the recession, City Manager Bob Deis has said.

IRS Seeks 4,000 Agents, $303 Million for Obamacare

The Internal Revenue Service wants to add about 4,000 agents to hunt down tax cheats and still plans to spend $303 million building a system to oversee Obamacare even though its future looks bleak in the U.S. Supreme Court.

A new Government Accountability Office review of the IRS 2012 tax return season and the taxman’s fiscal 2013 budget request also found that the agency’s customer service rating has slipped and 5.5 million returns were delayed a week because of a computer programming glitch.

The news isn’t all bad though. A March 20 GAO performance audit found that the agency has seen a steady increase in e-filing and had processed 68 million returns so far, a 3 percent bump. What’s more, IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman said that the American Customer Satisfaction Index for his team has jumped to 73 percent and he added that for every $1 spent on enforcement, the agency collects a return of $4.30.

Rethinking America's Supreme Judicial Dictatorship

Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Jeffersonians warned that if the day ever arrived when the central government became the final judge of its own powers, Americans would then live under a tyranny. The government, they believed, would inevitably proclaim that there are in fact no limits to its powers. That day came in 1865 when citizen control over the federal government ended along with the rights of nullification and secession. Not surprisingly, a warmongering, imperialistic megalomaniac like Woodrow Wilson would then celebrate this fact several decades later, as the above quotation attests.

The so-called system of checks and balances is a farce and a fraud; the reality is that all three branches of the federal government work together to conspire against the taxpayers for the benefit of the state and all of its appendages. As Judge Andrew Napalitano wrote in his book, The Constitution in Exile, the Supreme Court failed to rule a single federal law unconstitutional from 1937 to 1995. The Court is essentially a political rubber stamp operation with all of its black-robed ceremony being nothing more than part of the circus that is employed to dupe the public into acquiescing in its dictates.

Entertain Me, Please.....

Today I was told the Daily Times did a story about Mike Dunn filing ethics charges against certain City Council members. A friend confirmed their story was on page 2. HOWEVER, I looked just about everywhere on line and there's nothing there.

So, that being said, I'd love to know just why they're keeping it from the on line edition. Is it because their print edition is so minute any more that the only real audience they have left is on line? That would be my guess, allow me to explain.

You see, the ethics board kindly asked ALL involved to please hold off from saying anything to the public until AFTER they came through with their formal letter. Of course, this is exactly what I mean when I stated earlier today that the Daily Times and WBOC will simply manufacture news. They had no formal findings and had been asked to respectfully hold off.

Being that the Daily Times has fallen so far behind Salisbury News, they went ahead and printed an article anyway, a one sided article at that.

Mike Dunn, (former Council president) simply had his ass handed to him by the Board, yet the Daily Times put a spin on their findings. I was told Dunn called some liars and corrupt. Nothing like the good old Mike Dunn sense of humor, eh?

You see Folks, while we do not have the formal letter I can tell you that the ethics board ruled in favor of the Council Members as they did not violate anything.

The Daily Times has in fact hit rock bottom. They published a story without facts and simply QUOTED Mike Dunn, once again.

You made the right move cancelling your subscriptions to that wanna be newspaper folks. Salisbury News will deliver the ethics boards formal findings in the next few days once it becomes available.

My hat is tipped to the City Attorney and City Council for refusing to participate AND respecting the ethics boards wishes.

I'll close with this Folks. If you haven't figured it out yet, the Daily Times has been publishing BS stories lately, even planting a reporter, (who gets everything wrong) at all work sessions and council meetings to spew whatever Mayor Ireton and Laura Mitchell want published. They are quoting those two like there's no tomorrow and since I do attend many of these meetings I can tell you that once the Mayor spits out his hate, that reporter actually leaves the council chambers and sits in the hall with her laptop and starts putting together her story.

Mind you, this is usually within 30 minutes of the meeting getting started and its very clear she is there for only one purpose, to get the hate spread immediately and forget anything else that goes on. The Daily Times desperately wants to get rid of those council members they dislike and they are playing a political game many of us old Bloggers were targeted for many years ago. Funny how Greg Bassett goes on radio and TV spouting how they are held to a higher standard. That guy is so full of sh!t it isn't funny.

The US government shut down a series of court cases arising from a multimillion pound business dispute in order to conceal evidence of a damning intelligence failure shortly before the 9/11 attacks, MPs were told.

Moreover, the UK government is now seeking similar powers that could be used to prevent evidence of illegal acts and embarrassing failures from emerging in court, David Davis, the former shadow home secretary, told the Commons.

The Justice and Security green paper being put forward by Ken Clarke's justice ministry has already faced widespread criticism from civil rights groups, media representatives and lawyers working within the secret tribunal system that hears terrorism-related immigration cases.

Davis demanded to know how its proposals could be prevented from being used to cover up crimes and errors. "In light of previous revelations about the UK government's complicity in torture and rendition of detainees to locations like of Libya, Afghanistan, or illegally into American hands … how will the Government prevent the Justice and Security green paper proposals being misused in a similar way to cover up illegal acts and embarrassments rather than protect national security?"

Davis said that in 1998 the FBI seized upon an opportunity to eavesdrop on every landline and telephone call into and out of Afghanistan in a bid to build intelligence on the Taliban. The Bureau discovered that the Taliban regime had awarded a major telephone network contract to a joint US-UK venture, run by an American entrepreneur, Ehsanollah Bayat and two British businessmen, Stuart Bentham and Lord Michael Cecil.

"The plan was simple" Davis said. "Because the Taliban wanted American equipment for their new phone network, this would allow the FBI and NSA, the National Security Agency, to build extra circuits into all the equipment before it was flown out to Afghanistan for use. Once installed, these extra circuits would allow the FBI and NSA to record or listen live to every single landline and mobile phone call in Afghanistan. The FBI would know the time the call was made and its duration. They would know the caller's name, the number dialled, and even the caller's PIN."

Playing The Race Card Again

“White Hispanic.” That’s how the New York Times, Reuters and other media outlets have opted to describe George Zimmerman, a man who would simply be Hispanic if he hadn’t shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The term, rarely if ever used before this tragedy, is necessary in telling the Martin story in a more comfortable way.

What’s the comfortable way? It’s the way the blame for Martin’s death belongs squarely at the feet of “the system.” And “the system” is a white thing, don’t you know.

For instance, in a remarkably uncritical interview with the Los Angeles Times, the Rev. Jesse Jackson explained that with the election of President Obama, “there was this feeling that we were kind of beyond racism.” He continued: “That’s not true. His victory has triggered tremendous backlash.” Indeed, “Blacks are under attack.”

Jackson apparently includes in this racist Obama “backlash” record home foreclosures for African Americans and black unemployment. It would have been nice if the L.A. Times had asked Jackson to work a little harder to connect those dots.

Jackson also laments that “targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business” in America.

Rush: Fleeing Advertisers Getting 'Creamed'

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Radio giant Rush Limbaugh says advertisers who fled his show after he called a Georgetown graduate student a “slut” are getting “creamed” financially.

“The people who have been hurt on this program are the advertisers who left! They’ve been creamed,” Limbaugh said this afternoon.

“The advertisers who’ve really been hurt are the ones who’ve abandoned here. I just assume everybody understood that. Let me tell you: We have 22 million people here [in our listening audience] who have stopped patronizing these people … . It’s major in many instances, the harm that has been inflicted.”

Among the first major advertisers to drop Limbaugh’s show were ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, mattress retailers Sleep Train and Sleep Number, software maker Citrix Systems, data-backup provider Carbonite and online legal-document company LegalZoom.

He didn’t provide any specific details to quantify how much the fleeing advertisers had been injured, explaining he was “uncomfortable” with the notion of advertising being harmed.

Job Killers

Politicians say they “create jobs.” In fact, only the private sector generates the information needed to create real, productive jobs.

Since this current post-recession job recovery is the slowest in 80 years, you’d think that even know-it-all politicians would want to sweep away the labyrinth of government regulations that hinders job creation. Successful job creators like Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Staples founder Tom Stemberg tell me there are so many new rules and taxes today that it would be difficult, if not impossible, for them to create the thousands of jobs they once made.

The feds now have 160,000 pages of rules. Does anyone read all that? I doubt it. (Members of Congress don’t read the bills they vote on.) Do the rules make life safer? No. A few new rules are useful, but most are not. Their sheer volume makes us less safe and less free.

In fact, the thick rulebooks help cheaters by giving them an indecipherable screen to hide behind. They also mislead consumers by giving them the illusion of protection. “I don’t need to worry because regulation protects me.” It’s why some sophisticated people gave all their savings to Bernie Madoff.

A false sense of security is worse than none at all.

A woman went from fast food to life in the fast lane -- and she says its all McDonald’s fault.

Shelley Lynn is claiming that the fast food giant should have protected her against her ex-husband and former boss Keith Handley, who hired her to work the counter twenty years ago, according to Courtroom News.

Lynn, who is suing Handley, his restaurant company Ivernia and McDonald’s in California Central District Court, said that she was at the mercy of a company that provided no protections for female employees against predatory bosses.

The trouble began in 1982 when Handley hired her to work at the counter in Arroyo Grande, California. The two began dating in 1985, but things got rocky when she lost her job.

Woman Rushed to Cincinnati Hospital, Possible Botched Abortion

A woman was rushed to a local hospital in the Cincinnati suburb of Sharonville, Ohio after appearing to have suffered from a botched abortion at the facility run by the abortion practitioner credited with promoting partial-birth abortions.

Dr. Steven Brinn, a pediatrician whose offices are next door to the Women’s Med Center abortion facility, commented on the incident.

“Today, March 28, paramedics with ambulance and police were called to Haskell’s Abortion Clinic in Sharonville and this was witnessed by many,” Brinn said. “”A young woman was seen being carried out on a stretcher by paramedics who were bagging the woman (giving life support). It is assumed that the woman suffered some kind of complication in the clinic while she was there for treatment. Police were also at the scene and closed down the clinic for a time.”

SUSPECT UNDER ARREST AFTER FATAL SHOOTING IN ALLEGANY CO.

(OLDTOWN, MD) – One man is dead and a suspect is under arrest after a fatal shooting in Allegany County last night that apparently occurred during an assault that resulted from an ongoing property dispute between two families.

The victim is identified as Dennis E. Liller, 43, of the 23000-block of Pack Horse Trail, Oldtown, Md. Liller sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was pronounced dead shortly before 8:00 p.m. yesterday at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

The accused is identified as Alexander E. Malaska, 69, of the 23000-block of Pack Horse Trail, Oldtown, Md. After consultation with the Allegany County State’s Attorney, who responded to the scene, Malaska has been charged this morning with one count of manslaughter. He is currently incarcerated in the Allegany County Detention Center on $300,000 bond.

Police were called to the 23000-block of Pack Horse Trail, Oldtown, Md., shortly after 6:30 p.m. yesterday for a report of a shooting. Police found the wounded victim, who was treated by ambulance personnel and later flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

An investigation was initiated by the Combined County Criminal Investigation unit. The investigation was transferred to the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and members of C3I continued to assist, as did troopers from the Cumberland Barrack.

The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday, Maryland Natural Resources Police and State Police had been dispatched to the 23000-block of Pack Horse Trail for a dispute over land. The dispute involved two adjacent properties and had been ongoing since September 2011. In that incident, Alexander Malaska and Leroy Robertson were unsuccessful in resolving the issue of whose property three trees were on between the two residences.

Alexander Malaska’s son, Michael, allegedly cut the trees down. The Robertson’s daughter, Kelly Spangler, applied for criminal charges against Michael Malaska that had been served in October 2011 and are scheduled for court next month.

Yesterday at about 5:30 p.m., Michael Malaska found “no trespassing” signs posted on the remaining tree stumps. According to the investigation, he removed the signs and walked to the Robertson home with the signs. A verbal dispute occurred and police were called.

Natural Resources Police officers arrived before state troopers and made contact with members of both families. The situation was thought to have been resolved and officers left the scene.

The investigation indicates Kelly Spangler was with Dennis Liller when she was notified of the incident by a family member. She and Liller drove past the Malaska home and confronted Mike Malaska outside his home.

Witnesses told investigators Dennis Liller and Mike Malaska became involved in a heated argument while standing face to face. Investigators were told Mike Malaska bumped Liller and Liller punched Malaska in the face and a fight ensued.

Investigators were told someone went into the Malaska home and notified Alexander Malaska of the ongoing fight. Witnesses told investigators Alexander Malaska came outside with a rifle and fired as the fight continued. One shot struck Liller.

The investigation is continuing.

Pavement and Rehabilitation Projects in Northern Sussex and Southern Kent Counties Will Require Daytime & Nighttime Lane Restrictions

Beginning Monday, April 2

Dover -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that a pavement and rehabilitation project will begin on Monday, April 2. This project will consist of milling, hot-mix patching, paving, and curb ramp improvements to meet compliance regulations with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). No work is scheduled to occur on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The contractor will resume work on Monday, April 9.

The following roads will have intermittent lane closures:

Route 13 from Adams Road to Kent County Line
Route 13 from Sussex County Line to Tower Hill Road

Northbound lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Southbound lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

A construction date with daytime lane restrictions will be announced later for the following roadways:

Market Street from Delaware Avenue to Route 13
Route 13 southbound from Route 404 to Cannon Road
Greenwood Road from Route 13 to First Street

George & Lynch of Dover, Delaware is the contractor for this $5.2 million project. The project is expected to be completed by mid-September, pending weather.

Access to all businesses and residences within the project limit will be maintained throughout the duration of this contract.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and expect delays.

Spring Holidays: Schedule For Students And Staff

All Wicomico students will be off April 2-9 for the spring holidays. Schools will close at regular time on Friday, March 30, and reopen at the regular time on Tuesday, April 10.

Obama Budget Defeated 414-0

President Obama's budget was defeated 414-0 in the House late Wednesday, in a vote Republicans arranged to try to embarrass him and shelve his plan for the rest of the year.

The vote came as the House worked its way through its own fiscal year 2013 budget proposal, written by Budget Committee Chairman Paul D. Ryan. Republicans wrote an amendment that contained Mr. Obama's budget and offered it on the floor, daring Democrats to back the plan, which calls for major tax increases and yet still adds trillions of dollars to the deficit over the next decade.

"It’s not a charade. It’s not a gimmick — unless what the president sent us is the same," said Rep. Mick Mulvaney, a freshman Republican from South Carolina who sponsored Mr. Obama's proposal for purposes of the debate. "I would encourage the Democrats to embrace this landmark Democrat document and support it. Personally, I will be voting against it."

White House Reneges on Part of $150M Pledge to Metro

Local leaders are lashing out at the White House after President Barack Obama went back on a deal to fund Metro, which is in critical need of important updates and repairs.

The federal government committed in 2010 to giving Metro $150 million per year in exchange for the transit agency's matching the federal funds and adding two new positions for federal appointees on the Metro Board of Directors.

The president's most recent budget includes a 10-percent reduction in those funds.

Parents Of Murdered British Students Criticise Barack Obama

The parents of two British students murdered in Florida have criticised President Barack Obama for his lack of compassion over their son's deaths.

His failure to respond to three letters sent to the White House was because there was no "political value" and not worthy of a few minutes of his time.

They spoke out as teenager Shawn Tyson began a life sentence after being found guilty of the murder of James Cooper and James Kouzaris last April.

The 17 year old, who shot the men as they begged for their lives, will die in prison.

His conviction of first degree murder carries an mandatory life sentence without the chance of parole.

The powerfully built teen even looked bored as emotional DVD presentations about the dead men prepared by their grieving parents were shown in court.

Republicans Vote to Subpoena Oil Moratorium Documents

House Republicans voted Wednesday to authorize congressional subpoenas demanding that the Obama administration turn over documents it has refused to provide in two investigations, including one looking at the post-Gulf of Mexico drilling moratorium.

The 23-17 vote in the Natural Resources Committee escalated yet another showdown between the administration and House Republicans, who have flexed their investigative powers on everything ranging from immigration to gunrunning to land use.

In the moratorium case, the committee is trying to figure out whether politics were behind edits the Interior Department made to its six-month Gulf drilling ban report, which suggested its own panel of experts agreed with the moratorium, even though the engineers actually opposed that decision.

The Salisbury City Council reminds the public that there are still opportunities to participate in public forums on the election redistricting effort the City is undertaking for its local elections, as a result of the changes in city population reported by the 2010 Census. The Mayor hosted one such meeting in February, and the Council has held three so far in March.

Welcome To The United States Of Orwell, Part 3: We Had To Destroy Democracy In Order To Save It

Here is what I consider to be the dominant narrative of what I call the National Security State. The National Security State is comprised of the Pentagon, the Armed Forces, the CIA, NSA, Homeland Security, the corporate military-industrial complex that profits from it and the "black" budgets, agencies and operations that are hidden from the citizenry in the name of "national security."

Here's the narrative: we were surprised by a treacherous, shadowy, sinister enemy and we have to set aside the niceties of democracy and civil liberties to combat this new and terrible foe. This was the narrative after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, and it set in motion a total-global-war mobilization of the entire American society and economy.

Civil liberties? Gone, baby: Executive Order 9066 [12] sent 120,000 Americans to concentration camps hastily erected in various wastelands. It was for their own good, and for the good of the war effort, of course; but no questions or legal niceties were allowed. Executive Orders from the Commander in Chief (the President) are like that.

The entire economy and populace were commandeered for the war effort. Since the nation was still in the grip of a decade-long Depression, then borrowing a couple trillion dollars into existance and mobilizing the populace for global war was actually a welcome development to most people.

Since this was a war for national survival and democracy, anything that hindered the war effort (except making a profit, of course) was deemed unpatriotic. The propaganda machine duly cranked out films demonizing our enemies, burying defeats and glorifying victories.

Donnie and Marie Uncontrollable.....

Gee golly willikers, everybody, that kooky brother-sister duo is at it again. Marie Osmond and Donny Osmond, both in their 50s, are apparently doing shows aboard four-night cruises to the Bahamas. What they do or how, exactly, they entertain remains to be seen, but something unusual happened during last week's show and the whole thing was caught on camera.

And yes, I'm just as shocked as you are that someone at a Donny and Marie show on a cruise ship had the technological know-how to not only film the incident, but upload it to the Internet. Very surprising.

Anyway, the incident caught on film and saved to the Web forever is a video of Marie Osmond peeing her pants on stage. You're welcome.

We have no idea what made Donny and Marie laugh that hard, but the two nutsos are just barrelled over. Then Marie wets herself. It's all very exciting.

And by "exciting" I mean "cloyingly wholesome" in the best way possible. Like, they're probably laughing their asses off about some G-rated joke, like it's the funniest thing they've ever heard, and then Marie's incontinence takes center stage. She pretends she has to wipe her pee up with a rag, and then exclaims, "Oh ship!" Instead of, you know, "Oh sh##." Hilare! And then Donny's all, "We promised you an experience, you got it!" Hardee har har!

Obama's Arrogance And Rampant Hypocrisy!

I have been watching the media circus concerning the very disturbing incident that occurred in Sanford, Florida recently. It has been impossible to stay away from, because the shooting of the young man, Trayvon Martin, has become the headline story on virtually every single media outlet. I have hesitated to write about this subject, and will not comment on the case itself, but it has been sensationalized almost beyond imagination. This could not have happened without the mainstream media, and its drive to build a national story at any cost.

My questions would not concentrate on any racial implications because that should be irrelevant, and because the untimely death of anyone, regardless of color, is always a tragedy. So why is almost all the coverage based on white versus black or black versus white?

I would ask, why should the color of one’s skin matter, and why should any greater importance be placed on such a shallow and obvious race-related conclusion? Aren’t we all the same in that we are all human beings? Aren’t we all born with the same natural rights? Don’t we all live on this earth together? Do any of us have any say as to where we are born, or what color we are? Do any of us deserve more favorable consideration simply due the consequences of our birth and heritage? Would race be such a big issue without the agitators, the politicians, and the media’s continuous stirring of the pot of hatred of one group over another? In the scheme of things, is one man’s life worth more than another man’s life, simply due to the color of his skin? Only the truth should matter, except for those with an agenda, and something to gain from the pain of others.

What is really happening here? Is this story real or is it staged? What happened is real, but those who wish to gain something from the death of this young man have staged most of the rest. Those I speak of are not interested in finding out the truth, and they are not interested in the deceased or his family, they are only interested in themselves and in gaining an audience.

No New Coal Plants Under Draft EPA Rules

The Environmental Protection Agency Tuesday proposed greenhouse-gas regulations that effectively would prohibit the construction of new coal-fired power plants.

The rules, released in draft form and expected to be finalized later this year, would require new coal facilities to use expensive carbon-capture technology, which is still being developed and is not yet financially viable.

The EPA is not limiting emissions from existing coal plants, which provide about 45 percent of the nation’s electricity, or those expected to break ground within the next 12 months.

Despite those exemptions, some energy analysts are warning that the agency’s actions could result in higher electricity rates in coming years. Many in the industry also see the proposal as another example of what they say is the Obama administration’s unrelenting war on fossil fuels, contrary to the president’s frequent claims to have an “all-of-the-above” energy strategy.

The first is corruption. America is rotten with it, but American corruption is distinct from corruption in, say, Guatemala or Thailand, being less visible and better organized.

Several major differences exist between the usual corruption in the Third World and that in America. In most of the Third World, corruption exists from top to bottom. Everyone and everything is for sale. Bribery amounts to an economic system, like capitalism or socialism. By contrast, in the United States, graft flourishes mostly at the level of government and commerce. You don’t (I think) slip an admissions official at Harvard twenty grand to accept your shiftless and dull-witted slug of a misbegotten offspring. Nor do you pay a local judge to drop dope charges against your teenager. And in the Guatemalas and Egypts of the planet, corruption tends to be personal. Little Jenny was next: "I sold magazines" she said, "I made $45 and I

Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box

Toothbrushes" said Little Johnny.
"Toothbrushes" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough
tooth brushes to make that much money?"
"I found the busiest corner in town" said Little Johnny, "I set up a
Dip & Chip stand, I gave everybody who walked by a free sample."
They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog crap!"

Chesapeake Bay Grasses Down in 2011; Rain, Heat Blamed

Underwater grasses in the Chesapeake Bay declined more than 20 percent last year, hurt by summer heat and heavy rains and snow melt that sent tons of mud and debris into the bay, the Chesapeake Bay Program said Wednesday.

The losses mean levels of the grasses that provide food and homes for fish, birds and other species have dropped to their lowest point since 2006. Scientists said grasses are now at historically low levels, but the news was tempered by growth found in some parts of the bay.

The underwater grasses are important to the health of the Chesapeake because in addition to providing habitat for crabs and striped bass, they also improve water clarity by trapping sediment, add oxygen to bay water, provide food for waterfowl and help prevent shoreline erosion.

Heavy rains from back-to-back storms that caused widespread flooding throughout the Northeast last fall sent tons of garbage and sediment into the bay. That raised concerns about damage to underwater grasses in the upper bay, but the Chesapeake Bay Program said last year that aerial photos taken in November showed the damage was not as bad as feared.

Don't Bet The House: Bill To Expand Gambling Could Fold

The House is making plans to change a controversial slots bill passed by the Senate on Tuesday.

The measure allows a sixth casino to be located in Prince George's County. As a sweetener, the bill lets current slots operators keep more revenue, and it opens the door to table games.

WBAL-TV 11 News reporter David Collins said it appears that a majority in the House and Senate approve of the table games, but what some members of the House find troubling is adding a sixth gambling location before the other five approved locations are fully operational.

Some delegates said the odds on expanding gaming and adding a sixth gambling location to be located in Prince George's County are iffy.

No Study Of Third Bay Bridge

The Maryland Senate Tuesday rejected a bill that would force the state to perform an environmental impact study on building a third Chesapeake Bay bridge span. The vote on the bill was 20-27.

The bill was backed by all three of the senators from the Eastern Shore.

“This bill is vital,” said Sen. Jim Mathias, the Lower Shore Democrat who had been mayor of Ocean City.

“I’m voting for this ‘cause it’s going to eventually settle the argument,” said Sen. John Astle, D-Anne Arundel, one of the sponsors of the bill. Not building a third span would be one of the options in the environmental impact study.

Opponents said the Maryland Transportation Authority, which runs the current bridges, has not requested the environmental impact study and was not equipped to perform it. Others objected to the estimated $30 million cost of the study over the next five to seven years.

“It is tied to a dedicated source of revenue,” the tolls on the bridges and tunnels, said Senate Minority Leader E.J. Pipkin, lead sponsor of the bill. He said there was more available funding for the bridge study than there was to study construction of the Purple Line in suburban Washington and the Red Line in Baltimore.

HUD And VA Are Joining Forces To Put 10,000 Homeless Veterans Into Permanent Housing

HUD will provide nearly $73 million to public housing agencies in all 50 states plus D.C. VA will supply case management and other services to help veterans get into the housing units. The program is known as HUD-VA Supportive Housing. HUD officials say another round of funding will come this summer. The Obama administration has pledged to end homelessness among veterans.

FTC Wins Quarter Of A Million Settlement

The Federal Trade Commission has won a quarter million dollar settlement against an online game operator. FTC says the operator took personal information from 179,000 children. In doing so, Rock You violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule. The company also had poor cybersecurity practices, according to the FTC. It exposed passwords and other personal information of 32 million users to hackers. Under the settlement, RockYou must revise its security and privacy policies.

White House Says Fill Jobs With Veterans

If agencies have job openings, they should fill them with veterans. That's the message the White House is sending agency heads in a new memo. Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry tells deputy secretaries that agencies should meet their 2012 goals, despite budget cuts or hiring slowdowns. He directs them to examine their strategies for recruiting veterans and helping them transition to civilian life. Berry asks the leaders to personally monitor their agencies' veterans employments efforts. President Obama has made hiring veterans a key goal of his administration. Twelve percent of recent vets are unemployed.

Suicide A Major Issue For Enlisted members

Top-ranking military leaders say they need to do more to "significantly reduce" suicides among enlisted members. At a Washington conference, senior enlisted leaders said the services weren't doing enough to address troops' personal, financial and legal problems. They say counseling services for enlisted members lags behind that offered to new officers. Recent reports indicate the suicide rate among soldiers is increasing. The Army found that suicides in its service rose 80 percent between 2004 and 2008.

Feds Refuse to Release Obama Draft Docs to Sheriff Joe

The Selective Service System has declined Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s request to see the original copy of Barack Obama’s Selective Service registration form.

Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse investigating Obama’s eligibility announced at a March 1 press conference that it believes there is probable cause that the registration is fraudulent.

A three-sentence March 22 letter written on behalf of Selective Service Director Lawrence G. Romo, however, dismissed the request.

“This Agency has no evidence that President Obama’s 1980 registration is not authentic,” wrote Richard S. Flahavan, associate director of public & intergovernmental affairs

Apparently refusing to take seriously Arpaio’s investigation, Flahavan referred the sheriff to the FBI.

What Does The New Zimmerman Video Show?

Is this a smoking gun that there was no fight, that Zimmerman, and a witness, lied about a scuffle?

(ABC News) The surveillance video, which was obtained exclusively by ABC News, shows Zimmerman arriving in a police cruiser. As he exits the car, his hands are cuffed behind his back. Zimmerman is frisked and then led down a series of hallways, still cuffed.
Zimmerman, 28, is wearing a red and black fleece and his face and head are cleanly shaven. He appears well built, hardly the portly young man depicted in a 2005 mug shot that until a two days ago was the single image the media had of Zimmerman.

The initial police report noted that Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and nose, and after medical attention it was decided that he was in good enough condition to travel in a police cruiser to the Sanford, Fla., police station for questioning. His lawyer later insisted that Zimmerman’s nose had been broken in his scuffle with 17-year-old Martin.

Look, we'll not manufacture news if its not out there. All too often I'll watch WBOC and that's exactly what they tend to do, just make something up and call it news.

If you're looking for nothing but local content, go, well, I could say WBOC or the Daily Times BUT GUESS WHAT, they're not local either. Hmmmm, go figure.

As for the Zimmerman news out of Florida, you may be sick of it but look at the comments. People ARE interested in BOTH sides of that story and we've provided a place where people, (locally) can openly discuss it.

You can go out and buy a digital camera, a video camera, a vehicle to get you to and from, pay for all the gas, insurance, tolls (when necessary), cell phone, Internet access, laptop, then find all the time necessary to attend ribbon cuttings, council meetings, interview candidates, find the time to publish articles and even look around for articles you may not have had the time to participate in and link to those other Websites, am I making my point yet?

The time it takes to do what we do is something some of you will never understand. This is why I will never have to worry about anyone else, (unless they have a LOT of time and money on their hands) doing what we do. Don't forget to go out and get advertisers and pick and choose what charities you'll be making donations to.

We do our very best to deliver you the news WE feel MOST of you would be interested in. By the signs of our daily traffic I'd say we're not only doing a great job, I can guarantee you we are second to none, even if someone else says they're Delmarva's news leader, its a load of crap.

When more local news comes about we'll be right on top of it. In the mean time, go somewhere else if you want stuff that's made up and full of lies.

The database seems to bring together information about supporters gathered from all branches of the campaign — everything from an individual's donation records to volunteer activity to online interactions with the campaign — aimed at allowing the campaign to personalize every interaction with potential supporters.

Human Rights Group Accuses U.S. of Abuses Along Mexico Border

(Reuters) - U.S. policing along the Mexico border discriminates against Hispanics and Native Americans and contributes to the deaths of illegal immigrants, according to a study by the human rights group Amnesty International USA.

The report, titled "In Hostile Terrain: Human Rights Violations in Immigration Enforcement in the U.S. Southwest," identifies what it says are systemic failures of federal, state and local authorities to enforce immigration laws without discrimination.

"Communities living along the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly Latinos, individuals perceived to be of Latino origin and indigenous communities, are disproportionately affected by a range of immigration-control measures, resulting in a pattern of human rights violations," the study said.

The U.S. government has tightened security along the nearly 2,000-mile border with Mexico in recent years, adding additional fencing, surveillance technologies and Border Patrol agents. The federal government also has partnered with some state and local police forces to give officers immigration-enforcement powers.

Exxon Mobil’s Tax Rate Drops To 13 Percent, After Making 35 Percent More Profits On Rising Gas Prices In 2011

Exxon Mobil, the most profitable of the big five oil companies, made $41.1 billion in profits last year. Although Exxon made 35 percent more profits since 2010, its estimated effective tax rate actually dropped. Citizens for Tax Justice reported Exxon paid only 17.6 percent taxes in 2010, lower than the average American, and a Reuters analysis using the same criteria estimates that Exxon will pay only 13 percent in effective taxes for 2011. Exxon paid zero taxes to the federal government in 2009.

Reuters compares the 45 percent tax rate Exxon claims it pays to the effective rate estimated by Citizens for Tax Justice — a rate that’s even lower than Mitt Romney’s tax rate. Chevron, which made $26.9 billion profit in 2011, paid 19 percent:

Citizens for Tax Justice considers U.S. profits and U.S. taxes paid only. By that measure, Exxon Mobil paid 13 percent of its U.S. income in taxes after deductions and benefits in 2011, according to a Reuters calculation of securities filings.

It is a far cry from the 35 percent top corporate tax rate.

Still, the three-year average for telecom companies is 8 percent; for information technology services companies, it is 2.5 percent, according to CTJ.

Trayvon Inc: US Teen's Case Turns Into Brand

The case of an unarmed black teenager killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer is quickly turning into an Internet-fueled brand.

Websites are hawking key chains bearing Trayvon Martin's likeness. His parents have bought two trademarks, saying they hope to raise money to help other families struck by tragedy. Trayvon clothes, bumper stickers, buttons and posters are up for grabs on eBay.

Vendors selling Martin T-shirts and hoodies have become fixtures at rallies in Sanford, the central Florida town where Martin was shot last month. At one Sanford rally this week, a man had a variety of T-shirts laid out on the ground as marchers went by, yelling out, "I've got every size!"

The Martin shooting by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmernan, who says he shot the 17-year-old Miami teen in self-defense, has inflamed racial tensions across the country, brought out thousands for rallies, prompted a civil rights probe and a personal reference to the case by President Obama.

Affording Health Care And Education On The Minimum Wage

The current value of the federal minimum wage — $7.25 per hour — is often compared to the cost of living, the average wage in the economy, or the productivity of the average worker. By all of these benchmarks, the current federal minimum is well below its historical levels.

But the current minimum wage looks even worse when compared with two kinds of purchases strongly associated with a middle-class standard of living or the ability to move up to the middle class: health insurance and a college degree.

The table below shows the results of a simple exercise. We ask how many hours did a minimum-wage worker have to work to pay for a year of college education (at various kinds of institutions) or a year of health insurance (for an individual or a family). The table compares the experience facing a minimum-wage worker in 1979 — when the minimum wage was $2.90 per hour — with that of a minimum-wage worker in 2010 or 2011 — when the minimum wage was $7.25. (All wages and prices, here and below, are in current dollars — that is the actual dollar value at the time, without any adjustment for inflation. The point is to compare the minimum wage in place in each period with the actual cost of health and education services at the same point in time.)

Here's Why George Zimmerman Is A Free Man

George Zimmerman is still a free man more than a month after he murdered 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida. But public outrage sweeping the nation is now prompting local police to re-launch their investigation. On Tuesday – a report came out that the initial lead investigator in the case wanted to pursue manslaughter charges against Zimmerman, but was told by the state attorney's office that there was insufficient evidence to do so. Sanford police are not re-interviewing witnesses and examining new evidence that could lead to charges eventually being brought against Zimmerman.

Unfortunately – with the "Stand Your Ground" law on the books in Florida – it's nearly impossible to investigate what might be a racially-motivated murder as long as Zimmerman claims he was "defending" himself and there are no witnesses to testify otherwise. We can thank the Koch Brother's American Legislative Exchange Council for this law, that has essentially legalized murder in America to boost profits – and provide protection from lawsuits – for Wal-Mart and the NRA, the gun sellers who brought it to ALEC.

George H.W. Bush Endorsing Mitt Romney

Former President George H.W. Bush will endorse Mitt Romney's presidential candidacy, in another sign that the party's establishment is coalescing around the former Massachusetts governor.

The Romney camp confirmed a report from the Associated Press that the 41st president would appear with Mr. Romney at an event Thursday in Houston and formally endorse him.

The announcement comes after the former president's wife, Barbara, did robo-calls on behalf of the candidate earlier this year and a week after former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, one of Mr. Bush's sons, threw his support behind Mr. Romney, urging the party to rally behind him. There has been no word yet on whether former President George W. Bush will be doing the same.

Mr. Romney has gobbled up roughly half of the 1,144 delegates needed to seal up the nomination, according to the latest Wall Street Journal tally. He has 568 delegates, while former Sen. Rick Santorum claims 273 delegates, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has 135 delegates and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas has 50 delegates.

Justices Skeptical of Health Care Law’s Expansion of Medicaid

Wrapping up a three-day marathon of oral arguments about President Obama’s health care overhaul, the Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday on whether the rest of the law can stand on its own if the justices were to strike down the individual mandate requiring Americans to purchase insurance.

The nine justices seemed to agree that carving out the mandate would dramatically alter much of the law but disagreed on which route to take, with Republican-appointed judges appearing to lean toward scrapping the whole thing while Democrat-appointed judges said that’s a decision for Congress to make.

“It’s a choice between a wrecking operation, which is what you are requesting, or a salvage job,” Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told Paul Clement, an attorney for the states seeking to have the Affordable Care Act tossed out in its entirety. The more conservative approach, Justice Ginsburg said, would be to salvage, “rather than throwing out everything.”

Constitutional Values Treatened By Federal And State Laws

This week the United States Supreme Court listened to oral arguments on the individual mandate and fundamental constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, also known as “ObamaCare”. The federal act requires all citizens to purchase healthcare insurance specified by the federal government or face stiff fines if they do not. The foundation of the argument against the law is basic; one cannot find the authority within the Constitution allowing Congress to force such an activity. Tony O’Donnell, Minority Leader of the Maryland House of Delegates and Candidate for Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, remarked “We the people did not give Congress the power to rule over us in this manner. I fully expect the Supreme Court will uphold the Constitution and strike down the Act.”

As the current national debt continues to rise our narrow-minded representatives show no signs of stopping it. ObamaCare will not only bankrupt the nation it will also put a strain on the Maryland economy. Representative Steny Hoyer in working for Nancy Pelosi pushed the healthcare law through Congress despite large majorities of Americans being against it. Hoyer and Pelosi continue to work today to fuel the fire that is leading to the bankruptcy of our nation. O’Donnell stated “Upon my election to Congress it will be one of my top priorities to repeal this healthcare act completely and enact more sensible free market reforms. Not only will this act destroy our nation's fiscal solvency, the strain it will put on the state of Maryland’s budget is colossal. It will cost Maryland untold hundreds of million more dollars per year to administer and fund this new program. More and more people will be moved off of employer provided health care programs and onto taxpayer provided benefits. As our current budget stands there is no room for this added cost and it will force even more tax increases to pay for this poorly conceived law.”
Maryland is rushing ahead to the forefront of the nation in implementing this reform before we even know if it will be upheld as constitutional. O’Donnell commented, “ I fully expect the legislation to pass both houses of the General Assembly even though many of us are opposed. It appears Governor O’Malley is poised to sign it in to law near the end of session on April 9th. Not only will it push us further into debt it will also allow our very large government to continue to grow and have more control over every aspect of our daily lives. It will also force government to take more of our hard earned money through ever increasing taxes. Let's hope the Supreme Court ultimately strikes down the law or that we elect a Congress in November who will take action to repeal it.”

Lord Monckton: Sheriff Joe, Posse 'Right to be Worried'

After a visit to Phoenix to get a first-hand look at evidence collected by Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his investigative team, former Margaret Thatcher policy adviser Lord Christopher Monckton says he is convinced that the document presented by the White House as Barack Obama’s birth certificate is fraudulent.

Monckton, known internationally for his climate-change skepticism, told WND he didn’t pay much attention to the controversy surrounding Obama’s birth certificate until he watched Arpaio and his team present their preliminary findings at a March 1 news conference. The sheriff’s Cold Case Posse has concluded there is probable cause that Obama’s birth document and his Selective Service registration are forgeries.

Monckton’s interest in Arpaio’s investigation came out in an interview last week on Dennis Miller’s nationally syndicated radio show.

At the invitation of a mutual friend with Arpaio, Monckton came to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Monday to examine the evidence gathered by the team of retired law-enforcement investigators.

“My assessment is that they are right to be worried,” Monckton said in a video interview at the end of the day with WND’s Jerome Corsi. “That document is not genuine.”

Riding Public Transportation Saves Individuals, On Average, $11,795 A Year

Beat High Gas Prices by Switching to Public Transit
Washington, DC -- According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA)and its March Transit Savings Report, individuals in the Philadelphia area who chose to ride public transportation instead of driving a car can save, on average, $983 this month, and $11,795 annually. These savings are based on the cost of commuting by public transportation compared to the cost of owning and driving a vehicle which includes the March 26, 2012 average national gas price ($3.897 per gallon- reported by AAA) and the national unreserved monthly parking rate.

APTA releases this monthly Transit Savings Report to examine how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one less car.

The national average for a monthly unreserved parking space in a downtown business district is $155.22, according to the 2011 Colliers International Parking Rate Study. Over the course of a year, parking costs for a vehicle can amount to an average of $1,863.

For the Philadelphia area and based on the purchase of a monthly public transit pass and factoring in local gas prices for March 26, 2012 and the local monthly unreserved parking rate, the saving is $983 monthly and $11, 795 yearly. These savings are based on gasoline prices as reported by AAA on 3/36/12.

APTA calculates the average cost of taking public transit by determining the average monthly transit pass of local public transit agencies across the country. This information is based on the annual APTA fare collection survey and is weighted based on ridership (unlinked passenger trips). The assumption is that a person making a switch to public transportation would likely purchase an unlimited pass on the local transit agency, typically available on a monthly basis.

APTA then compares the average monthly transit fare to the average cost of driving. The cost of driving is calculated using the 2011 AAA average cost of driving formula. AAA cost of driving formula is based on variable costs and fixed costs. The variable costs include the cost of gas, maintenance and tires. The fixed costs include insurance, license registration, depreciation and finance charges. The comparison also uses the average mileage of a mid-size auto at 23.4 miles per gallon and the price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline as recorded by AAA on March 26, 2012 at $3.897 per gallon. The analysis also assumes that a person will drive an average of 15,000 miles per year. The savings assume a person in two-person household lives with one less car.

In determining the cost of parking, APTA uses the data from the 2011 Colliers International Parking Rate Study for monthly unreserved parking rates for the United States.

Elderly Couple Forced Out of Home After Tweet Claims Killer of Trayvon Martin Lives There

An elderly Florida couple have been forced to move into a hotel after their home address was wrongly tweeted as belonging to the man who shot teen Trayvon Martin.

The tweets were traced back to a man in California and the address was also reportedly retweeted by director Spike Lee to his almost 250,000 followers.

The couple, aged 70 and 72, have been harassed with hate mail, been hassled by media and had scared neighbors questioning them since the tweet, their son Chip Humble told the Orlando Sentinel.

Fearful for their safety, and hoping to escape the spotlight, the couple have temporarily moved to a hotel.

The confusion seems to stem from the fact the woman's son is named William George Zimmerman and he lived briefly at the address in 1995.

On Feb. 21, the Baltimore County Council passed in a 5-2 party-line vote, a controversial bill which will expand rights for homosexuals and crossdressers. On the surface, it may sound benign to some. But the unintended consequences and hidden agendas are what make this a dangerous law for women, children, businesses, churches, and our schools. Don’t judge this bill by the topic alone - it’s simply a bad bill.

- The undefined language in the law could open the door to abuse of the law by pedophiles and predators gaining lawful access to women's and girls’ restrooms and locker rooms. You don't have to dress like a woman to enter women's facilities under this new law.

- It could require transgender issues being written into children's school curriculum and the mandatory hiring of transgender teachers, permitted to crossdress in the classroom.

- It could become an overwhelming financial burden for small businesses, already struggling in the current economy.

- And it could force churches and religious institutions to accept a behavior which is not only listed as a disorder by the American Psychiatric Association, but in direct conflict with the teachings of their faith. This would amount to a clear violation of our constitutional right to Freedom of Religion.

All right here in Baltimore County, brought to us by five councilmen who voted for irresponsible legislation in order to appease a national, multi-million dollar LGBT lobby conglomerate.

Settlement Talks to be Held in Law Clinic-Poultry Pollution Case

Attorneys in a poultry pollution case filed by a University of Maryland environmental law clinic will try to settle the dispute during a conference in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

The clinic represents plaintiffs suing Hudson Farm and Perdue Farms Inc., claiming they are polluting a nearby waterway.

Gov. Martin O’Malley has criticized the lawsuit. The governor wrote a letter to the dean of the university’s law school complaining about what he called the “ongoing injustice” of pursuing costly litigation against the Worcester County farm.

Farm groups say the suit could bankrupt Hudson Farm and set a harmful precedent for other family farms.

The settlement conference Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Paul W. Grimm in Baltimore federal court is closed to the public.

Poll: Americans Angry With Obama Over Gas Prices

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than two-thirds of Americans disapprove of the way President Barack Obama is handling high gasoline prices, although most do not blame him for them, according to a Reuters/Ipsos online poll released on Tuesday.

Sixty-eight percent disapprove and 24 percent approve of how Obama is responding to price increases that have become one of the biggest issues in the 2012 presidential campaign.

In the past month, U.S. fuel prices have jumped about $0.30 per gallon to about $3.90 and the Republicans seeking to replace the Democrat in the November 6 election have seized upon the issue to attack his energy policies.
