Adam Roop Isn't Just Talking, He's A Man Of Action
This morning Adam Roop met with a group of people expressing his personal background/history in Salisbury as well as his interest in entertaining a possible run for Mayor of Salisbury in 2013. He was joined by Family and Friends who enjoyed a fantastic breakfast beforehand at the Black Diamond.
Adam opened up with a very detailed speech in which he focused on topics like Crime, Downtown, Housing, Cleanliness of the City, Macro vs. Micro projects, more revenue generating activities for the City and details of how he would possible tackle each area. More importantly he wanted to open the floor up to questions and personal concerns by those attending.
Adam isn't just talking, he's acting upon his disappointments and even embarrassment in some cases as to the current Mayor and Council. Adam discussed his interest in an open container law for specific Downtown areas and even closing down the Plaza during certain hours. He wants to see a better working relationship between the Council and Landlords and mentioned the City should focus more on repeat offenders who fail to keep their properties compliant.
All in all he delivered what I thought was a well thought out speech with details that quite frankly surprised me for a 28 year old man. Adam Roop admits he's made mistakes in the past both in business and personal. However, he's learned from those mistakes and rather than giving up like many have already, he's faced those difficulties in extremely difficult times and today is enjoying the rewards from sticking with it and moving forward.
This young man is wise beyond his years and quite frankly I feel should be given the chance to get into this next Mayoral race in 2013. He's not feeding citizens a line of crap like Ireton did by stating the river will be clean in 10 years, so much so you'll be able to swim in it again. It's those "feel good" lines that help people get elected but they're always complete BS. IF Ireton knew what he was talking about, if Ireton knew about how much the Zoo pollutes the river, yet the stats were NEVER taken from that part of the river because previous politicians COVERED IT UP until I exposed it, Ireton would know exactly why the swimming stopped at the City Park many years ago. It isn't just the WWTP polluting the river, the Zoo is doing its fair share as well.
He's not just talking, he's backing up what he started. He wants a future here, like so many others. Some Bloggers and haters on Facebook have given Adam a pretty hard time already. Yet NONE of those anonymous people are willing to stick their necks out to make a difference and Adam is doing just that.
So love him or hate him, he's made the first step to let Jim Ireton and all of the citizens of Salisbury know, if you'll have him, he wants to run and make a difference once and for all. If you're looking for a candidate that wants to feed you lines about things you know can't be done, (like clean the river in 10 years) Adam is not your man. However, if you want a new Mayor that will do his very best to bring proven successful business experience to the table with real ideas and results, Adam IS your man.
You've had how many people now tell you they can do it, they can create "Dream Teams" or create civility between council members, how's it working for you Folks? As someone who has been around this local arena for many years now, I believe you should in fact open your arms and start listening to what Adam Roop has to say. The guy is onto something, he's sticking his neck out and while some nay sayers will always say anything opposite of what Joe Albero says/suggests, I'm suggesting you ignore those people who give nothing back to the community and support Adam Roop.
As I stated this morning, I am not endorsing Adam Roop for Mayor of Salisbury. I am supporting Adam Roop's choice to run for Mayor, as should all of you. When all the candidates are on board we will then make our endorsements towards the candidate we feel can in fact make a difference for Salisbury. One thing is for sure, it will NOT be Jim Ireton, John Robinson or Mike Dunn.

Gov't Owed $450B In Unpaid Taxes
(AP)
WASHINGTON - People and businesses underpaid their taxes by an estimated 17 percent in the most recent year studied, failing to send the government a massive $450 billion that it was owed, according to an Internal Revenue Service report released Friday.
The study covered 2006, the most recent data the IRS said was available. The amount of underpaid taxes far exceeded the size of the entire federal budget deficit at the time.
After IRS audits and other enforcement efforts, non-compliance in 2006 shrank to 14 percent. That left the final amount of unpaid taxes at $385 billion, the agency said.
Occupy Wall Street: From Zuccotti Tents To Political Primaries
While tens of thousands of people rang in the New Year with the famous ball drop in Times Square, a few miles to the south, members of Occupy Wall Street ended the year of the protester where the movement took off.
After marches through downtown Manhattan, which included a dizzying run through Chinatown, protesters returned to Zuccotti Park. They first occupied the space on Sept. 17, and it served as their main encampment and symbolic home until police evicted them on Nov. 15. On New Year’s, they tore down barricades erected around the park and piled them in the middle. After scuffles with police, more than 60 people were arrested.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER
I would like get a little personal this week as we approach another year. As most of you know, this has not been the best of years for yours truly. It actually began in November, 2010, when I had a mini-stroke. It was an incident that I am sure many people have and just go home and rest for a couple of hours until the strange feeling passes. Luckily, my two sons insisted I go to the Emergency Room, where I began a two-day stay and underwent every test under the sun. Regular follow-up visits to my primary doctor led her to believe I should see a cardiologist because my blood pressure was remaining high. He ordered a Petscan and from there he said I needed a coronary catheterization. I was getting a bit skeptical about this time and asked where this was going to be done and what did it entail. He said I would go in the hospital in the morning and, if they could free the arteries around my heart with a minor procedure called “balloon surgery”, that’s all they would do. If I needed something more serious, they would put a stint in and I would have to remain in the hospital overnight. I thought this was all becoming more involved than I wanted but “the doctor knows best”. When I woke up after this procedure on March 21, the heart surgeon was standing at the foot of my bed and said. “George, your heart is a mess. You have blockages in three arteries of 92, 95 and 99%. We have to do open heart surgery as soon as possible. You’re a heart attack waiting to happen. If the surgery is not done, I guarantee you will have a fatal heart attack within five years.” This really got my attention. I went in a week to the day and had quadruple heart by-pass surgery. I came through that just fine. The real problem began five days after the heart surgery when I developed toxic megacolon by late Friday. This is when your colon blows up to the point of almost bursting. Another surgeon was called in and operated on me at 1:20 Saturday morning. This operation left me with half a colon and a colostomy and ileostomy bag attached to my stomach. These were bothersome for the three months I had them. I went back in the hospital on June 24 to lose my additional baggage. Another three week stay at PRMC using what they call a wound vacuum left me with over a hundred stitches/staples and two rather sizable holes in my stomach. I came home with a portable wound vacuum I had to live with 24 hours a day for four weeks. This contraption was a real pain in the neck.
During all this recuperation. I developed an ulcer on the rheumatoid nodule on my right heel that prevented me from wearing shoes. I started going to the Wound Center at PRMC on August 15 and went there every week for 10 weeks until October 17.
Because I had fallen twice and they weren’t sure why, I went to PRMC on October 21 for something called a tilt table test. I was making out fine until they put a nitroglycerine tablet under my tongue. Everything went haywire from this point and I thought I was certainly headed back for another stay in the hospital.. I calmed down and heard nothing further from this test.
The next medical issue to address was some spots of actinic keratoses. This is a form of pre-cancer that shows up on many people as a result of exposure to sun when we were young. It is cured by about a six-week process using the miracle cream fluorouracil. Anybody that has any lesions that just won’t go away, this is the cure for that. A four ounce tube of it is available by prescription for about $240.00. When I first used this years ago, I was complaining about the cost to my son. His comment was, “Pretty cheap to get rid of cancer.” I guess he was right, considering what everything has cost me this year.
So, I am now taking 15 pills a day and doing fine. There is a reason why they call it “practice medicine”. This year they have practiced on me.
But to get to the point of this article, I have become acutely aware of my mortality. I had never thought about it before because I have never been sick in my life. Just the thought of not seeing my granddaughters grow up, of leaving this mess of a house behind for my sons to deal with is a very sobering thought. As of now I look forward to many more years to enjoy with my friends and family. Everyone should think about their life and how much they have to live for. Happy New Year –it can’t be any worse than last year!

Dogs Have Same Understanding As Babies, Study Says
A new report in Current Biology highlights that some dogs have the skills of a 6-month-old baby, USA Today reported.
The study’s results “support the notion that dogs are sensitive to the cues of signaling humans’ communicative intent in a way that is analogous to preverbal human infants,” said Jozsef Topel, the study’s author and an associate professor in the Comparative Behavior Research Group at the Institute for Psychological Researches, Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest.

"Superstitions" What Are Your's?
So I am driving my car with my friend and we cross the railroad tracks and it reminded me of a thing we did when we were kids. I said "Did you (as a kid) lift your feet when you went over the tracks"? Reply "Never heard of it". Then he comes up with "Like when you hold your breath passing a graveyard". He got me, I had never heard of that. So here is my question .....
What were or are your Superstitions ?
