RECORD 8.8 MILLION RECEIVE DISABILITY BENEFITS

The number of individuals collecting disability benefits has hit a record high 8,827,795, according to new figures released from the Social Security Administration. On average, beneficiaries receive a $1,130.34 monthly check.

The explosion of individuals now applying for federal disability means applications are being awarded without proper vetting. A congressional report examining a sample of 300 cases found that over a quarter of them “failed to properly address insufficient, contradictory or incomplete evidence.”

  1. A point that tried to make before but fail to articulate clearly is that I believe that as people move to disability, they stop looking for jobs and come off the unemployment roll. Therefore, if the Feds failed to properly police the applications for disability prior to the elections, Obama's unemployment numbers looked better. Not because of new jobs that were created, but by simply shifting unemployed people to taxpayer subsidized disability payments.

And add to that the aging population. No doubt there are some on the roll who shouldn't be there but that makes it hard for those of us who really need it.

Believe me, some of us would much rather be working that sitting on our collective butts, for years, waiting for an approval.

Maybe I should find one of those scammers and ask how to get on quicker?

  5. It leave one wondering, this article fails to mention the percent of increase of the aging population, Vets that return from duty and the past years influx of immigrants or other conditions that make one eligable for disablility

  8. My husbands brother collects disability and he is not disabled he is able to work but chooses not to.He stole from his employer and lost his job since then he has become disabled he makes 1600.00 a month to sit on his tail. It really pisses me off to know that he is playing the system as well as several others. I know people who are really disabled and deserve disability but are unable to get it.Goverment sucks and we taxpayers are paying for alot of undeserving people.

Looks like you're the only one whining. Do you have anything constructive to add to the discussion?
