Michael Moore: ‘Calm Down, White People, and Put Away Your Guns’

Documentary-maker and liberal activist Michael Moore said the reason for mass shootings in the United States is largely due to fear and racism, and on Christmas Eve he pleaded, “calm down, white people, and put away your guns.”

In a blog post entitled “Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns,”while still calling for stricter gun-control laws, Moore said such laws will not stop mass killings because of “who we are” as a nation.

“We are a country whose leaders officially sanction and carry out acts of violence as a means to often an immoral end,” Moore said. “We invade countries who didn't attack us. We're currently using drones in a half-dozen countries, often killing civilians.”

  2. Michael,

Why don't you start with your dead head friends in hollywood. Can they do a film that doesn't have guns, sex, and profanity?

  11. “We need a ban on automatic AND semiautomatic weapons and magazine clips that hold more than 7 bullets,” Moore added. “We need better background checks and more mental health services. We need to regulate the ammo, too.”

I agree whole heartedly. And all of you putting down Michael Moore need to take a close watch of his flicks -- the man makes a hell of a lot of sense. Fear drives the good ole USA economically and socially.

  14. Fear 12:58-I doubt that. People feeling secure is what drives the economy.
Fear may play a role in the social drive but it's a fact based fear.
One would have to be living under a rock to not know what segment of the population is wrought with crime and violence. This fear does have something to do with race but more to do with a sterotype.
If Moore is insinuating we invade countries out of fear that's insanity. It's out of revenge (for the people) and the defense industies control over Obama (for the politicians.)
This country for the most part has no fear. It's too dependant on the government being it's saviour. People only fear when they are directly confronted.

  15. 12:58 how does fear drive the USA economically? Fear does promote responsiblity such as fearing to have a child you can't support could lead one to put off having a child until they are more responsible. Fear of the consequences of breaking a law promotes responsiblity. But promotes the economy? I don't think so.
A large majority of the US population doesn't fear much. If they did their actions would speak of it.

  16. Fear. A lot of that mentioned here. That's a BIG problem.

There are two ways to make a decision when an issue comes up.
One can decide based on fear.
Or, on makes a decision in love.

Personally, Community wise, State wide, or as a Country.

Go back and read the text and substitute the word fear for love. It will read entirely differently, and tell you the correct answers.

    Have fun!

  18. Too much "love" in the form of acceptance is what has ruined this country. This form of "love" has been the number one cause of poverty which in turn promotes crime.
The time needs to come once again when irresponsible behaviours are looked down upon and the people who behave irresponsibly are shunned and ostracized by society.
It's the only thing that will promote responsiblity.

  19. And the story yesterday was his body guard was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in an airport where he didn't have a permit.
