Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday he hasn’t been able to work up a plan to avert the fiscal cliff, leading his Republican counterpart, Sen. Mitch McConnell, to turn to Vice President Joseph R. Biden instead to try to cut a deal.
“I’m willing to get this done, but I need a dance partner,” Mr. McConnell said in a dramatic plea on the Senate floor at 2 p.m., saying he’d sent an offer over to Mr. Reid at 7:10 p.m. Saturday night and was promised an answer early Sunday, but one never materialized.
A subdued Mr. Reid responded that he has been unable to work up a response among his own troops.

The don't need a counter offer.. The offer was made when Obama was reelected. Republicans need to wake up on this idea that the people do not like their Grover Norquist approved plan
ReplyDeleteSo you want your taxes to go up to pay for their endless spending?
ReplyDeletewhen did it become the Senate's responsibility to propose a budget? From what I remember in a 7th grade civics class 20 years ago, the House of Representatives are own this process. I understand that the House is GOP controlled... oh, I get it now, I just answered my own question
ReplyDeleteBarely winning with a bunch of shady elections reports hardly becomes a mandate.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans are poor negotiators, though. They keep giving more and don't seem to extract anything from the Dems.
I believe Obama won all swing states except 1.....he crushed Romney
Delete48 million Americans disagreed.
ReplyDeleteOf course they have not counter offer.
ReplyDeleteTheir only defense is say it's the GOP's fault. That's all these losers can do is point fingers.
Nothing constructive from the dumbocrat party
2:19 Just FYI Democrats lost control of the House 2 years ago, and they had control of both, House & Senate for some years before and guess what - Same Results - No Budget. And then came budget plan created by Mr. Paul Ryan and it had passed the House but was rejected by Democrat controlled Senate. No counter offers were made. Not saying Republicans are perfect, and yes they are poor negotiators. Now, we the Independents are tired of both of these parties constantly screwing the taxpayers and working people of America for their own political gain. WE THE PEOPLE propose following:
ReplyDelete1) If there is No Agreement on the Fiscal Cliff situations by Jan 1, 2013 all of the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate will forfeit (loose) their monthly salaries for month of December
2) If the agreement is not made by Feb 1, 2013 same would apply to their salaries for the month of January. This would continue on the month to monh bases until the agreement is reached
We are Independents and WE THE PEOPLE APPROVE THIS MESSAGE.
The Dems took back more of the house and will control it in two years if the tea baggers continue to hold the country at a standstill with their uncomprimising stances on every issue whether it be financial or social concerns. We the majority of the people will show up and vote at the midterms this time, and a true will of the people will be carried out in Washington.
