Gerald Molen, the Oscar-winning producer of Schindler’s List, is claiming political bias because a documentary movie he produced this year isn't up for an Oscar, even though that film, 2016: Obama’s America, made more money at the box office than the combined earning of the 15 films the Academy deemed eligible.
2016 is a negative take on President Barack Obama. It was co-written and directed by author Dinesh D’Souza, and earned $33.4 million at the domestic box office. But its omission on the list of the 15 documentaries the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday would advance in the voting process makes it ineligible for an Oscar.
"Dinesh warned me this might happen," Molen laughed on Tuesday. "The action confirms my opinion that the bias against anything from a conservative point of view is dead on arrival in Hollywood circles. The film’s outstanding success means that America went to see the documentary in spite of how Hollywood feels about it."

Welcome to the beginnings of our dictatorship form of government,
ReplyDeleteNot a snub, the movie was a trash hit peice.
ReplyDeleteThe really sad part is that people don't even realize what is happening. I suppose it's always that way. One day they wake up and realize they are answering to the government for everything they do.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't win the Presidency, can't win an oscar, getting ready to lose on the Fiscal Cliff deal... You Reps can't catch a break. It's almost as if you're out of touch with the majority of Americans or something.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is pure garbage. Oscar nomination???? No, don't think so.
ReplyDeleteA sad aspect of it all is that more and more people want to answer to government as long as government takes care of them. Those of us who were taught that if you want something you should be willing to work for it are on the wane. R.I.P. - U.S.A. I may be dillusional, but I still have a flicker of hope that we can defeat the socialist tide.
ReplyDeleteOh PLEASE, give the "free stuff" trope a break. I voted for Obama on the the basis of Obamacare; a law which I believe to be a huge step toward fair, equitable healthcare for all people, not just those who can afford it. I work THREE jobs and live quite comfortably. I'm a centrist but I also believe in reality, and I don't see Obama taking us any closer to a totalitarian regime than Bush did, and when you people say it you sound as batty as the liberals who accused Bush of the same thing. Stop being a punch line, you're dragging your party down.
