Two Year Old Killed In Fatal Crash, Delmar

Location: Whitesville Road (SR30), west of Whaley’s Road, Delmar, DE

Date of Occurrence: Tuesday November 13, 2012 at approximately 2:40 p.m.

Operator and Vehicle Information:

  • Operator #1: Danielle M. Bobak, 46, Georgetown, DE
  • Vehicle #1: 2007 Subaru Legacy
  • Passenger: Lleyton Slate (male nephew of operator), 2, Delmar, DE (Deceased)

Resume:
Delmar, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a single car crash that fatally killed a young child.

The incident occurred Tuesday November 13, 2012 at approximately 2:40 p.m. as Danielle M. Bobak was operating a 2007 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Whitesville Road (SR30) just west of Whaley’s Road.  As the Subaru entered into a moderate curve to the left, the passenger’s side wheels drifted off the south side of the roadway.  In an attempt to bring the vehicle back on the roadway, Bobak over corrected causing the Subaru to spin in a counter-clockwise manner.  The vehicle then exited the north side of the roadway where the front of the car struck a tree spinning the vehicle and rolling it onto the passenger’s side before coming to a stop.

Lleyton Slate, who was seated in the rear center position in a car seat, was partially ejected from the vehicle after it rolled onto its side due to the car seat not being properly secured in the vehicle.  He was removed by EMS and initially transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) before being flown to John Hopkins where he was pronounced dead.

Danielle Bobak, who was properly restrained, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to PRMC where she is currently admitted in serious condition.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  A preliminary investigation suggests alcohol was involved.  Whitesville Road in the area of Whaley’s Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police and Office of Highway Safety want to remind the public to have your car seats checked.  Three out of four car seats aren’t installed correctly.  Free check stations are offered throughout Delaware and are listed online by visitinghttp://ohs.delaware.gov/carseat or by contacting the Office of Highway Safety at (302)744-2740.

  1. My heart and prayers to the family. So tragic. I can only hope alcohol wasn't a factor as said.

  2. "remind the public to have your car seats checked"

Maybe not drink and driving would be better.

  3. unnecessary.Let the family grieve in peace. What drives people to need to know about information like this? Are people that sad that this is information that they must know about. I like to look at your site but seeing stories like this posted makes me want to just stay away. My heart truly goes out to this family.

This is not a story......this is a POLICE REPORT. I bet you would be the first to scream if the police didn't release such information.

  6. I do not read police reports. I actually have a life outside of the internet/newspapers. I would actually never scream about not being able to read a story about a 2 year old dying.Someone breaking into homes and raping people? Yes we should read about that. I am simply saying its not something that HAS to be posted. And I don't need to be spoken to in all caps as if my parents were brother and sister. I understand it's a POLICE REPORT. I print out an accounts receivables REPORT every month. Should that be published as well???

  7. 10:53, why don't you tell the family it's not a story....only a police report. It was a child that is now gone. I don't really think some of these "police reports" are necessary anyway. The family has enough to deal with without the whole world knowing what's going on.

  8. You people amaze me at times.

While this is extremely unfortunate, we ALSO provide Press Release encouraging YOU to please attend FREE car seat checks on a very regular basis.

Our hope is to educate Parents in the hopes situations like this are eliminated for good.

Some times it takes a horrific situation like this for us to learn.

  10. You people seriously get off the topic and criticize people at any opportunity! Quit worrying about what is in caps and what this news story is "called". My heart goes out to the family! I pray that the mom can stay strong at a time like this for the rest of her family! Lleyton will be looking over all of them.

  11. My heart hurts for the family..Bruce and Tiffany are wonderful people, and have another little girl who is also going to grieve her brother's death. They are Christian family, and will look to God in this time of true tragedy. I do not know the aunt who was driving, but pray that alcohol was not a factor. God bless your family.

  13. 11:11-Joe,most if not all people who have never been in a wreck don't realize the forces involved. You are absolutely correct and should be commended for listing car seat check times and locations. Some just don't realize the awesome force of a wreck until it's too late.
