The Death Of Civility — And Free Speech – At Fordham

Leftist doublespeak has long declared that true freedom can only come at the cost of censoring speech which offends or demeans marginalized groups. This paradoxical ethos is now evident in many aspects of American life including the Obama administration’s support of an anti-blasphemy resolution in the UN and in the doctrine of “Islamophobia” which holds that any criticism of Islam is illegitimate and based on irrational fears. These views have unsurprisingly filtered down to the campuses. The most recent example is Fordham University, a Jesuit campus located in New York City, where the University president, left-wing students, and even the campus College Republican chapter have colluded to deny Ann Coulter the right to speak on campus. What’s worse, they have lauded their decision under the guise of free speech.
The controversy began when Fordham’s chapter of the College Republicans invited well known conservative author and commentator, Ann Coulter, to speak on campus. Coulter is a mainstream conservative who is well known for her commentary on Fox News and other stations, for her numerous books and articles, and for speeches at CPAC and other large conventions.

  1. Actually, I believe the entire student body AND The President of the University struck a huge VICTORY for civility in the way they handled the situation. We could all learn a little bit about compromise from those kids.

  3. Yes this is the same University that on Friday of last week welcomed Peter Singer who is an advocate for infanticide and bestiality. Yes Im sure the 2 above people are happy about that! WTG for civility!

  4. 1:03 and 2:27 You should be ashamed. Hey, if you don't want to hear a different point of view that is fine. I have a problem when you take away everyone else's CHOICE.

  5. Shameful. A Catholic University that doesn't allow a pro choice speaker but allows a pro abortion speaker (Singer). Seems like they have taken free speech and God out of Fordham.

  6. 6:15 here. I meant to say pro life not pro choice.

  7. According to Fordham's website, Fisher took part last Friday in a panel discussion about ethical treatment of animals. It had nothing to do with abortion, regardless of what his views on that subject are.

The beauty of what happened regarding Coulter's planned appearance is that it wasn't cancelled by executive fiat. After the campus community as a whole had an opportunity to comment, the organizers of the event thought better of it and cancelled it themselves.

  8. I'd rather have Ms Meanie Colter than a pervert like Singer. He's just a freak in his promotion of bestiality. I'd rather sit and listen to Coulter anyday than look at the pervert Singer and thinking what he does to animals. I'd be rather suspious of the kid/kids who wanted him to speak. They are weird. There are plenty of normal people to speak about the treatment of animals. This is just sick.

  9. Fordham is left wing and likes censorship. Just like some blogs.
