Perdue Farms says the implications are enormous in a Maryland poultry pollution case being heard by a federal judge in Baltimore.
The Salisbury-based poultry company says if it loses, all poultry farms on the Eastern Shore will be liable for Clean Water Act violations. And companies like Perdue will be considered operators of their contract growers' farms. But Perdue says in a post-trial filing that the plaintiffs haven't proven their case.
I am thinking give them what they want. Then when perdue leaves town we can thank the water keepers. I am at the stage where it may be better to fail as a nation and start over then deal with what we have now.
ReplyDeleteThey have already lost , obama will see to that. The government will own the chicken producers and many other companies.
ReplyDeleteThis will be a socialist state. You wanted it , now you got it.
obama has nothing to do with the perdue case. That's like saying that Iraq had something to do with 9/11. Farmers and Environmentalists need to find a way to compromise so that farmers can work without posioning the well...just like the scumbags in annapolis and washington.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a society now where people just yell at one another..no one listens...there is no discourse, and therefore, there is little to no forward progress.
Everyone just takes their trucks and they leave the sandbox and go home...It's maddening.
this has nothing to do with socialism. Oi to the freakin' Vey!

This is exactly why Delmarva needs a large scale independant poultry processing facility because the threats are getting old. These large companies have run everyone else out by years ago paying the growers more money and lobbying for regulation then when the more than a dozen independant processors were gone they systematically started paying the growers less and less and putting more restrictions on them and suddenly want less regulation.
Look at the big picture. If they "leave" they leave. Don't let the door hit them in the butt. There is a butt for every seat. No one is going to stop eating chicken. There will always be a demand and someone will be more than willing to pick up the slack.

Well hell, that can stop the trial now. You have decided what the truth is for all of us.
I'm not a tree hugger 4:45. Quite the opposite though I would prefer to know my well water is free of pollutants caused by irresponsible companies. I'm a far right conservative who believes one of the few functions of the government should be to monitor companies who may take advantage and cut costs resulting in environmental damages. It's one of the very few things I think people deserve. I don't think people deserve or are entitled to housing, schooling, healthcare, cell phones etc. You want that you pay for it. But I do believe people deserve clean air to breath, and pollutant free waterways.
ReplyDelete4:18, you do know that the EPA was a product of big corporations who lobbied for such an agency as a way to get around the anti trust laws that are in place don't you? They needed a way to regulate the "little guy" out of business so they could create monopolies. It was a product of Nixon and his corporate buddies.
