  1. This is exactly why I have been warning everyone to stay out of OC.

When you see something like this you know very well that they -(status quo)- is going tattoo you and try and enslave the general population with taxes, fees, citations, you name it - they are going to 'stick it to the man'.

The taxpayers have been come the servants unto the establishment. You can see this first hand.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Wow what are these salaries in area counties and other towns?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm voting Hall & Hall and NO on this. I'm tired of some of the council members (and hopefuls) whose policy is to spend spend spend (others people's money!)
Ocean City should be flush with money after the real estate boom and it isn't thanks to the irreponsibility of the We Got It Now Spend It mentality of some.

    ReplyDelete
  4. But you think Salisbury Public Works employees make too much?

I can tell you for a fact assistant department heads in the wastewater, water, street, ect... Make HALF of what is displayed here. Many are 30 year vets working for $40-50k, while in OC, according to this post, the wastewater assistant makes $87k.

Now maybe you'll understand why public works employees showed up to ask for a raise after 5 tears of being passed over.

    ReplyDelete
  5. They are simply overpaid. No reason to pay this kind of salary in this area. These people would work for 1/2 the money because they can't make this kind of money any where else.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Looks like OC's got the "Too Many Chiefs-Not Enough Indians" syndrome going on. They got assistant this, deputy that and it looks like 1/2 the PD is ranked and FD/EMS. Who allowed this to happen? This is what the lower level/general city employees need to be and should be complaining about. That this was even allowed to happen is ludicrous.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oh but wait a minute, I thought City of Salisbury employees are overpaid by about 8% according to the Singer Group who compared them to other organizations including the Town of Ocean City. Now the taxpayers can see what a load of crap that is.

  8. Somebody needs to start a tax union.

    ReplyDelete
  9. this is absolutely unbelievable. these salaries are bloated and i'm sure if you look at their benies you will see a more bloated figure.

all levels of government are out of control and there is only one way to cut them back. break the unions and get conservative, common sense leadership.

  10. If you are smart, you will inform your kids, cousins, relatives, to stay clear of Ocean City, MD. I agree with the commenter above whose advise is to stay out of OC.

One will need really deep pockets to fund these municipal workers. And if you are a business, my advise is to get out of there.

  11. That is why I like coming to this site. SBYnews is fair and balanced. They tell things like they should be told, plain and simple. The salary numbers speak for themselves. I am sure glad that I sold all my properties down there. I saw this coming years ago.

  12. "Who allowed this to happen?"

The former city manager who is now in the running for a council seat. If he wins he's going to do things like rebuilt the skateboard park! Can you imagine???? These government people are so out of touch with the average person it is unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nearly every position listed are unionized and, thanks to Joe Hall's personal vendettas, the cost for the City Manager is actually double what is shown. Joe Hall was explicitly told not to contact the candidates during the selection process of Recor but he felt he was above everyone and did anyway. Why? Because Joe felt he was part of the Council majority. The scary thing is that a single family in OC represents 50% of that majority and that more closely resembles the Mafioso than open government. Get the Hall out of OC government!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd like to vote out the morons who thought it would be such a clever idea to combine the city and the national election! The jerks behind it keep repeating how it was going to save the city what amounts to peanuts when you look at these bloated salaries!

    ReplyDelete
  15. To the whiners on here from Salisbury public works, if you are making $40 - $50 thousand, you are making a lot more than me. If I don't do my job or do it well, people can get sick or even die, so don't tell me how much more important your job is than mine.

Ocean City is wealthy, get it? Wicomico and Salisbury are not wealthy, get it? I haven't had a raise in almost 5 years, so I get it.

You want that kind of money? Go get a job in Ocean City. I will get retrained and come do your job. I had to get training and change careers before to get this far. I can do it again to get your job and the at least $10 thousand more than I make now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Average salary for a general manager of a hotel or restaurant in Ocean City is $63,000. These people are grossly overpaid. They can retire in their 50's while we have to work into our 70's to pay their retirement. I will vote for the conservatives who will watch out for our money. Hall & Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ocean city is wealthy on the backs of non resident property owners who pay huge taxes but can't vote and have no say. The residents get a homestead credit and this keeps their taxes low. why do you think businesses are leaving for Berlin and other areas. Grossly overpaid. Who let this happen?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Let straighten something out right now. The public works employees in Salisbury generally do not make 40k t0 50k. The reality is that most of them make around 22k to 36k. If you are still so hot and heavy to want their jobs, watch the city website because open positions are posted all the time. Maybe after 30 years you can get up to 50k.

    ReplyDelete
  19. These people can't be that overworked either. Yes Ocean City is very busy in the summer months, but they also have a very slow period in the winter. Everything there is seasonal.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Golf superintendent $109,000?? What does he do for that amount of money?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Much of the police officer salaries are a combination of overtime (special events, etc) and the DROP program (which pay officer's extra for about 3 years in exchange for forcing the officer to retire). No doubt though, those salaries are insane.

    ReplyDelete
  22. typical government salaries , over-paid to do nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 11:59 - How do you know all these things. Who are you to decide what any hotel/restaurant manager in the private sector should be paid? They are grossly overpaid? Our Government is built on Capitalism. Over achievers get paid more than under achievers. Your views mimic that of Socialism, not Conservatism. The current one family heavy Council majority has divided the Town and their attacks on the workforce has driven them towards union representation. Let's not forget the genuine idiocy in awarding an exclusive supply contract to Coca Cola that would save the Town a lousy $56K when Pepsi was bringing in millions with their Dew Tour. Vote out the Halls and bring back common sense with integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Who is responsible for letting this happen in OC. I'll tell you - it is the former City Manager who is now running for a OC Council position.

Fact is, the OC city residents are the ones saddled with this suffocating situation. I agree with the commenter no. 1 - the residents have become slaves to the municipal workers. The same is going to happen here in Wicomico - you'll see - with the recent shift of the school teachers pensions onto each county.

    ReplyDelete
  25. RECREATION/PARKS DIRECTOR @ 140,321.75. This is insane in a town of less than 7000 year round residents.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1:07. Please tell me which of these is your job.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The OC officals and mainly the residents would benefit tremendously by allowing most of these positions to be filled by independent contractors. I have seen this before, and many municipalities are doing just that. The building inspections, sewer plant operation, public works department could easily be outsourced and save millions.

I do not understand how City Manager Dennis Dare could have allowed this to happen. I agree with some of the commenters, OC is no place to own property. If you are seeking to buy resort property you are doing so at your own peril.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Many of these salaries are incorrect. IE the City Clerk is inflated by $40K, there are currently 3 Police Captains not 4, and many jobs have been eliminated. Be careful what is printed in a political ad because after all it is a"political ad" code phrase for lies!!!!

    These are old figures.

You want answers? Then come out today and GET FACTS, not buzz words.

  30. Waaa Waa Waaa get a job in Ocean City. Most could not do the job. In Wicomico Mike Lewis gave his top staff a raise and did not give one to the deputies. Wow !!!! Does he have to get the o.k. to do this. Why would an elected officials give some of his staff a raise but not the people working beat work. I heard the monday-friday crew got at least 8% plus the county raise. I guess it is good to be the King. Just does not make sense. Joe why no news on this you are a tax watch dog ????

    ReplyDelete
  31. To 2:09

Why don't you knock off the small talk - the point being that these salaries are atrocious. I did not have anything to do with making this list but I can give you some more shocking salaries of former OC retired officals. That is if you are man enough to take it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The current Council majority DOES need to take a new direction..... Out The Door.

    ReplyDelete
  33. And they all applied for Food Stamps also!

    ReplyDelete
  34. ALL of these salaries are inflated by AT LEAST 30% higher than they should be. ALL of them. OC taxpayers should REVOLT. They could put a hiring and salary freeze on for the next 10 years. I've done HR work over 20 years so this is not a guess.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Golf pro at over $90,000? I used to work at Eagle's Landing and I can tell you the golf pro is worth about $35,000 and the superintendent is worth about $60,000.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dennis Dare is the biggest problem with these high union salaries and the voters in Ocean City would be foolish to vote for him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You know what is really funny? A couple of years ago a paramedic in Ocean City was sleeping with the former town managers old lady. Shucks I almost got fired for that!

    ReplyDelete
  38. The NEW team offers a face to face audience with citizens with questions (Blue Ox). The OLD team offers a black pickup truck cruising the highway as well as some goon wearing and emergency operations shirt who is waving at drivers and holding a Joe Hall sign claiming the Hall mafioso to be new world order. Don't be fooled!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with above comment that says OC should privatize. When a town goes from 200,000+ to below 10,000 for the majority of the year they do not need even 200 full time year round employees. It is not rocket science. Start phasing out.

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL----So----7:47 What exactly what is your point? Okay so the "NEW team" has a Q & A at the Blue OX? Are we supposed to be impressed? Is that what you are insinuating? Because someone has a no doubt controlled forum as opposed to someone who campaigns out of pickup that is better?
You are the one who is "fooled."

    November 3, 2012 6:47 PM"

I agree. He was in charge when Ocean City had a windfall due to the short lived over inflated real estate prices. He is not a forward thinker and felt the need to spend it all. As far as the PD it appears as those a disproportionate are of an elevated rank. How did this happen? Who allowed this? Yes too many chiefs and not enough indians going on here esp in the PD and FD. This is crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 1:07, Having worked for forever in the corporate office of a Fortune 500 international corp one thing I can tell you is to not ever count on the whims of something like the Dew Tour. You have to look at the big picture. Maybe quite possible a big wig at CC (maybe it's the biggest wig even) at CC has a stake in OC? Take that for what it is worth but do not second guess until you know the whole story.

Why? I happen to like the so called majority. They are in touch with the tax payers.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No one on this thread ever stated City of Salisbury Public Works employees make $40-50k as an average. The statement was a 30 year assistant superintendent made that much. If a person makes that much in a leadership position after 3 decades of service, you can imagine how low the pay is for average workers. And to those that complain about city workers wanting more money I say you need to understand some are working 3 jobs, because many positions remain frozen or unfilled.

Also, the city CURRENTLY has openings, please apply. If you are out of work and not applying for jobs to better your situation, then you don't have any right to blast me for trying to better mine.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Do NOT support Cymek and Knight! Nor do NOT ever support the FOP again. When interviewing for the city managers job both Cymek and Knight behaved indecently by walking out of the room on Hal Adkins. Infantile behaviour which includes exchanges on Facebook proves they are immature and too childish to deserve a spot on the city council. We need adults serious about the position and not those who never outgrew high school shenanigans.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I rather have the OLD team with their black pickup truck than the childish twaddle of the NEW team. There facebook exchanges say it all.
Cymek-"I got all Jim Hall and Joe Hall's phone records."
Knight-"Doug, you are such a bad boy."
    Cymek-"Just starting the fire."
Knight-"If you need flint I have an over abundance."
    Cymek-"Burn baby burn"

Last thing OC needs are council members who engage in such silly nonsense. Must have had a few too many when they posted this meaningless chatter. They should be ashamed to even face the public at the Blue Ox.

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL-8:01. I saw this. Too much. Tip for the Day-If you want to give the appearance of a professional adult stay the heck off of FB. It is so not the thing to do.
Some of us should show up outside the Blue Ox with signs saying "Dougie's a Bad Boy" and "Burn Baby Burn."
    That will frost them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sorry folks cry all you want. The F.O.P. is here to stay. The people voted for collective bargaining for a reason. The salaries you see are inflated and in some cases a flat out lie printed. Most of you crying are Obamahnites anyway. Go grab a newport and a twenty ounce. The Hall's have an agenda of their own. Most people in political office are there for personal gain.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Please add into the mix the $25k insurance plan on the taxpayer, the 18 holidays plan on the taxpayer, the annual cola on the taxpayer, the free educational trips on the taxpayer, the free uniform dry cleaning on the tax payer, the 4 months of work - 12 months of pay on the taxpayer, free golf at the city golf course that doesn't pay overheads like the private clubs (and also does not have a $250k checks for two employees), a former city manager who brought us these out of on control compensations, and a current mayor who refuses to see the insanity (that right, he is a realtor first), and OC you get what your get. Yes I say, Unions will take you out of the bondage that the tax payer has out you under!

    ReplyDelete
  50. These salaries are crazy. Who let this happen. Also, how come I never hear about the mayor who made hundreds of thousands of $$$$ representing developers and their condo projects. That is wrong a serious conflict of interest and these salaries are wrong. Should be at minimum a 10% immediate reduction. I am sure that they could survive a 10% cut in this economic environment.

    ReplyDelete
  51. was this thread the top in posts for yesterday. if so can it be placed on the main page.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Start privatizing OC. Cut everything you can including PD. Make a deal with the county and state. It is out of control with all these corporals, captains, segeants, etc. This IS way too many chiefs and not enough indians. This is out of control and anyone with 3 working brain cells can see it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The FOP is here to stay 9:19 but I think it would be in their best interest to act like adults. For them to endorse both Knight and Cymek after seeing that childishness they engaged in on FB says alot about the lack of professionism at the PD.
The FOP may be here to stay but they need to start acting like professional adults. It's not cool thinking that police officers behave like children.

    ReplyDelete
  54. WooHoo 8:01! Let's all go to FB and make some veiled threats kinda like high school kids do.
    It's a really classy thing to do-LOL.
This silliness seen by 2 elected officials is gross.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Seriously FOP what kind of men and woman are you that you would support the type of threatening bully behavior shown by the 2 you support on Facebook?
It does NOT speak well to you all's character. Veiled threats should not be tolerated by anyone especially the police dept.
When you think about this the more disturbing it becomes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have no confidence in either Cymek or Knight. If they didn't feel enough confidence in themselves to pick a new city manager and pushed for an outside company to do it when it is their job and what they are elected for then they need to go. Same with picking a new PD chief. They refused to give someone within the city already a fair chance by putting their own feelings first and that does not speak well for them. You do not put your personal feeling ahead of what is in the best interest of the citizens. That is what is a serious character flaw. It's not about you but is about the business of running the city. The last thing the voters and residents need are a couple of showoffs posing as elected officials. It's not cute.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The FD union supports Cymek and Knight too. Says alot about their character also. The hypocrasy shown by these candidates who claim to want civiility and respectfulness and then resort to immature behavior on FB is digusting. Why would the FOP or FF union memebers ever support this? Is this how they teach their children that hypocrasy is alright? Yes it does speak volumes as to the character of these characters. Atleast from the PD I would expect more.
