Informational Meeting Nov. 20 For Potential Foster And Adoptive Parents

Learn how you could support children in the community as a foster, adoptive or respite parent by attending a monthly informational meeting hosted by the Wicomico County Department of Social Services (DSS). An informational meeting is held the third Tuesday of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Wicomico Public Library in Salisbury; the next meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20. Those wishing to pursue becoming a foster or adoptive parent would then participate in 27 hours of PRIDE (Parents Resource for Information Development and Education) Foster Adoptive Training, and an initial home assessment, before deciding whether to help children through providing foster, adoptive or respite care. Foster families are needed to provide temporary, safe, stable and nurturing homes for children until they can be reunited with their families, placed with relatives, or adopted. Foster families with a heart to help children and their families are needed every day to work with children of all ages and races, as well as those with special needs. Pre-service training (described above) is provided, along with ongoing support from DSS. For more information please call Kelly Bishop, Tri-County Recruiter, at 410-713-3959.
