The first picture captions that the surfer was from Virginia Beach.
Long history of local surfers, and few come to mind that still live here because the waves are usually small and not very long rides when they are ridable.
Dean Thompson (Billy's Sub) from OC comes to mind as someone that would be crazy enough to take on the big waves. I watched him paddle across the inlet during Gloria and got to the Assateague side to catch some waves.
We're all getting old now and bones don't heal as fast : )
