Public Comments

Heard from representatives of the Consistent Attire Program (CAP) committee and West Salisbury Elementary, a CAP school, about a small modification to the guidelines to allow for jackets and sweaters during cooler weather. CAP committee members shared data from the first few weeks of the school year showing a reduction in referrals from the previous year. A West Salisbury parent shared that she feels CAP is a necessity to prevent stereotyping and bullying based on clothes, and suggested the Board add CAP rules for shoes. West Salisbury’s principal said CAP has been very positive for the school, leading to better behavior, self-esteem and pride, and parents have expressed that CAP is both affordable and easier to deal with in the morning.

Heard from Kelly Stephenson, president of the Wicomico County Education Association (WCEA). She formally introduced herself to the Board as the new president of the WCEA and said she looks forward to meeting with Board members to discuss technology training, the new evaluation system, and access to instructional materials and resources.
