It's called separation of church and state. The Government should not be driven by any religious belief. If a citizen wants to keep their kid home for some reason, they should do what everyone else does. Deal with it. Those who do not share another's religious belief have no desire to kill cows unless it's for dinner.
This is repadly becoming a muslim country and Americans are allowing it by voting for Obama. It makes me sick to see Obama signs in the yards of educated white people. They must have been asleep for the last 4 years.
Does this mean that anyone who wants to take their kid out of school for a day without them having to make up work just has to write a letter to the BOE and say its because of their religion? I guess it won't count on their attendance record either. The BOE needs to publicly express their opinion on this letter. But I'm not holding my breath.
I have no problem excusing a student for observance of a religious holiday, I do have a problem teaching the religious significance of them not being there. Now if they are learning religion in the course of world history or world cultures, not a problem, but it has to include all relevant religions for that course. Whether it is Hindu, Islamic, christian, Jewish or other, but it has to be relevant and as an overview. I see no need to teach specifics of any religion. You can't deny a person's ability to observe their religion, but it shouldn't be forced on all the others either.
Looks perfectly clear to me - not.

ReplyDeleteIf they aren't allowing any Christian studies in public schools then there is no need for Muslim studies either.
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the Pastafarians?
