White House Told Of Militant Claim Two Hours After Libya Attack

(Reuters) - Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.
One of the emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mentions that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.
The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

  1. How can Democrats trust Obama on anything?
The man is a pathological liar and it is an indictment of his entire
    regime.

He should not be voted out of the White House, he should be taken out in handcuffs like the criminal he is.

  2. Obama is evil. He had all the resourses available at his fingertips to attempt to save the lives of the 4 who were murdered and he sat and did nothing because he didn't want anyone to think his Arab Spring/Middle East policies were anything but a success.
Then when the murders happened he lied and said it was a spontaneous attack triggered by a video.

  3. Obama, Biden and Panetta sat in the Situation Room while this unfolded and played Russian Roulette with people's lives. When the unthinkable occured and the 4 men were murdered they came up with the video excuse. Not only is Obama a pathological serial liar he is truly evil and a sorry excuse for a human being much less the president whose first and foremost duty is to protect Americans.

  4. 1236, what are you talking about. Please read the info. on the attack sometime after you have sobered up from the jack daniels. The timeline clearly shows that a reaction team of over 60 armed personnel responded to the attack. They are followed by a US team from Tripoli. It's tragic they were unable to save those 4 lives, but cut the "did nothing" garbage.

This isn't playstation or xbox. And last I checked, those cool star trek teleportation machines haven't been built yet.

  5. BO lied because he wanted everyone to think that AL-Qaida died when Seal Team 6 exterminated Obama Bin Ladin

  6. This warrants impeachment!!

  7. You are wrong 1:00.
A six-person, quick-reaction security team arrives from their compound across town. About 60 Libyan militiamen accompany them. They attempt to secure a perimeter around Stevens' building and take turns going inside. Taking fire, Libyan forces determine they can't hold the perimeter. A decision is made to evacuate the compound and return with everyone to the reaction force's compound.
Hours later reinforments from the Tripoli incident response team arrive on a chartered aircraft.
The response teams are totally outnumbered and ill equipped to handle the 100-150 terrorists.

  8. ~People sometime mistake the level of their intelligence with that of others, what sounds good to them must sound good to others... here we have a perfect case of that treatment, Obama is Not smart, this White House is Not smart... and it becomes more and more evident each day.

There was a problem, terrorists attacked the USA's Libya Ambassador, killing him and the people protecting him, so what do you do? Simple, you use a video as a scape-goat, it's must have seemed a gift from heaven, a way to deflect blame and still distract the America voters for a few weeks, yet now we see it's coming home to haunt them, blame being thrown left and right, powerful players trying to save their necks at the cost of others and a President that has no tricks left to play, no more trump cards, no more spin... he Must explain why we were lied to, why they played the public for fools~

  9. White House is now saying not only did they need Libya's permission to send in military force but they were also afraid of an ambush-WTH?
They never got Pakistan's permission to go in and get bin laden so why did they need permission to go in and attempt save a US Ambassador and his staff?

  10. You can make an argument about the tactics used but you are totally off base claiming "he sat and did nothing" when you had individuals placing their lives at risk going into a live firefight. Then again, since I doubt anyone here is a security expert or has analyzed detailed reports, maybe you should keep the argument to yourself.

  11. LG1982, Obama, Biden, and Panetta sat in the Situation Room and DID NOTHING. Had they, they would never have had to make up the lie about the video. Wake up and watch the hearings. The State Dept personnel aren't all politically appointees and they are telling the truth. They are telling how security was repeatedly denied even after it was made aware that Stevens was on an al quaida hit list. They've said it was all done in an attempt to make Libya appear "normal." The "normal" being so Obama could brag that al quaida's been eradicated and Libya is on it's way to being a democracy.
Don't continue to make excuses and defend that SOB-4 Americans were brutally murdered and before being murdered were made to be sitting ducks just so Obama could propagate his lie.
US forces should have been sent to the area immediately from Italy when the first email arrived stating the diplomatic mission was under attack to officials at 4:05pm on Sept 11th. This is why troops are stationed all over the world isn't it?

  12. sure thing 422, you know better than the security pros that sent in the response team and the crew from Tripoli. Tell you what. You show us your credentials from organizing regional security operations and commanding several thousand units, and you might get a little more value for the 2 cents you've provided.

  13. LOL LG1982, "the security pros" including the team that was made to leave Libya are outraged over the handling of Libya and security issues. Again-WATCH THE HEARINGS-and you may learn something.
Obama screwed up royally to put it mildly and in the process 4 Americans lost their lives.
BTW-Who were these "security pros" that you are claiming sent in a response team from Tripoli? A link would help instead of lip service.

  14. Facts are stubborn things aren't they, LG1982.

  15. LG 1982 - you must be a pretty heavy duty kool aid drinker! It's like you are like Obama - grasping for straws to prove you point (that btw, is totally wrong)
You need to be more informed - stop listening to CNN and maybe you will learn something.

  16. try "grasping for the facts". While the argument can be made regarding the effectiveness of the security response, the facts clearly show that no one was just sitting around doing nothing. If you can't see this, you have clearly been blinded by partisan hatred.

  17. Watch the hearings LG1982. They sat around and did nothing and you better believe at this point in time they would be shouting it from the rooftops had they.
Latest is the admin's counter terrorism expert Matt Olsen who testified at the hearings has been reprimanded by the White House.

  18. The State Dept knew Libya was volatile and dangerous even before the prior 2 attacks on the mission. Most all diplomatic posts allow spouses and family members to live abroad with a foreign service officer and will even give priority for employment to a spouse of a memeber on an overseas tour to keep families together. Libya was one of the few posts where this was not allowed. Libya was labeled as a place of imminent danger and/or civil unrest, the WH and State Dept knew all along so subsequently the embassy, consulate and other outposts should have been heavily guarded and a Marine detachment in place. It's mind boggling....... Truth will come out because yes, not all State Dept personnel are political appointees.
