Will Mayor Ireton Ask Nice?
Salisbury News has been a place in which local citizens could come to in order to not only see the truth or the other side of everything else the local MSM published, we have also attempted to educate the public as to just who plays what roll in local government. Again, the Mayor is administrative and the Council is legislative.
Considering there is a Grant involved in this project and a multitude of other projects, the Mayor got himself in deep doo doo not that long ago, (if you'll recall) representing himself as the legislative body when they signed off on a FEMA Grant for 12 Firefighters.
Now, if you'll recall from the above titled article, the Council requested the Mayor's Office to go to Pollitt and strike a deal. While we worried if he'd do so in good faith, the Mayor, (behind the Council's backs) went ahead and moved forward with yet another, (administrative) Grant for this skate park without the Council's knowledge, AGAIN.
I am told the City Council Members were NOT aware he had made this move and he did so for the original location in which the Council pretty much said NO to.
Now, I'm not saying that Rick Pollitt said yes or no to jim but here's what I do know, the Council wasn't informed of the County's position either. A few County Council Members thought it was a nice idea but didn't have the background knowledge to know if it was possible.
Ladies & Gentlemen, I truly do not understand Mayor Jim Ireton and his ways. It would seem he has a habit of doing the opposite of the Council's wishes and produce Press Releases in order to attempt to make the City Council look bad, or a "Council of No's".
Your local media publishes whatever the Mayor wishes and quite frankly you are not seeing the truth and or both sides.
Jim Ireton is unhealthy for Salisbury and that's all there is to it. He has no interest in any kind of unity. His hatred towards Terry Cohen and Debbie Campbell quite frankly is sickening. He is following the lead of the former Tilghman Administration and he/they desperately want YOU to believe it's all the Council's fault. They want Debbie Campbell removed from the Council and they want things back to the way they had it when Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart and Gary Comegys were in office.
As your next Mayor I would never pull such stunts. I want and encourage the input and wisdom of this Council's experience. I will RESPECT the fact that the Mayor's position is administrative and not legislative. The Council will be fully aware of where the Mayor's Office is heading and I will seek the advice and encouragement of the City Council.
It's not Joe Albero's election to lose, it's the citizen's election to lose.
I can't wait to get a mayor with an understanding of how local gov't should work.
ReplyDeleteWhat is wrong with this man? He road Debbie Campbell's coattails into office and now he hates her. Why does he hide everything from the council then slam them with a brick?
ReplyDeleteJoe, you might want to run this again tomorrow. A lot of folks have been out at various events today.
Didn't get back until half an hour ago myself and thought I would pop in before the wife and I got to dinner.
And monday night he will throw the kids & their dreams of a legal place to skate under the proverbial bus!
ReplyDeleteyour just going to get his silk panties in a wad again. I think he has a drinking problem , we all know he has a problem , just don't know how to fix it.
ReplyDeleteIf you think about it , why is he not teaching anymore? Do some investigating on that issue and you will open a can of worms.
Someone has paid for his services under the table. Typical crooked , illegal politician.
Jim Ireton doesn't think for himself. He is misguided by his campaign manager, Chuck Cook. Cook is also the handler for the lying councilwoman, Laura Mitchell. If Cook knows so much about government why doesn't he run for office instead of freeloading on the taxpayers dime?
ReplyDeleteNow having seen through the smoke and mirrors regarding the skate park, it appears the Mayor can not see the forest for the tree's. Even while my kids were growing up there was talk of a skate park. Since there was no facility where they could skate legally, I would take them to Cambridge to skate at a falling down industrial site. My kids have grown and gone and finally there is some momentum to accomplish the skate park goal. Yes there is a 15000 sqft site in the city. The park will require 14000 sqft EXCLUDING parking and any chance of expansion (1 acre is roughly 43,500 sqft). I now understand there is a potential of working a deal with the county to take ownership at no cost to the the city, of a 5 ACRE parcel WITH parking and expansion room available. So let's look at this situation with grown up and forward thinking eyes... Skating is as here in america is as natural as as baseball or riding a bike. We as residents of Salisbury have the opportunity to develop a Regional attraction to the city. Kids and families come to Salisbury to skate and spend their money right here in the city. They have the potential to develop competition events which will attract interest way beyond the tri-county area. This is not feasible on a 1/4 acre site. It is feasible on a 5 acre site that has vehicular access, overflow parking and no impact on a residential area.
ReplyDeleteSo why is the mayor against approaching the county with this proposal? Common sense and a true commitment to the growth and future of Salisbury should rule...not political posturing!
Some times people can't see the forrest for the trees and will vote for change, even if it's the wrong thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAs a citizen I won't support anyone who keeps Rick Hoppes and his wasteful spending in the position he is in. Rick Hoppes and Jim Ireton must go.

I agree 100% and I expect the elected city council to do something about it.

ReplyDeleteNot supporting one issue because you don't like the actions of another issue is what keeps this podunk little town here in the outhouse of Maryland.

Joe, are you saying he just used the skaters in a political game? Is he working against this new site? Were the people who live there included in all his meetings with the skate people?
ReplyDeleteI am just mixed up reading this, sorry.
Just on the park itself I guess I'd have to say that it's nice to have a little nature in the middle of town.
anonymous 3:23, just what in the hell are you talking about? Am I saying this or that, did you actually READ my Post? Look again, did I say or even suggest ANYTHING that you claim to be confused about?
ReplyDeleteYou must be on the Ireton campaign or a typicalliberal who twists anything they can to suggest what I've published is wrong.
Now, you are welcome to ask myOPINION on certain topics but I'll not spend any time with someone who atempts to put words in my mouth.
Try again.
Joe, sorry I offended you. I am not a liberal or on Ireton's side or trying to put words in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteI guess your main message is Ireton didn't act in good faith. Can't say I am surprised.
I sat in that work session and the Council in good faith asked the Mayor to work with the County Executive. It seemed clear to me that Ireton would not work in good faith due to how he responded and his body language. Yes, there was body language and sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Ireton moved forward with yet another Grant when he is NOT the legislative body should scre each and every one of you. He has NO respect for wat politics and elected officials mean.
The voters voted in a Council to make legislative decisions and the voters voted for Ireton to manae the admistrative portion of the City. Ireton has been spitting in the voters face as well as the Council's and that's all there is to it.
I'm extremely confident he will be voted out and I will be elected.
Once again the council is left in the dark until the last possible moment, when administration (mayor and job-imprisoned flunkies) spring on them that a site has been chosen and a grant approved by the state. No interest in what council might have to say, to have some vision other than to provide another dinky playground. Another opportunity squandered to create something with a future. Squandered in favor of using it as political hay.
ReplyDeleteKids and supporters, you've been had by the mayor. He only wants to carve another notch on his headboard to feather his way to Annapolis.

Hey Moron 1:13 PM that one "issue" you refer to has cost the tax payers of this podunk little town here in the outhouse of Maryland millions upon millions of dollars. He has been the ring leader with the latest fiasco of $2 Million dollars of free money for temporary fireman. A million fire boat, a million dollar haz mat truck, a brand new unneeded brush truck for station 1, a brand new unneeded air light truck for station 1, a million dollar ladder truck, a $15 million dollar fire station on a swamp. Need we go on? The ladder truck, brush truck, air light truck, fire boat and haz mat truck are rarely if ever used. You are an idiot and I am confident you are not a tax payer.
his campaign manager, Chuck Cook. Cook is also the handler for the lying councilwoman, Laura Mitchell
ReplyDeleteThanks, I finally know who chuck cook is.

Don't forget to get rid of John Tull while you are at it. As long as that butt kissing back stabber is still around Simpson is running the fire department.
I still say the best move is to let the county absorb the city functions and bypass all of this childishness.
