SAFER Grant Firefighters Join Salisbury
Mayor James Ireton, Jr. is pleased to announce the twelve (12) new S.A.F.E.R. grant approved
Firefighters/EMTs have begun employment with the Salisbury Fire Department. With the
assistance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Staffing for Adequate Fire and
Emergency Response Grants (S.A.F.E.R.) was created to provide funding directly to fire
departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase the number of
trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. The goal of S.A.F.E.R. is to
enhance the local fire Departments' abilities to comply with staffing, response, and operational
standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Thanks to the SAFER grant, our community will
receive the benefit of having a closed station reopen to its previous staffing level, as well as
increasing staffing throughout the Department over the next two (2) years. Never before in the
history of the Department has there been 12 Firefighter/EMTs hired at the same time and all
starting on the same day. All 12 firefighters will go through 2 weeks of intense training that will
introduce them to the City and Department’s policies, procedures and emergency operations. On
November 6, 2012 at 7:00pm, the Department will conduct a swearing-in ceremony to honor the
accomplishments of the 12 new employees. This ceremony will be held at the Salisbury Fire
Department’s Administrative Headquarters located at 325 Cypress Street, Salisbury, Maryland.
The public is strongly encouraged to attend. If you should have any questions, please contact
Assistant Chief Darrin Scott at 410-548-3120 for more information.
I love Salisbury and most all of its Firefighters.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, I am from the old school - (Clint Eastwood, Matt Dillon, John Wayne, Clark Gable) - era. And being from such era, in all good conscience I cannot fight fires under the leadership of Jim Ireton.
Maybe after Salisbury gets a new Mayor - (one with backbone and true grit) - then I'll reconsider. Until then - I hope Salisbury foregoes the grant.
Jim Ireton has proven to be an opportunist -- with no common sense. Face it, if he had any right mind, he would have hired a Fire Chief with some intelligence and experience to get our organization back on track. We had such a person in our line-up but IRETON let him go. (What a moron) Instead, he plays political football, pleases a few with a grant (NOT OUR OWN MONEY), and teases us with empty promises. Perhaps he can visit OBAMA in Chicago come January 20, 2013 for a domestic job!
