Md. Lawmaker Alston Suspended After Taking Plea Deal

A Maryland delegate has been suspended from office following her plea agreement on two sets of criminal charges, but her lawyers say they think she could be reinstated in time for the General Assembly’s next session in January.
Delegate Tiffany Alston, Prince George’s Democrat, is now suspended without pay or benefits, according to an opinion issued Wednesday by the state attorney general's office and sent to House Speaker Michael E. Busch, Anne Arundel Democrat.
Mrs. Alston pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that she used $3,500 in campaign funds to pay for her wedding, settling that case as well as one from June in which she was found guilty of using $800 in state funds to pay an employee at her law firm.

  1. What have I been tellin' ya?! They don't care what "we the people" think criminals being in the legislature. WE get banned from jobs and possessing guns for non violent MISDEMEANORS (by the same legislators!), but apparently, you can still be a member of the legislature. They have NO shame and worse, no accountability. Its good to be king. Not so good to be a serf.

  2. Suspended? She should have been fired! Any other place of employment would have fired her as soon as she was caught stealing. So she gets a month vacation without pay. What is to stop the next person from stealing? I mean when they get caught they just get an unpaid vacation then they can go right back to work. This is crazy.
