After students have been saying “we are hungry” due to new nutrition guidelines for school lunches that limit calories and increase fruits and vegetables, a group in Abilene, Kan. participated in a three-day protest against it.
The Salina Journal reports students at Abilene Senior High School against the calorie limitations in the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which was signed into law by the president, refused to buy school lunches, thinking it would have financial impacts that would speak louder than words.
“The biggest way to get into someone’s head is to mess with their pockets,” freshman Gehrig Geissinger said, according to the Journal.
Good, don't buy tax-payer funded lunch. Starve or bring your own. Schools can adjust purchasing/food costs and save some money. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.
ReplyDeletebut we must feed the children, the school is the only place these poor children can get breakfast, lunch and maybe even dinner, we must give them take home meals for the weekend and now the kidsw cannot wait to get back to school after summer break to start learning again (oh i was mistaken not to learn to eat). don't complain children mochelle says this is what you must eat. welcome my friends to the world of communism. stop complaining we let it happen.
ReplyDelete812, can you please tell me how it is "communist" for the gov. to decide what foods they are providing on the gov. dime? No one is inspecting anyone's fridge at home and there is nothing in the WH recommendations barring kids from bringing their own lunch.
ReplyDeleteI don't want the government in my wallet or on my dinner plate!
ReplyDeleteNot all school lunches are free! Too much entitlement mentality. Remember when students had to pay for a hot lunch at school. They still do. Not everyone gets government assistance. I have to give my son money for lunch at school. It is not all on the government dime.

ReplyDeleteplease refer to the case in north carolina where the childrens lunch from home was inspected and taken away because it did not include the "right" food as prescribed by mochelle. the point is if you have kids feed them yourself. this country is not built on depending on the government to provide everything. school is not there to feed your kids. it is becoming that because we as a people are allowing it to.
