Its Time For The Eastern Shore To Secede From The State Of Maryland

Ladies & Gentleman, Salisbury News for years has been trying desperately to educate you on the liberal agenda in Maryland and the possible upcoming damage forthcoming.

I'm talking about SB236. We tried telling you what this bill would do to property owner and especially Farmers but like everything else, the bill has passed and at this very moment the County Council is being schooled as to exactly what is about to take affect on January 1, 2013.

The bottom line is this. As of January 1, if the County does not adopt SB236, property owners will only be allowed to develop ONE home per 25 acres. There are four tiers to this bill but even if the Council adopts this bill the most a property owner can build is ONE home per 20 acres in an agricultural district.

As for the Farmers, say goodbye to Farm Preservation. When a Farmer goes to get a loan it will be based on "best use value". Also think about what is now going to happen to property value. It will dramatically drop large parcel property owners value in a big way.

People say, "be careful what you wish for". Now maybe you'll understand why we at Salisbury News have been working so hard to educate the public on what these bills actually mean and what our leaders are doing to us.

Some call us radicals but as a god friend of mine has been saying in recent years, we'd be much better off under communist leadership. The liberal newspapers only tell you what they want you to hear. Hence the entire reason we chose to create Salisbury News.

We need to start coming together, not just the Eastern Shore but as an entire state. Voting in liberal leaders who refuse to understand the impact bills like this will do to destroy our way of life, our property values and our future generations stability continue to drive us into poverty.

This is a real shame. Turn on PAC 14 right now and watch them deliberate on this matter.

UPDATE: There are four tiers to this bill. Tier 1 are properties hooked up to City water and sewer. Tier 2 are properties for future development to hook up to municipal water and sewer. Tier 3 are subdivisions that have their own water and sewer plant and tier 4, (which is what's important to Wicomico County) is one home per 20 to 25 acres.

What you need to know is this. The remaining UNDEVELOPED land in Wicomico County is about 90% agricultural, HELLO!

  2. I absolutely agree. A secession would be justified in light of what the Maryland General Assembly - (western shore Delegate representation) - has done to our community. They have stripped our breathren not only from our land, but also our pocketbooks. They have literally pick-pocketed our wallets right from under our noses.

7 House subdivisions - irregardless of the amounts of land is totally unacceptable. I say secede and the sooner the better.

  3. I say do not adopt any of the State Tiered maps - and then give the Maryland General Assembly our Declaration of Independence.

The poor farmer doesn't even know what has happened - and he really is the one that is in for a rude awakening. Especially, since their is no more need for an Agricultural Preservation program - as the State has now found a legal way to circumvent the whole payout process.

  4. I certainly don't think that we should take away a property owner's rights. Reasonable zoning changes have to be dealt with, but this seems pretty extreme.

If anything positive were to come out of it, perhaps it could make farming an easier business to enter in to.

On my road is a farm with 350 acres to it. The farmer has done a revenue sharing agreement with the family that owns the farm. He gets a house, owns the equipment, and splits the net with the owners.

He's also a plumber, and he uses his combine and large trucks at other farms. He definitely stays busy.

He tells me that with all this going on, he makes a comfortable living but he's not rich. I asked what it would take land-wise to just work your own farm, and he said that in Talbot County you really can't afford to buy a farm at current land prices and work the land full-time.

A young man I know recently graduated college. He desperately wants to be a farmer. He's worked his family farm since being a teenager. He took over a bit of land from his father to grow his own produce and run a produce stand in the summer time. He can't get access to enough capital to start his own farm - the up-front costs are too high given the projected cash flow of a decent piece of land. He took a different job, and has to wait until his father wishes to retire.

We need new farmers who care about the people that they are feeding. Otherwise, we're going to get those factory farms who will only grow GMO garbage.

If the end result is that young people cant afford to become farmers. So if this bill fixed the problem, I could see an upside to this legislation.

  5. Let me get one thing STRAIGHT,

These politicians ARE NOT, I repeat, ARE NOT OUT OF TOUCH or STUPID or UNEDUCATED...

ALL THIS STUFF IS BEING ENGINEERED, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the american people and the people of sby and wicomico county and maryland who are to blame and are at fault, because you are uneducated, you don't do research, you listen to anything anyone person tells you...

Get off your high horse and start blaming the real person to blame, YOU... ALL OF YOU...

YOU ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN, NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU...

  7. We truly must secede in order to survive....and not just because of this matter!

  8. Baltimore city, Montgomery County and Prince Georges County are the reason we are a blue state. For all intents and purposes Maryland has conceded in the Presidential election. Maryland will always be a blue state as long as you have the likes of Steny Hoyer, Martin O'Malley the 2 Mikes and so many others making decisions that favor the crooks in the 3 named areas. We don't stand a chance down here. Sen Rich Colburn has tried without success to secede the Eastern Shore. Maybe now people will pay attention and support him.

  9. Reference to 2:50 Posting

I know Senator Colburn sponsored a bill to secede - and maybe now the people will think it over seriously.

This is the biggest land grap government confiscation that has taken place to date. O'Malley has been one of the most divisive governors that our state has ever seen. To think he is serious about running for President - lord help us.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I hope the County Council holds a hearing on this subject - I'll bet you my bottom dollar that you'll see people taking secession more seriously. The State has gone way beyond the bounds of being reasonable and our Constitution allows us 'Petition for a redress of our grievances'

If they do nothing then we definately have a right to secede and form our own State. I am quite certain that Worcester, Dorchester, Somerset, Talbot and Queen Anne's will be with us.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree - Wicomico, Dorchester, Somerset, Talbot, Queen Annes, would all be better off under communist rule. Look at china - case-in-point - China's GDP is still running double digits while ours here in america is a paultry 1.2%. We absolutely would be better off under communist rule. What we have now is a form of government that has turned deaf ears to the average Joe Blow.

As much as I hate to admit it - a Communist form of government could not be any worse than what we are currently experiencing here in Maryland.

    1. 4:06 must be insane, if you think you would be better under the Communist rule. Do you actually realize what you asking for? If that is what you think is best for you, you can leave for Cuba, China or Vietnam now. For folks who live down here, it's just time to Fire Every Crooked Politician out of Annapolis, starting this November. That's better than to secede, at least for now.

  12. Begin right here with the County Council. Vote out all the Democrats including Rick P. who is right up O'Malley's butt. This must start on the local level.

  13. 406-Not sure where you pulled your numbers from, but China isn't running anywhere near double digit GDP.

As for the Shore seceeding, we have all heard these tired rants for decades. Certainly, there are two different perspectives in play. I grew up on the Shore, still call it home, but happen to live in PG County. Seceeding does what exactly? Where would the Shore get the necessary revenue to operate? It'd be a drain on the country, and I'm a fiscal conservative. Look at the dreadful fiscal decisions being made in your backyard, and have been for decades. Hell, just look at that post talking about the Grumman property. This is nothing new. The good ol network is the only thing that'd be elected on the Shore. People on the Shore are stupid enough to go along with those guys, no matter how bad they screw you. I've seen it time and time again. Rant and rave about the good ol' boys, then go buy Purdue at the store and go out for drinks at Brew. The jokes on you.

  14. Folks this is pure UN agenda 21. Research on YouTube while you still can.

  15. 4:56 this is 4:08. That's where I'am coming from. We must start on the local level. We here on the Shore can no longer survive our way of life as we've known it if we allow the Democrats and environmentalist control our lives. I'am concerned about our environment as well, but let's not go out of control with unjust regulations.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You need to also go back to Bill McCain. An appraiser who said that down zoning (or reducing development rights) has no effect on value. Really? Then why do you make adjustments for development rights in your appraisals. This falls into the same category! REVOLT!

  17. Response to 5:21

I think a rebellion has already begun. Take a look at the tone of these postings. And most people are still not even aware of what SB 236 did to them. The ramifications are disastrous for our native population.

O'Malley is one of the worse leaders I have witnessed in my lifetime here on the eastern shore.

And as for the Communist comments - from some of the Maryland Legislative decisions I have witnessed locally - how can Communism be any worse than the repressive form of government that we are getting out of Annapolis.

    ReplyDelete
  18. None of this legislation is intended AGAINST Eastern Shore property owners. It's intended to be FOR Western Shore developers. These developers are who fund the campaigns of those in Annapolis. Just look at how school construction gets approved and where the developers are based that build them. The real revolt needs to start at the ballot box.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Response to 5:41 - communism

On a personal note - I believe that Maryland's form of governance is worse than communism. All we need now is a new name to help put a tag on this repressive form of governance.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

  20. Commerades, first they impose the police state and now take your property rights away one law at a time but the majority votes democrat. If you dont see whats happening you need to read history.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Eastern Shore only has 17% perkable land, but the enviromentalists would like that number to be 0 and they control the state.

    ReplyDelete
  22. O'Gay Omalley would freak out if we left Maryland. The taxes we pay support all those lazy dudes that Chill all day and party all night.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As a landowner and farmer, I welcome these changes as I am tired of competing with developers to purchase farmland. As for decreasing the value of my land holdings, I don't really care. If you are really a farmer you don't want to sell land anyway. Most of the "farmers" complaining don't farm anymore and want to get top dollar. They don't care what the area looks like once its all developed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rural Maryland, both Eastern and Western, should secede and join Virginia. Making Virginia a solid red state with even more delegates. Even if O'Malley could manage to hold the State together, it would draw national attention to our cause and hurt his run for President. The last thing that we need is for O'Malley to scr*w the Country like he has scr*w*d Maryland.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The life saving of farm families is held in their land. Why don't we take all of the money from the State retirement fund and put it towards saving the bay and see how they like it! That would get the Mike's attention.

  26. Response to 7:16 Posting

I am a farmer to and have much acreage. I often thought about developing the land and have run the thought process through my head many times. Thinking I could get at least 2 acres per home or 3 acres - I often thought I would be worth a fortune. Now - under our new governance - my one 45 acre parcel would only yield one home. Thus the most I could get in the current market would be about $60,000 to $100,000 if that. Now you mean to tell me that full implementation of SB-236 doesn't devalue my land? You cannot be a farmer - as any farmer worth his salt knows that the government has basically taken your land. You may till it, harvest it, but you no longer own it. In fact, you would be better off to join the rest of independence card crowd and not till it at.

  27. Welcome to the People's Republic of Maryland.

  28. Personally, I'd love to purchase 20-25 acres of cheap land and build a cabin, dig a hole for a pit toilet, install a barrel at the bottom of a cutter drain pipe for water, shoot as many deer as I want and gow my own food and live happily ever after. Keep all those damn westerners out of Delmarva.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sorry 8:11 pit toilets are out of question and if you think you can build a cabin without a septic system, you need to check the regs...the right to do that was lost years ago.

In fact, I believe now you will find that your cabin needs a sprinkler system; so that better be a darn big rain barrel!

But this goes right to the point, your dream of a cheap cabin is gone as the result of over-regulations. But don't worry, under smart growth and PlanMaryland you're supposed to live in an apartment anyway, whether you like it or not! The tricky part is getting a shot on a nice buck off of you apartment stoop.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 7:49

You may have misunderstood my position. I agree that thus will devalue your land. My point is you bought farmland, have paid ag property taxes, and feel you are entitled to residential value If you want residential value you should be taxed that way. Can't gabber your cake and eat it too.

  31. Time to start all tractors and loaders and bring them up the Rt.50 and park them all in Downtown Annapolis to show those corrupted bastards we mean business and we will not stand for this! And if you have some chicken sh@t, bring it too.

  32. 8:46 nailed it. This is agenda 21 legislation directed at the state and local level. It's about control.

  37. SB236 is an absolute disaster for us here on the eastern shore. No growth policy - then how are we going to provide homes for our kids?

O'Malley is one of the worse governors I have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I cannot recant how many times Joe has warned Marylanders about the misrepresentation that has been going on in Annapolis. I know because I visit this site three and four times a day and I have read previous warnings.

Now - they - (Maryland General Assembly) - literally rip the food away from our tables and still the public sits back and does virtually nothing. I agree - the time to secede is long overdue.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 7:16 its about telling you what you can do with your own land, dont you people get this!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Farmers don't have to drive to Annapolis with their tractors to be heard. Let them wait for Memorial day holiday and they should block all roads and hiways headed to Ocean City that weekend. That would draw some attention.
