Tax Penalty To Hit Nearly 6M Uninsured People

Nearly 6 million Americans _ significantly more than first estimated_ will face a tax penalty under President Barack Obama's health overhaul for not getting insurance, congressional analysts said Wednesday. Most would be in the middle class.

The new estimate amounts to an inconvenient fact for the administration, a reminder of what critics see as broken promises.

The numbers from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office are 50 percent higher than a previous projection by the same office in 2010, shortly after the law passed. The earlier estimate found 4 million people would be affected in 2016, when the penalty is fully in effect.

  1. If Obama is reelected the number will be higher ,If Romney is elected I plan to hire and buy some new vehicles,if Obama is reelected I will be cutting hours and laying off employees.

  2. Is this tax he's implimented per person? So say a single mother with 2 children works at Walmart and makes approx $20,000 a year. If she doesn't purchase health insurance than does she pay the almost $700 tax times 3?
I believe this is the way it is going to work. It's going to have a hugh ripple effect with more people having to get government entitlements such as renters assistance and food stamps. Also alot less money in people's (esp the lowest of the low income bracket) pocket to spend.
How can anyone like this? This is going to affect the poorest of our poor people like nothing ever before and with gas prices and the ripple effect that has had on everything we purchase there is alot less money going to charities such as Salvation Army who helps these people stay afloat.
It's more that due that we start questioning Obama's intellect level because he doens't appear to have any academic or reasoning abilities. In other words he acts before he thinks things out.

  3. It is beyound me how anyone can believe a word Obama says. Eveything that has been said would happen with this peace of crap health care law has come to light. America better wake up.

  4. ANOTHER lie. Another broken promise. "If you make less than $250,000, your taxes will NOT go up". Remember THAT one? He SAYS whatever his particular audience wants to hear. Then, does the opposite.

  5. Remember this scene from the movie "Hunt for Red October"? Quote: " I,m a POLITICIAN. That means I,m a liar and a cheat and when I,m not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollypops. But it also means I keep all my options open." Does anybody not believe this fact about politicians?

  6. I saw from day 1 when Obama was running for senate way back when that he was a pathologcial liar and master of doublespeak. I'm not fooled ever unlike 47% of the voters. I'm way too smart. He had only ever won office because of the reduced intellect capacity of those that vote for him, thanks to the community organizers.
He's surrounded with the aura that if you can't dazzle them with brilliance than baffle them with BS.

  7. The bottom line is anyone making over $9500/per year will have to purchase insurance or will be penalized (taxed)a minimum of just under $700 which will be deducted from any tax money you would be receiving back. Alot of people can kiss their tax return money goodbye.

  8. And half of the American voters plan to vote for Obama again??? Things will be much worse if he is re-elected. Better start telling people to stop watching the major news networks and listening to their biased reporting which leaves out much info that citizens need to know. Like the truth!

  9. obama is a schmuck and has been a complete failure. If you intend to vote for him..again.. you'll receive just exactly what you bargained for. Go get a job.

  10. Now let's not forget, Romney had a hand in putting this plan together, after all it's modeled after the plan he implemented in Massachussets!
Romney's replacement of Obamacare would still have the penalty for those not purchasing health insurance.
They think the numbers of people on government assistance is high now, wait until all those who won't be able to afford to work (because of the health care fines) go on welfare! It'll happen. I don't have insurance now because I cannot AFFORD it, not because I don't want it. I'd LOVE to have coverage but the rates are just way to high for me to pay! Sure, they have to cover our pre-existing conditions, but the policies are unaffordable!

  11. And just for the record the mantra that was repeated ad nauseum by the dopey Obamanistas "we won't be denied healthcare" is untrue and is not addressed anywhere in Obamacare. It's healthcare COVERAGE you will not be denied you bunch of losers.
But once again....What can we expect from a group that idolizes "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" Perlosi?

  12. why should I have to pay more because you refuse to carry health insurance? And the 47% on the dole will get free health insurance from the government. so just those working will pay. Welcome to the pogrom comrade!

  13. 10:03 anyone who makes over $9500 a year will be required to either purchase health insurance or pay the penalty. Alot of that 47% are going to have to fork over some money. It's about the only good thing obama's done. Making the entitlement crowd pay something. The only bad thing is the ripple effect.

  14. 8:44 Your deluding yourself, even if Romney is elected the health care law will stand. He is not going to change it one bit.

  15. Thank you Comrade Obama for the "Super Expensive Health Care Act" which will kill jobs faster than a democrat thought possible. They don't want us working for ourselves or non-union companies. To them, all jobs should be either government or union, preferably both. That's where Obamas "you didn't create that" speech came from. He has never created anything but b.s. and can't stand the idea of others profiting from something that they created and worked hard on to succeed.
