Mayor Ireton Considers A Veto On Pay Raises To Police

Thank You Jim Ireton, for making the race for Mayor that much easier, FOR ME. I received a tip this morning about an article published in today's Daily Times referencing this veto HERE.

Mayor Ireton continues to show his immaturity simply because the Council didn't follow his instructions to a tee. While it states in the article that a veto would be a "symbolic gesture anyway", Ireton continues to prove his hatred towards women by throwing yet another hissy fit.

Ladies & Gentlemen, the Mayor's job is administrative and the Council's job is legislative. The Mayor did his job by proposing an increase. The Chief asked for additional funds BECAUSE THEY NEED IT. The Council did their job and approved the funding. Then Jim Ireton stepped in again and showed what he's truly all about.

If you think for one second this Council is not fiscally responsible, well, I'd say you have some screws loose. While the entire Council is 100% democrats, you have never seen a more fiscally responsible Council throughout the history of Salisbury.

Ireton stated, “So, no, I have not decided whether or not to sign the budget amendment,” according to the Daily Times article. After Ireton made his statement to the Daily Times he then realized just how screwed up it was and called them back later that day and said, he had no intention of blocking the popular measure. Rather, he said he wanted to spend a day going over the potential budget impacts with top city officials. No matter what this Council does, Jim Ireton is just not happy. Well, guess what Jim, that's life. The Citizens elected this legislative body to do a job and in my honest opinion they're doing a damn good job.

Let me offer you a piece of advice, learn to pick your battles. Public Safety is #1, especially in the City of Salisbury where crime is through the roof. Perhaps you might want to consider my proposal with the Salisbury Zoo and turn it over to the Zoo Commission for $1.00 a year. Use your head for once Jim and FIND ways to make City finances work. By the way, many municipalities across America have done this already and or they actually SOLD their Zoo's to private organizations.

Perhaps, IF Mayor Ireton hadn't demanded that the SPD drop everything for two weeks to investigate an alleged phone spoof, (which was NOT even a crime) the SPD wouldn't be in such a desperate position. Perhaps IF the Mayor realized the call came from a Delaware phone number and was received when I was in Delaware it should have been turned over to the Delaware State Police instead. Nah, that would mean the laws are actually different in Delaware and one of his friends would have gone to Jail. No matter what is said or done the Salisbury Police Department had no business investigating that call from the very beginning. How convenient.

I'll see you in April Jim.

  1. If the Mayor had bothered to attend the work sessions (meetings that are open to the public) he would already know that the city can pay for this. Instead, he will hold a meeting (behind closed doors) with all department heads to talk about where the money will come from. Good grief, Jim, you have a smart, sincere council that wants to work FOR the city. For heaven's sake, stop the political stunts and work with them. We would all be better off.

  5. Actually, I'm wrong in this article. I started out by saying the Mayor did his job and the Council did theirs. Not true. The Mayor did NOT do his job because the Chief asked for these increases during budget time. The Mayor refused to move her request forward.

  8. 9:09-I don't want to see him come apart at the seams.Maybe he can take Joe's lead for the remaining time he is in office and conform somewhat. There is too much time between now and the election. My concern is how much damage he can do while still in office.

  9. Yeah, the Mayor is an idiot and he'll be gone for sure next term, but what bothers me is how does the City (and County) always seem to "discover" unspent money from the previous year? I know my household doesn't have as much money coming in and out, but when there is extra money I KNOW IT! Does the City and County not keep their books balanced and up-to-date? I know the County finance and accounting department is full of a bunch of overpaid, salty employees with a new "must have" accounting system (MUNIS) that was supposed to reduce workforce, time and costs (but in actuality increase all three), but wouldn't you think that they would notice such considerable surpluses almost immediately?

Don't get me wrong here, I thoroughly believe that SPD should receive raises - I have a few friends over there that I KNOW are waaaaay underpaid. If Ireton has a problem with that then he is purely an absolute idiot. I am very disappointed in myself to say that I voted for him...

  11. I still think you should sue the SPD for getting your phone records.

  12. Whoever it is that's advising this mayor isn't in touch with reality and the mayor is left hanging in the wind, looking like a fool. How can he still say he's doing what the voters sent him to do? Does anybody remember what it was he promised to do?

  17. From your last paragragh I still can't believe that the SPD could even get your phone records based on the fact you where the victim.

  18. What did happen to the Guy they said made the call?
