Verizon Phone Bill

Meanwhile, back in the average home, Verizon has very quietly just increased my phone bill by $5.00/month ( a 10% increase) and an increase in the taxes. Every time I pay bills, they are higher than the last one (r/e tax included.) How does the government come up with a less than 2% annual increase in the cost of living? Somebody is lying to us.....

  1. Like everything else, they are lying to us. They are afraid of what would happen if we knew the truth.

  2. IIRC,

One of the federal taxes on phone service was instituted to help pay for the Spanish-American War (think 1898, folks). Phone service at the time was a luxury so it was a luxury tax.

In time more folks got phones and they ceased being luxuries but the tax never ended, although the war was over in a jiffy.

The 'soak the rich' diversion is not new, just updated courtesy of the teleprompter.

I've inquired around; there's still no free lunch.

Sunset provisions are a starting point.

  3. I wasn't there, but historians tell that the INCOME TAX was approved as a "temporary" tax to pay for world war #1....

  5. it's easy, years ago they figured out what it would cost to buy the same basket of groceries, but eventually the steak cost to much so they swapped it for hamburger, but as with all things the hamburger just kept going up in price so they swapped it for a can of dogfood. and now you know the rest of the story!

  6. Income tax was implemented 4 years prior to WWI. Were they trying to pay for it in advance?!?

  7. They have to keep raising the rates so we can pay for those free phones people are getting.
