More Construction Complaints Around Salisbury, Is The Mayor That Clueless Or Out Of Touch?

Joe,

Heard through the grapevine that the major construction companies are fed up with the city of Salisbury. These people lay concrete curbing, etc and if don't suite the city they make them tear it up and do it again at the contractors cost.

Joe, wouldn't you figure if the company was following the blue print it would be carved in stone. Same goes for the new CVS drug store on corner of 13 and college ave., same for the south division constructing area.

Sounds like the city people are throwing their weight around. the construction companies are vowing not to bid on city contracts...nit good for our city.

Publishers Notes: Ever since I announced I was considering running for Mayor I have received several complaints about Public Works. In fact, some companies are saying if I don't get elected they are going to pack their things and get the hell out of Salisbury. One company stopped construction of a major addition to their building and also said if I'm not elected they're going to take it down and just leave.

Why do you think I'm taking this race so seriously. This weekend I was a Guest Speaker at two events and people are so fed up it isn't funny. Salisbury desperately needs a new leader who understands how businesses work. A leader who respects their interests and will have an OPEN DOOR POLICY to everyone who needs to be heard.

I'm going to win and I'm going to make some massive changes. Ireton knows his days are numbered. Ireton knows I'm a much smarter businessman with nothing but EXPERIENCE. Ireton isn't going to run because we're going to embarrass him too much with the final numbers. Ireton doesn't want the PUBLIC TO GRADE HIM and that's why he'll run away with his tail between his legs.

  1. It is Public Works job to mke sure tht infrastructure built by a private devloper is built to specification for reasons. One reason is to make sure tht what is being put in, functions as intended. Another reason is that WE will be footing the bill to fix hat private industry has failed to put in correctly down the road. I think if people realized the shortcuts that private industry takes when building infrastructure, they would be pissed. I personally know of a subdivision on the west side of the county, Adventure Farms, tht has had continuous problems with stormwater pipes. It has cost the county taxpayers thousands of dolllars to fix what was built during the boom when all the developers were worried about was slapping it together to get on to the next dollar. We shoul be gla that public works is on top of it so we aren't left holding the bag. What if there happened to be an ADA issue....and it wasn't caught? I bet that this post would be titled "Public Works Fails to do its job". I say hold their feet to the fire. This is what the difference is between government and private sector. Private is in it for a profit at any cost.

  2. Joe, I don't mean any disrespect by saying this, but if you try to run the City like a business, you willl fail. I think that, if you win, you will realize that. Sure there are common sense managerial aspects that can be implemented, but the city just can't raise the cost of its product in order to break even. Business cn do that. With all the mandates from the state and feds, you will see that it is much more difficult to try to do more with the same. Regarding this post, construction projects have approved plans. These plans are prepared by private engineering firms and reviewed by city personnel. Many time, situations arise that the plans wont work for one reason or another and they require a change order. It is not reality to simply say follow the plans. It is the job of public works inspectors to point out these problems that arise and adjust. After all, it is the developer tht is in it for money. These mistkes could end up costing the city in a big way down the road if they aren't addressed.

  3. Oh, what is the specific nature of this complaint? what was the reason given by the city to require the sidewalk/curb/gutter or whatever to be redone?

  6. joe, you're f'd if you win, you know that right? Think all those government employees that sit on their asses and do nothing all day you know the ones who owe their jobs to friends of your opponents, aren't going to thwart your every move and make your life a living hell? Not sure if you can fire them for ineptitude, gonna be interesting, if you don't clean house fast!Good luck!
