Dry Spell

Every so often we come across a period in which local news somewhat dries up and that's exactly what we've been dealing with this past week.

Someone contacted me yesterday and said, what's up with the local news, there's not much of it. As if I should just manufacture news and information. I'll leave that up to the local MSM, I'm not doing it just because things are quiet.

Let me remind some of you that Salisbury News is FREE. We're not bringing in tens of thousands of dollars each day selling newspapers. You are welcome to go to the top right hand corner and click on the red box with an "X" in it and that will immediately take you to our Complaint Department.

Then think about what you'd do every day IF I decided I have had enough. If my Wife and Grandson have had enough. If the death threats are worth it any more. If we want to keep paying lawyers to represent us in Court to protect OUR rights so that you may enjoy FREE SPEECH.

I'm on my 8th year of doing this for the community. I'd say I've paid my dues while newcomers come along wanting to jump in and ride the Salisbury News wave. Yesterday another local Blogger called it quits. Not that anyone will mind, it's not easy doing what we do. John Robinson is getting into the game this week with a new newspaper here in Salisbury. Of course he's hired Sarah Lake to run it, the woman who was fired from the Daily Times for her involvement with the alleged phone spoof. The woman who always sided with the Mayor and published a LOT of false information about City Council Members. This should be quite interesting to watch.

Will John Robinson try to be like Joe Albero used to be? Will he stir the pot just to get a name for himself? Is he prepared for multiple lawsuits out of the gate? One thing is for sure, this business isn't an easy one and the day that a Newspaper tries to act like a Blog is the day they'll get into deep trouble, (just as the Daily Times has recently). Print media isn't afforded the same freedom a Blog has and hopefully Mr. Robinson knows the difference.

In the mean time, my hat is tipped to Mr. Robinson for doing what MOST are not willing to do, open a new business in Salisbury and hire several people to run it. Hopefully we'll get a newspaper that isn't one sided like the Daily Times.

Mr. Robinson assures me they will be fair and balanced. Many have stated that is impossible, between John and Sarah being in charge. Many have suggested this paper will quickly turn into an Eastern Shore National Enquirer. One thing is for sure, John Robinson is unpredictable. In this day and age, newspapers are on their way out. If he sticks to his promise and delivers a quality paper, the Daily Times is done. If he doesn't, his paper will fail a miserable and expensive death.

While newspaper answer to their customers, (subscribers and advertisers) Salisbury News answers to no one. This is the main reason we have survived. We'll see how others survive in time. Have a great day Ladies & Gentlemen.

  1. Buck up old man. Take a vacation or something. You would be missed if not around.

I can only imagine the bs you go through each day. Couldn't blame you if you did shuck it all, but you would leave a void.

    Peace man.

  2. Robinsons paper will be one sided. Most honorable people have already dealt with Sarah Lake and refuse to talk to her. You can't tell both sides when one side doesn't participate.

  3. Newspapers are on their way out at record speed. Anyone who has ever read them are either dead, dying or in a nursing home.
Blogs such as Sby News are the total future. Blog owners such as yourself Joe, are the innovators who were able to vision this change from print to internet and got in early on this highly successful new way of reporting.

  5. I can't imagine what would happen to Salisbury without this blog. What has already happened is bad enough. The only hope for a brighter future is a change in leadership, not only here, but nationally as well. Thanks for all you've done, and good luck as the next Mayor.

  6. Joe you do a good job each and every day and I appreciate all you do. Lets hope Mr. Robinson can be fair and balanced like you. What will this new paper be called - the R & L Gazette? or some such thing?
