Update. This has formally passed

  1. Great a bunch of self serving employees that arn't worried about the hidden requirements when you take a 2 year grant.

  2. Not one fo those self serving employees are city residents or city tax payers. Shame on the City Council for approving this. I will make sure my family, friends and neighbors do everything they can to vote out Debbie Campbell and Jim Ireton in the next election. They caved in to pressure from those wannabe firemen. Shame, Shame, Shame!!

  3. Nothing is HIDDEN with Grants. They are simply blindly evaluated as to their total costs.

  4. Ireton flushed Campbell not once but twice.

  5. If Cohen had supported Campbell, Spies would have joined them to vote NO to this BS.

  6. As a tax payer this makes me sick.

  10. This is the new modern America, they must not of got the memo. To funny, its called denial. Your pop-pop got threw and your dad did the same, but I think you all are a day late and damn dollar short. But they said if we did this we would be OK, yeah they did didnt they. Told me the same damn thing.

  11. I guess in two years no one will be there to see what damage they have done.

  12. Do you people understand fire station 2 has been closed durning the day with no career staffing for almost 2 years? That leaves fire stations 1 & 16 career/day staffing when volunteers are less available to handle all the calls during peak hours. So when all hell breaks loose as it always does that leaves no coverage forcing volunteers to be alerted to answer emergency calls which takes time. My understanding is the grant will place day staffing back at fire station 2 during those peak daytime hours.

  13. America promised to much some day you have to pay the piper.

  14. In a piece of my world there is nothing more important, to them its tax payer money there is no piper so they think. Trust me there is always a piper.

  15. Thats the man that shows up when the money is due and he dont feel or care like you do. He is numb and cold and old. One day America is going to face the piper.

  16. Hard to believe that Ireton and Campbell were once joined-at-the-hip allies. What happened?

  18. 9:47 I am a city voter and will continue to support Campbell. She was the only one willing to speak her mind. She asked how much money the city had and NONE of the other council members would support her. The Mayor is a liar and I want to know where my tax money is.

  19. Wasnt that old George Jones song called FIRE...

  20. So all of you want your fed tax dollars to go off someplace else? As a city taxpayer I want my money spent here, not in someother town or city. I wonder if some of you don't just hate everything just to have something to do. I don't like being taxed anymore than anyone else but it's going somewhere like it or not which I don't. I'd much rather have it spent on me and my property. Don't complain about your own city entities getting you money to protect your property. Complain about the taxes being to much in the first place or about the liberals giving your money to people who can but won't work. That's what really sucks.

  21. Please tell me how the vote went? I want to make sure I blame the right people. I will make sure the ones that voted for this grant will not get re-elected.

    ReplyDelete
  22. isn't this grant just temporary? why would we do this if it will be taken away shortly and then we're going to be scrambling around for more cash to keep these people on?

what am i missing here? as usual, we're not thinking this through. bad move on the part of the city government. political, nothing more. so sad...

  23. So what is Sta 2 is unmanned during the day? If we get lucky, every building on Church St will burn to the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 11:17, Nobody voted against it. If someone abstained, it is as good as a yes. That means that they are just too weak to actually vote yes or no. A form of posturing.

  25. There was a hot time in the old town laat night.

Who was the fire fighter that spoke and ripped the nay-sayers on the Council to shreds?

You are a paid fireman and not a city tax payer.

  28. This was a political battle between Jim Ireton and the City Council and Ireton won. The weaklings caved in and it will show during the election. This $1.5 million dollar mistake will not be forgotten Terry and Tim!

  29. So we just hire them and tell them up front that this is a 2 year position, then they will be fired without the ability to collect unemployment. Let's see how many will sign up for that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So we hire 12 more farmen, when others leave or retire, do not replace them. Ween them back 12 positions over the two year period and pocket the extra cash. Ireton learned a lot from Slick Willie Clinton. Ireton will make sure we get cheated right.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Joe you were 100% against this. Please give us your thoughts on how to proceed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The solution is an easy one. When the grant money runs out then either layoffs will have to occur or no one gets a raise. It's a foregone conclusion that this will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Last night was about much more that this grant. Campbell's questions showed that Ireton is hiding information about the city treasury. We should all be outraged and support her in her attempt to ge the information about how much money the ciyt has.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Disgusting and shameful. Just goes to prove to everyone, the council will not listen to the taxpaying citizen. They all will hear our voice when re-election comes.

We don't it wanting going here or anywhere else. The earmarks/pork whatever you want to call them need to stop. What part of the US gov't being broke do you not understand, 11:15? What rock are you living under that you do not understand that 40 cents of every US dollar given out is borrowed money? The mentality of it's "got to go somewhere" is nothing short of assinine when you take into account the US is broke!

  36. This grant is just a short term fix. Stop chasing off the volunteers. The only paid people needed in Salisbury is EMS. Dump the paid crews.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree 9:03-all volunteer FD and I'd take it a step further and look into privatizing the EMS as some places are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. When will this shit stop? Why does the fire dept get EVERYTHING they ask for? Whatever happened to VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPTS? That's how fire departments began way back when. Look at all of the fire departments that surround Salisbury who are volunteer. Is it beneath these people to volunteer to do anything? I'm ashamed of everyone last night. I still can't believe what I watched. I really thought the three would save us. What happens now in two years. Will the new ones being hired be fired?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just when you thinkthe council and mayor might re-think things and care about Salisbury citizens, that the one thing the city needs more than anything else is city police officers. But your spend all the dough you don't have on more firemen and the Taj Mahal of fire boats. Look out guys elections are coming and your seats will be replaced.
