Less than a week after the Berlin Mayor and Council voted to cease
all financial aid to its fire department ,citing hostile working
conditions and hints of discrimination and harassment, town officials
filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit at the heart of the issue.
In May, the town terminated EMS supervisor Norris Phillip Donohue,
Jr. after 23 years on the job after at least two EMS employees filed
formal complaints about alleged workplace harassment and discrimination.
The allegations of harassment and discrimination in the EMS department
of the Berlin Fire Company (BFC) were cited as a primary reason for the
town’s decision last week to pull all funding for the entire fire
company. However, the BFC alleges the town’s decision to defund it was
based on control of the scheduling and operations.

ReplyDeleteFunny how the fire department made a big stink when the Town cut them off, but they didn't back this employee after he was terminated.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the FD existed for years fine. Goes to show where all the trouble comes from.
ReplyDeleteMight as well write that check now Berlin. If this goes to a jury there is no way in hell a jury is going to believe these just recent accusations against a 23 year employee. It's over as soon as that point is brought up.
ReplyDeleteAnyone can see right through this and agree with the plaintiff that yes, there is more to his termination. Plus the town should have atleast waited to cut off the FD's funding. That makes the situation even more suspious. Whoever is advising is not using their head.
Berlin needs some intelligent people to come from the outside and handle this problem.They are simply out of their league and overwhelmed.
