Teachers Call Boy 'Missing Link' on Facebook

BRADENTON, Fla. – On this Independence Day, a controversy over free speech among teachers using Facebook is making headlines after their online discussion referred to a student as possibly being “the evolutionary link between orangutans and humans.”

Now, the state of Florida will investigate the matter.

Bay News 9 obtained a Facebook conversation from mid-May among teachers at G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary School in Bradenton, Fla.

The exchange reportedly began with music teacher Lauren Orban writing: “I’m fairly convinced that one of my students may be the evolutionary link between orangutans and humans.”

  1. Of course when you look him up on Facebook, you do see he is pretty ugly!

  2. This sounds to me no different the police officer's "decompressing" after a serious call for service. They all do it (police, FF, EMS) talk about what happened on the job or what a crazy person's house they just went to.

Teachers have to deal with this crap all day - every day - but yet seem to be held to a higher standard outside of their profession. How often have you seen pic's of cops out drunk on FB yet a teacher can't go out and have a drink?

The kid mentioned in the article is probably - in a word - bad, and these teachers all know it & were talking about it. Big deal, move on...
