‘Selma and Montgomery Times’: Head of NAACP Compares Voter ID Laws to Civil Rights Struggles of 1960s

The head of the NAACP on Monday compared the group’s fight against voter ID laws that have been passed in several states to the struggle for civil rights in the 1960s.

Benjamin Todd Jealous, the CEO and president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said these are “Selma and Montgomery times,” referring to historic Alabama civil rights confrontations. He challenged those attending the NAACP’s annual convention to redouble their efforts to get out the vote in November.

  1. This is why we as a country are so lost..Lets see they all need ID to get the food stamps, buy the beer and collect any lottery winnings all with some form of ID.

Grant you if in this day and age you dont have an ID you dont deserve to vote. These black racist hate groups need to focus on the source of their races problem. The problem stems from a good majority of this class being so dependent on handouts to birth, cloths, feed, educate themselves. All the while supporting the thugs who father them. This multitude of illigitimate generation of children that currently inhabit every corner of this once great nation has been the corner stone of the problem. Its so sad that our government is also depenedent on this INDUSTRY they have CREATED. Of which every moral and finicial obsticle is placed upon these people to prevent escape from this prison of poverty If this is racist then our government is the biggest racist of all by allowing this to continue.

  2. How can someone go through life without an ID? If you are working you must have an ID to cash your check. Even if you have it direct deposited you had to have an ID to open the account. If you are not working and are collecting welfare don't they have to show ID when they apply for benefits? The election is not until November. If they for some reason don't have an ID now there is plenty of time for them to get off their butts and get one. I don't know about other states but in Maryland they give you a SS# when you are born at the hospital and you can go to DMV and get an ID. It doesn't have to be a drivers license. Stop making excuses for people. If voting is that important to them they will find a way to get an ID.
