"I love and respect my mother very much and I deny any accusations of wrong doing. I have taken care of my mom for the past 5 years and I refuse to harm her reputation in the court of law in order to clear my name and reputation because of unfounded allegations by a certain family members, My mother's physical and mental problems are not unique to a person 85 years old but are challenging none the less.
At this time I will pass her power of attorney and medical directive to the person named by her, if could no longer fulfill those obligations. I want only to move on and let my mother enjoy her remaining time. I would ask that the media respect my families privacy in the matter and let us begin to heal any hurt."
Mr. Culver agreed to 1 year protective order and Judge Mumford agreed to seal the records in this case.

ReplyDeleteAt county council meetings, I watched Bob Culver take care of Bob Caldwell, even pushing his wheelchair to the elevator when Mr. Caldwell had to leave. He could not have been kinder or more attentive. If that's the care he gave a colleague, I can imagine the care he gave his mother.

I have personally been a situation like this with an aging family member who did not possess all their mental abilities. It can be VERY hard. No one should pass any kind of judgement on Mr. Culver until they have been in his shoes.

ReplyDeleteBeen there also. Family member saw their inheritance being eaten up by full time live in caregivers and other domestic help and had a fit. She thought we should have sold my mother in laws home and put her in a nursing home or assisted living where it wouldn't have been so costly. Said all kinds of lies about us and still is almost 10 years later.

Bobby has always been a stand up guy and gentlman. His mother is also one of the greatest ladies you will ever meet. I to have watch family members worry more over the money then the well and mental being of the person needing care. Bob you have alway taken the high road, and my friend, have done so again in a very commendable way. Thanks for being the person you are and have always been
ReplyDeleteIt is truly despicable for a family member to exploit the diminished mentation of an elderly person for financial gain. Anyone close to the situation knows full well that Bob and his sister have always lovingly cared for their mother and done everything possible for her. Really sad and unspeakably unfair, and a total failure of the "system" .

This happens more than you know in the local courts. Anyone can file this type of document and have their day in court. It does not mean they are credible. It could be a mentally ill sister in the background driving the whole situation into the ground. Chin up Bobby....those of us that know you know that it is easier for people who don't know the whole picture to throw stones. In the mean time it is the poor soul who got sucked into the situation to wake up and find out things are not greener on the other side.
