REALLY?

During the 3rd Friday event last week these bookmarks were being handed out. Ladies & Gentlemen, do you really want a Mayor who is so clueless he FORGOT the next term is only 2 years long, not 4 years?

Do you really want a Mayor who proposed a tax increase to pay his staff more money but ignored EVERYONE else?

Do you really want a Mayor who again, proposed a tax increase when it was completely unnecessary and the Council delivered a balanced Budget WITHOUT a tax increase?

Do you really want a Mayor who is only interested in entitlement programs like affordable housing, section 8 housing, student dorms, Fire Boats and grants to educate released ECI inmates?

Do you really want a Mayor who states he's talked to the "stakeholders" in Downtown Salisbury yet he really meant special interests instead?

Do you really want a Mayor who calls Council Members racists and attacks the very people who actually voted for him in the last election?

Do you really want a Mayor who has been a government employee his entire adult life or would you rather have a Mayor who is a proven and successful businessman?

I do NOT believe Salisbury needs 500 affordable housing units Downtown. I do NOT believe in giving away parking lots to special interests for 100,000 new square feet of office space Downtown.

I believe we need to fill what we have FIRST. I believe in FINALLY supporting those people who have INVESTED into Downtown Salisbury. I believe we should get their input first. I believe in the vision I have created for Downtown Salisbury that will skyrocket economic and development as well as skyrocket property values.

I believe we should remove almost all parking meters Downtown to encourage and welcome visitors to stick around as long as they like, WITHOUT ever costing the taxpayers a penny in doing so.

If you'd like to know how this can be done along with many other ideas I have for Salisbury, come visit me at 300 W. Main Street like so many others have done. The former Ireton supporters are walking out with smiles on their faces because these are realistic ideas that finally give hope for the future of Salisbury.

The "politicians" of the past have proven they cannot manage the City. They have proven they are NOT business friendly and Salisbury needs to change that reputation. While many of you may not realize it, people interested in developing or even relocating their businesses run away from Salisbury so fast it isn't funny. This is why you're seeing most of the new development moving to Delmar and Fruitland. While this may not impact many of you on the surface, it does impact you when it comes to taxes. The more they build affordable and section 8 housing, the more your taxes go UP. YOU are paying for it. The more businesses we can bring to Salisbury the more it balances out that impact we're already stuck with.

I recently sat down with some people and asked, how many section 8, affordable housing and student housing have been built in the last 8 years? Their answer was, I really don't know exactly. I expected that answer as they were not prepared for the question. I then said, now I want you to look at it this way. How many NEW HOMES have been built in Salisbury over the last 8 years? Then it triggered in their minds. There were very few. Your current and former Mayor are killing Salisbury. You cannot grow if what your building isn't paying taxes.

So Mr. Teacher, it's a two year term, not four. You might find the image above VERY similar to a piece Obama put out recently. So I ask, do you really want four more years of Obama and Ireton?

  2. The upcoming term is only 2 years. It will change back to 4 years to coincide with the national elections.

  4. I am curious how many NEW HOMES, section 8 housing, and student housing have been built in Salisbury in the last 8 years?

  5. Along with this from the charter...

On the first Tuesday of April 2013 the registered voters shall elect a Mayor and 2 Council members one from District 1 and one from District 2 whose terms shall run until the first Tuesday of November 2017 Thereafter the registered voters shall elect their successors on the first Tuesday of November and they shall serve fouryear terms

To me, that is FOUR years.

  7. For those who wonder about stopping by 300 W. Main and discussing the future of SBY, I did visit a few weeks ago. I just walked in off the street after walking around downtown and reminiscing about how nice it used to be. It was very interesting. I have followed this blog for years but never met Joe before. I listened to his ideas, and compared them to Ireton's vision. Big difference! Just imagine downtown with more Section 8 housing. And it goes way past their views on downtown. It really was worth the time to stop by.

Two other things worth noting: Joe is much more personable live than online (we're all kind of dry when limited to the written word), and wearing a T-shirt supporting him will generate interaction with others.

  8. Be careful what you wish for. With less student housing comes less students, which brings less business to the area that everyone is running from already.

  9. You have 4 votes from out house Joe. Everyone I've been talking to is voting for you too.

  10. The downtown needs the street to be opened. Do away with the "Plaza" as it hurts business when only foot traffic can see the storefronts. The obstacle course that is a one way street now does not work. Go look at other thriving downtowns....they have traffic on their streets. Stop with all the studies and just do it. We need more retail and less offices downtown. That old bank would be a wonderful space for a restaurant or shop, ONLY if left original. I get sick when I see all of the old shops and businesses chopped up beyond recognition of any historical appearance. And we certainly don't need more section 8/student housing. Our historic neighborhoods are already over run with rentals and rentors/landlords that do not care about the appearance of the properties. Wake up people before it is too late. Vote for JOE!

  13. To whomever is sending in bogus/anonymous comments stating Ireton would be Mayor, (if elected) for four more years, you arer wrong and that is why I have eliminated your comments. Come on Jonathan, do your homework and stop sending in anonymous comments. It is a 2 year term.

  14. Joe

You stated at 11:13 -"Let me make this very clear though. THIS upcoming term is only 2 years."

When is THIS upcoming term you are talking about? Is it the one where you are planning on running against him? That isn't until April of 2013, correct?

  15. The only way I would give him 4 more years if it was behind bars in prison.

  16. "Give ME" favorite quote of liberal socialists, and system suckers looking for free money for doing absolutely nothing. If Ireton was a slug I'd pour salt on him and watch him shrivle up

  17. hey Joe, after you get done ripping up the plaza and remaking it, maybe you can see fit to go over to isabella street and rip out the obstacle course over there!

  18. Speaking of raises for Ireton's staff...

I hear that Public Works hasn't had a raise in 7 years, and that most have a 2nd job to make ends meet.

How do they expect to attract smart, hard working people in a situation like this?

  19. Cant control the section 8 stuff they have now.

  20. I still don't understand how this term is only two years. 2017 - 2013 = 4 years

  21. Why should the government employess get a raise??? My income has gone down. I do the same work as 10 years ago, but I make less money now. I deal with and adjust my life accordingly. Boo Hoo on the 7 years and no raise!

  22. To the people debating the terms, if you would watch PAC14 instead of relying on that worthless rag newspaper, you'd know the council just passed a charter change to eliminate staggered elections. So the mayor and council members (there's 2 of them) that get elected in 2013 will have a 2 year term, then everyone is going to run in 2015 for a 4 year term. That is going to save the city a chunk of money!
