The consensus had been that the Supreme Court would overturn Obamacare. Upon the announcement that it was upholding the law, the stock market tanked. My biggest problem with Obamacare is that it was sold to the American people on the false pretense that it would reduce healthcare costs for the average person and would be deficit neutral.
The truth is that the provisions already implemented have made health premiums and copays go up dramatically, as covering kids until they are 26 years old costs money. There is absolutely no doubt that Obamacare will result in the National Debt going up by trillions of dollars. You cannot add 30 million people to the healthcare system and not drive the costs up. Doctors will be screwed as more government bureaucrats and IRS agents run the healthcare system. Care will be rationed. Only rich people will get excellent service. Why would any bright teenager decide to become a doctor?
Let’s here your opinion. I’m especially interested in our doctor member opinions.
I have never had a year where my health care premiums haven't gone up, so that point isn't that important in itself.
ReplyDeleteStrange little side note on the 26 year old children part. Did you know that if your up to 26 year old child gets married and has a child she is still covered and the child is covered for the first 30 days.
ReplyDeleteI was told this by my daughter who was told it ny her insurance agent
Care is and always has been rationed. As it existed before "Obamacare" everyone who had insurance shared the cost with everyony else and those who didn't have it.
ReplyDeleteSo what is the fuss? The medicare prescription extension increased the National Dept and there was nothing in the extension to pay for itself, So where was the fuss then?
It seems people didn't like the old system nor do they like (supposedly) the old system. So what should have happened?
People never seem to be satisfied.
The people will be heard in November. The law can be repealed if we get the right people in Congress.
ReplyDeleteWhat was John Roberts thinking? This makes this year's election even more important. Obama said he would not raise taxes on any American making less than $250,000.00 per year. Based on this ruling, ObamaCare will be the biggest tax increase in the history of the world. This law must be repealed!
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone be happy that the law was upheld? It is horrible public policy. It's great to have these feel good utopian notions however it does no good when the country is bankrupt. It was sold that it would drive down costs however it has already been proven to do just the opposite. Any supply/demand analysis will tell you that this law will only drive costs up. We the people lose cause not only does costs rise but care declines. Whether Romney excites you or not we must vote Obama out! Remember, when the feds have control over your health, they have control over you.
ReplyDeleteHuge victory for the American people! Far too many good people have died because they had pre-existing conditions and could not get medical care for treatable illnesses. Very proud of the Supreme Court.
ReplyDeleteHey Rick --
ReplyDeleteRoberts is a f____ing traitor!
12:18 Once you go on Medicare the government has full control anyway. Anyone turning down medicare?
ReplyDeleteWithin this law, the Federal Government has access to you're banking accounts both checking and savings. It's written in pages 50 section 152. Also review page 58 and page 59 sections 21-24.
ReplyDeleteHaha
ReplyDeleteObama 1 - Crazy Wingnuts 0
I would like to see your efforts repealing a supreme court decision written by a very conservative Chief Justice.
Coming to theaters near you! Government will now tell you what kind or car to drive, the lawn mower you will use, the air conditioner you will own, and the Supreme Court will just call it a tax.
ReplyDeleteIt only passed because Obama's lawyers framed it as a tax on citizens and the congress has the right to tax.All the while he said it was no tax!
ReplyDeleteThe supreme court got the eminant domain law wrong also!
ReplyDeleteHey 12:40
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious you never got passed the 2nd grade.
Either that or you are an entitlement person who went to college and is still dumb as a brick.
Joe - your facts are wrong. Health care costs have not gone up...they have leveled off. Once everyone is purchasing a minimum level of insurance it will drop even farther.
ReplyDeleteAll impartial observers have tallied it up - repealing the ACA would COST the taxpayers billions.
Insuring "kids" until they are 26 is MAKING money for the insurance companies. They take in extra premiums and hardly pay out anything...they rarely get sick.
C'mon Joe - you were a businessman. You know how insurance works...
Our government has spent much of the money we working people have already paid in to recieve Social Security in our older age.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes anyone think our government will do any better with a complicated 2700 page health care mandate?
This is the answer for many small businesses, no you can't afford to hire more employees! Can you afford to keep the employees you have working now?
This decision will increase unemployment, and stifle any hopes of a job recovery for decades to come.
Three hots, a cot and free healthcare, how can you top that? Let's all go to jail and let the criminals walk the streets!
Let's hope this is the straw that breaks the back of the apathy camel and gets people to the polls to vote these blood suckers out of office.
Again, these are the same idiots that stole our Social Security money that we paid for in advance and many never lived long enough to collect. Now you want to trust them with your health?
It would be more convienient for you to die before you're old enough to collect your Social Security!
I have great concern that employers will see this an an opportunity to no longer provide insurance. People will be forced to buy into some government program or be taxed. It may well be cheaper to pay the tax- which will then put their medical costs on everyone else. It all sounded so good... health care for everyone.... but, who in the end will really pay?
ReplyDeleteI agree with 12:48! What are people thinking that support this man we call President; this is pure socialism, heading toward communism!! We need to get him out of office, no matter who is running against him. He is so bad for America and our rights as citizens. Go to work people!!!!
ReplyDeleteAndrew Weil put out a book which became a #1 best seller, WHY OUR HEALTH MATTERS, A vision of medicine that can transform our future. I recommed this book because it exposes the myth of Americian health care.
ReplyDeletei think everyone can agree that insurance companies rake in mad money. right? well, they have essentially made the federal government an insurance company. anyone connecting the dots yet?
ReplyDeleteI believe doctors are concerned because people will not be able to choose which doctors they prefer.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens is insurance will only pay those doctors who agree to lower reimbusements by insurers.
This is where this becomes very unfair, because the wealthy will be able to go to whatever doctor they choose because, they will pay them out of pocket.

Another great point. If everyone recalls certain businesses and unions are exempt BUT....and this is a big one, they may be exempt because they are an entity BUT individuals ARE NOT exempt. Live, living people, human beings have to pay and may have to end up footing more of the bill had they before had some employers coverage.

your an idiot... There is no Govt option... all they did was mandate that you buy insurance from a PRIVATE INSURER... they are NOT making an govt version of a health care plan...
it is what it is. aint much need worrying about it! god will take care of it before long..
ReplyDeleteHere Here, Here Here folks
ReplyDeleteI am self-emlpoyed and can not offer health insurance for myself. If I could afford insurance I would have some. Guess they will just have to fine me. But guess what?! If I can't afford health insurance, do they think I can afford a fine??? Maybe if they will take a budget plan.
ReplyDeleteAnother problem doctors are concerned about is this only addresses "access" to healthcare and not treatment.
ReplyDeleteThis is where the so called "Death Panels" (republican interpretation) and/or "Healthcare Counselor" (demorcrat interpretation) comes into play. The costs of keeping someone alive is going to be weighed as part of the goal to keep healthcare affordable.
I have 57 people working for me 7 are about to lose there jobs ,thanks Obamie
ReplyDeleteJust practice alternative medicine: everybody go out and smoke a ton of cannabis, and all your health probs will go away and you won't care about Obamacare.
ReplyDeleteTime to pull my money out of my checking and savings account! Bury it, hide it, etc......get it out of the banks for sure.
ReplyDeleteRemember the good old days when you stayed employed at your job so that you could keep your health insurance. Well now everyone can just quit. free health insurance for everyone.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Obama.
We need change bad. Everyone please vote for Romney!!!!
You are going to have to prove via tax returns that you are purchasing healthcare insurance otherwise it will be deducted if you are due a refund. Those who qualify will get some sort of credit to purchase the required insurance.
ReplyDeletespeaking of Romney I heard about an hour ago, since this decision came out he's generated more than a million dollars in campaign donation. He's been gifted with a platform. 70% of those polled are not in favor of Obamacare. That number has been fairly consistant since it's inception.
ReplyDeleteSo what happens when the drug dealers get shot? Will they get fined if they dont have healthcare?
ReplyDeleteDo not think Victory you left nut cases. We will Repeal this and fire your Muslim and Chief too!
ReplyDeleteObama is teaching people that if your lazy and don't want to work your going to get the same benefits as a working person...here's my thought WHY should I work then???? and that's the mentality that's going to spread like wild fire across this country....Obama's gotta go!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys realize that this proposes a simple ~2.5% tax(gradual increase starting in 2014) across the board and a very minute .9% tax on people who make 200k+ starting 2013.... all while your health care bill simultaneously decrease in cost.
ReplyDeleteDoctors pay will be determined by the quality of their care, NOT by the amount of people they treat... which is how it should be.
Indoor Tanning bed salons receive a 10% tax increase.
Small businesses will receiver a tax credit for the first 2 years.
Why do you have a problem with everyone in the US having access to affordable health care? The US in the ~30th worst country in the world when it comes to health care. This is NOT the greatest country in the world like you think it is, and we need to adapt in order to become so again.
Insurance providers will be happy and mad about this: On the plus side for them, everyone has to buy health insurance. On the down side, they can NO LONGER TURN PATIENTS DOWN FOR CARE. They can no longer tell you that you have used up "too much healthcare."
Also, this removes the chances of "Joe and Sally" being able to just decide they will wait to buy health care until they get sick. Because, since the insurance company cannot turn down a patient, you can just buy health care when you need it, right? Wrong. Obama knows this is unfair to insurance companies, but insurance companies deciding to stop coverage because someone gets sick too often is also unfair.
Now, you have to always have health insurance coverage(also, now affordable) while insurance companies are not allowed to drop coverage(unlike car insurance companies).
Health Insurance is a basic human right, why you are so opposed to paying a little bit(and I strongly emphasize a LITTLE BIT) more in taxes so that everyone can have health care, is way beyond me. Its selfish, indecent and just ignorant.
Everyone clamoring for people to "get jobs" and "buy their own health care" clearly have NEVER had to pay for any type of non-work-provided health care. When I was working retail about 5 years ago, a coworker of mine(he was full-time, I was part-time) made 15$/hour. His wife cut hair on the side and they also had a child to look after. Does anyone want to take a guess of how much he had to spend in order to have health insurance for the family? 250$. Per Paycheck. That is about 25% of his paycheck, gone towards health care. How is that affordable? How can one simply be ok with ~6000$+ gone per year on health insurance when the same person brings home only ~24,000$ per year?
We are one of the only industrialized nations in the world without any type of decent/universal health care policy. No wonder why we are 30th in the world. Maybe now we can get back to setting an american standard of excellence.
Please read this obamacare before you bash it, because I guarantee that most of you havent even bothered to do so.
War is coming...............

ReplyDeletedo you even know what romneys policies are?
ive got an idea thatll make everyone happy.
ReplyDeletesince democrats love taxing and spending and republicans dont, we make one law that appeases both sides. everyone that is a registered democrat will now have a 95% income tax rate and must pay double the state-specific sales tax. in addition, republicans will have 1% income tax and will be only required to pay 1/4 of the state-specific sales tax.
everyone wins. dems get their own money, republicans get their lives back!
3:33pm has it right. Just because you've never been put in the situation that this bill is trying to cover, doesn't mean the situation isn't real.
ReplyDeleteI'm so tired of waking up every morning and going to work to support someone else's lifestyle. This is just another victory for the welfare state and a big screw you to the working American. Don't believe me? Drive through certain parts of town anytime day or night and see the same faces sitting on their porches drinking beer, smoking cigarettes..but more importantly...not working. Young girls are dropping out of school to have kids because the government has taught them that that doing so will net them more than actually working for a living. "You keep spitting them out and we'll keep paying for them".
ReplyDeleteAnd before you get all "preachy" on me...remember all this when you try to retire and there is no social security.
I have my own business and pay for my own insurance....to the tune of almost $600.00 a month....exactly 25 percent of my monthly salary. That does not leave me much leftover to live on each month. No one else is paying my insurance premiums each month except me - so I really can't feel sorry for those without health insurance. I can't afford it either but because I am a responsible person, I pay for insurance out of my pocket! I noticed today driving home from work several "welfare folks" sitting out on their front porches "celebrating". They don't have to work and for sure now, they will get their insurance paid for.
ReplyDelete3:14, in theory the answer is yes. In reality how are they going to collect is the 64 dollar question.
ReplyDelete6:05 You will now start to get a tax credit of up to 35% of your insurance premiums, set to go up to 50%. There are rewards for being responsible.
ReplyDelete3:33, says--- "Insurance providers will be happy and mad about this: On the plus side for them, everyone has to buy health insurance. On the down side, they can NO LONGER TURN PATIENTS DOWN FOR CARE. They can no longer tell you that you have used up "too much healthcare."
ReplyDeleteThis is incorrect. Insurance companies won't be able to deny COVERAGE, not care. Care will be determined by government "health counselors" if it becomes a problem with doctors/insurers not wanting to treat someone for a life threatening illess or injury.
Yes, 3:33 is incorrect. It's coverage they can not deny, not care. Nothing has changed in that department and you can bet your first born that if everyone decides to run to the doctor/hospital for every little ailment and it becomes a losing proposition for insurance companies we are going to see them denying care like never before.
ReplyDeleteDoes everyone who opposes the legislation realize that all of us who pay taxes are now paying for the uninsured? Every time an uninsured person runs up a four-figure tab in an ER, we all pay. Then there are those desperate cases we hear of from time to time involving a baby born with catastrophic health problems, such as no brain, to uninsured parents. If the parents want extraordinary measures taken to prolong life, we all pay.
ReplyDeleteCare can be denied. The way this works you can not be denied coverage and certain requirements insurers will have to abide by-basically wellness and prevention measures. Anything else the insurance companies are allowed to design benefit plans and care as it chooses.
ReplyDeleteRomney got all those donations from the well to do who have never had to worry about health care or insurance in their lives. Some people lack or lose insurance through no fault of their own and care is just not the same. Besides that, how many of this supposed 70% who oppose it have even read the health care bill to know what they are against???
ReplyDeleteRoberts rules!
ReplyDelete17 million children will no longer be denied healthcare for a pre-existing condition due to today's ruling. I agree that Chief justice Robert rules! His decision shows that he truly considered the constitutionality of the issue rather than give in to the pressures of the GOP and conservative right.
ReplyDeleteChief Justice Roberts did not vote according to the Health Care Law. He altered the wording to declare the "fine" as a "tax" and then voted in favor since Congress has the authority to tax. And anyone desiring socialized medicine should discuss the issue with our European and Canadian friends who have to wait in line to be treated. Sometimes treatment for cancer in early stages is delayed because it's not life-threatening but by the time the patient is treated, maybe months later, it may be too late. Obamacare is a terrible bill with too much included in it that needs to be repealed. They still have much work to do. Vote Republican and save the USA!
ReplyDeleteAnd people think this is a GOOD thing. "I got insurance, I don't have to pay anything..."
ReplyDeleteI hear this all day LONG.
People are EAGER to spout about what they know nothing at all about.
Just having insurance doesn't mean you don't pay only premiums, health care isn't free, there are copays, coinsurances, deductibles, and flat out denials on 'non-covered' charges under your benefit plan. And depending upon what you purchase, you could pay upwards to 15K, yes, fifteen thousand dollars OUT of your pocket, before your insurance ever pays ONE dime--all the while you are paying them as well.
So how about an example of "FREE" that isn't "Free?"
FREE screenings? Colonoscopy? They find a BENIGN polyps --they must remove ... the procedure is no longer a screening, becomes diagnostic. Deductibles and coinsurances kick in and the price tag for that can be huge. That second mammogram because something wasn't clear...also isn't routine or screening. You pay for that too.
Just examples, things people don't realize or deem fair, but it is how it works.
Knowledge is power. Most people don't know, don't WANT to know, won't bother themselves to research or find out. They just scream when they get the bill for it.
Being forced to purchase insurance when you can barely pay the mortgage or rent, or facing unemployment and can't pay for medicines or much food...
Yeah, go ahead, rejoice in this decision. When you discover just how awful this is, there will be a revolt.
Take the time people READ, RESEARCH, come to your own decisions.
Major companies will cut off their employees from health care because the fines are CHEAPER...if you are working for mega corporations--expect it to come soon. It's already been through major corporate board rooms, and if you are in a union, don't even think you are safe, you aren't.
So, ya'll keep on thinking this decision is GREAT.
8:49. Ditto

This is the point of those against this-those who cannot afford it now aren't suddenly going to be able to afford it now.
The lowest decent policy is probably around $200/per month/per person. Rates aren't going to go down any.
The logic behind Obamacare is that if more people buy insurance the rates will go lower but there is no provision or guarantee that this is going to happen.
How about another EXAMPLE? NYC mind you...
ReplyDeleteGo out and get totally drunk, stumble out of the bar (lots of college kids do this)...the ambulance arrives, hauls you to the ER.
Your daddy's insurance DENIES--non-covered. Many kids call up, hoping their parents will NEVER find out. Um, those EOBs from insurance are sent to dear old Mom and Dad. Some have paid, others don't.
$985 for the AMBULANCE
$1300 for ER (facility)
$231 for ER Doc
Total = $2516, oh, plus 9.63% NYS surcharge = 242.29
Total for drunken binge =$2758.29.
We CAN set up monthly installments for $114.93 over the next 24 months for your convenience.
----
OR those who use ER for all-purpose doctor visit.
"I've got a bump..."
Denied--'non-emergency'
$1000 ER facility
$165 ER doc
PLUS NYS surcharge...112.19
Total=$1277.19
For being STOOOOPID.
---------
People abuse the system all day long.
And you want better?
MOST illegals get MEDICAID coverage at YOUR expense -- and they SCREAM at a $3 copay.
Are you all paying attention..yet?
Obviously NOT.

NOT TRUE-The only thing that can't be DENIED is COVERAGE! C-O-V-E-R-A-G-E! Not CARE!
They are 2 completely different things. Care can still be denied!
This is the problem, most people do not even know what this is all about.
Heathcare will be rationed starting with cuts in Medicare.
ReplyDeleteObamacare attempts to anticipate and prevent rising health care costs by giving government the authority to ration care. This begins by constraining the resources going to doctors and hospitals through nearly $3 trillion in Medicare cuts over the first 20 years. A new, democratically unaccountable Independent Medicare Advisory Board is created with authority to adopt still more Medicare cuts.
Payment practices adopted by Medicare will be copied by private insurers, spreading the impact throughout the entire health care system. The Act creates financial incentives for doctors and hospitals to deny health care, contrary to the interests of their patients. Government authorities will use their new power over payments to doctors and hospitals to favor those who follow their rationing dictates.
These constrained resources will decimate incentives for investment in health care facilities such as hospitals and clinics, and in the provision of current technologies and services. Already we have seen the cancellation of 60 proposed new doctor-owned hospitals across the country because of new burdens imposed by the legislation. This means less access for Americans to advanced medical technologies such as MRIs and CT scans
"States will provide [credits] for those individuals that cannot afford insurance and will have their premiums paid by Federal Government grants totaling a half a trillion dollars." (of taxpayers money)
ReplyDeleteOne must qualify by couch/porch sitting,(waiting for the mailman, thumbing a ride to social services once a month to settle your freedom card(ironic)extension claim, using the free bus passes to go to DMV parking lot to receive your 3rd free Government subsidized cell phone, then go panhandle the lunch crowd downtown to buy a little ripple and bum some cigarettes for the walk to shore up to pay your electric bill on the way home.
Welcome to the third world communism we have so desperately tried to resist since the 50's.
They (the marxist/socialists) have infiltrated, corrupted and overtaken the democratic party with a supreme racist fascist as their leader.
NOBAMA2012 @)(@
Um...You can have COVERAGE, but denied if NOT covered under the benefit plan you purchased.
ReplyDelete(Remember, even with outstanding bills, hospitals will NOT refuse care---lawsuits ya know). If no insurance, you don't pay, off to agency, your credit is ruined--if you are homeless, what do you care?
How about applying the same logic to other areas in your life?
Don't think buying insurance pays for everything...it doesn't--EVER.
It's the equivalent of buying car insurance. Buy LIABILITY coverage on your old car, wreck it--um, they aren't paying anything--only what YOU mess up for someone else. You aren't getting a new car.
How about homeowner's insurance...doesn't cover flooding. Often it won't even cover what you think it does.
It comes down to WHAT you buy, knowledge of your benefit plan, how they pay, and what you are going in for.
As a side...if you wreck your car and you DO have coverage, but a high deductible...do you scream at the auto shop? No, you yell at your insurance company...so stop screaming at the hospital when your insurance doesn't pay up.
And trust me, if they can DENY it, they will. Or pay as little as possible.
I deal with this all day, every day, and the masses are clueless. They just follow the media.."Oh, we're SAVED!"
Is the collective IQ of the lazy masses below 72?
Where is the logic? You get what you pay for.
Further the issue over RIGHT vs TAX--yes, the public has been duped again and they don't even realize it. They just lap it right up. They will STOP lapping it when they get the bill and revolt. "But I didn't KNOW?" Yeah, you dumbass, you didn't read...you just followed the Piped Piper.
When the GOVERNMENT can FORCE you to purchase something in conjunction with nothing else--it's wrong--PERIOD.
If you own a car and want to drive, you MUST have car insurance--it is YOUR choice to buy a car. If you have a mortgage you MUST have insurance--again, YOUR choice to buy a home. Those are givens.
Now, if YOU BREATHE, you must purchase health insurance.
So it's come down to it--the government IS taxing your every breath. Think about it.
Opting to be homeless, a shadow, and unfindable may become the new chic.
Most are angry not because we are trying to provide care for those that don't have access, it is the concern that any government with this type of power, is powerful enough to take it away. Call it a tax and they can argue all sorts of freedom restricting decisions...what you drink, eat, drive. Like a soda? Like your SUV? Too bad, not long for a higher cost for everything the leading party (Dems or Reps) choose to tax.
ReplyDeleteToo much power, freedom lost today. It had better work....better than Medicare, the Post Office, Amtrak, etc, etc. not likely.
Just sit back, watch the abuse on both sides, be a sheep and just follow these politicians flush your ability to make up your own mind. Enjoy the drones flying over and the government encroachment in even more of your life.
If its such a good law,why has so many of Obamas friends and big money contributors got exemptions from it?
ReplyDeleteTidewaterbound and others are correct. This has nothing to do with guranteed care. The only guranteed is that you must purchase coverage.
ReplyDeleteAlso does anyone know how "pre existing condition" is defined in Obamacare?
I'm sure I read or heard somewhere the term "condition" doesn't include terminal disease (cancer) or some of the more debilitating diseases such as MS or CP, genetic defect. It's more along the lines of high blood pressure, asthma, mental illess which according to the fed government's own statistics less than 5% of the population was ever denied coverage of those conditions anyway and alot of states have already remedied this by having something in place called "high risk pools."
Here's how it will work in MD under the Pre-Existing Conditon Plan. States can have their own qualifications, limits, etc. Other states such as MD are for now following the federal government's requirements.
ReplyDeletePremiums will run from $127-$685 per month.
There are only 2 plans to choose from. Dedcutibles are: Plan 1-$500, Plan 2-$1500.
Out of Pocket Limit:
Plan 1: $3000 for medical, $2000 for pharmacy.
Plan 2: $1500 (Same as the Combined Medical and Pharmacy Deductible.)
I do not like the fact that those who do have a pre existing condition are limited as to what plan they can choose.
"Anonymous said...
ReplyDeleteIf its such a good law,why has so many of Obamas friends and big money contributors got exemptions from it?
June 29, 2012 5:57 AM"
"Welfare Kings/Queens" and also "Undocumented Workers" are also exempt, 5:57.
This is so going to hurt the working poor by taking what could amount to $1000/per month (or more) out of their pockets for a family of 4.
Maryland has 2 plans under their Pre-Existing Condition Plan part of this health care bill. Delaware has 3 plans.
ReplyDeleteThe fact stands that you will be denied coverage of the plan of your choosing. What you will not be denied is one of the few plans each state has in place that are regulated by the federal government & and the insurance industry for those that qualify under the pre existing condition program.
One of the biggest selling points of Obamacare to the American people was the idea that insurance companies would no longer be able to drop the existing policies of people when they became sick. The sticky point here is that this practice was already illegal. Federal regulations have prohibited insurance companies from rescinding coverage or raising premiums or refusing to renew existing policies, no matter how sick a person becomes, since 1997.
ReplyDeleteTitle 45 of the Code of Federal Regulations (45 CFR § 148.122), titled “Public Welfare,” is about “guaranteed renewability of individual health insurance coverage.”
We were also told that Obamacare would protect people from being excluded from insurance due to "preexisting conditions." This certainly seemed a worthy goal. Strangely, this practice was also already illegal under HIPPA law since 1997. How come we were never told that these laws already existed? In fact, Americans were led to believe the opposite was true.
ReplyDelete We are constantly told that America's health care system is the most costly, but ranks 37th in care. Commonly quoted to justify Obamacare, this is a bogus statistic put forth by the World Health Organization that ranks health care systems based on the level of socialism practiced in a country. WHO claimed that the U.S. ranks 37th in overall health care, just behind Costa Rica and above Slovenia. It seems obvious that this is not true.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Section 3307 of the Patient Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) the government is going to declare certain drugs off limits for consumers because they are too costly.
ReplyDelete The Obamacare law authorizes the HHS Secretary to modify or eliminate preventative services for seniors based on the recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. This is the same group that recently sparked public outrage by saying that women ages 40-49 and older than 74 should no longer get routine annual mammograms. Section 4105 (a)(n)(I).
ReplyDeleteDonald Berwick, the new head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has been clear in his distaste for the American health care system. He criticizes it as "designed to respond to the acute needs of individual patients." (Aren't doctors supposed to respond to the acute needs of patients?) Berwick has made it clear that he plans to "anticipate and shape patterns of care for important subgroups." The "subgroups" could be defined by age, affliction, socioeconomic status, etc.. Sorry for you if you are not in a favored subgroup.
ReplyDelete9:46 Because there is no such thing under HIPPA. HIPPA is privacy and has nothing to do with care.
ReplyDelete10:59-You could not be more WRONG if you tried.
ReplyDeletePlease please know your facts before spreading false information. There is way more to HIPAA than privacy.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provides rights and protections for participants and beneficiaries in group health plans. HIPAA includes protections for coverage under group health plans that limit exclusions for preexisting conditions; prohibit discrimination against employees and dependents based on their health status; and allow a special opportunity to enroll in a new plan to individuals in certain circumstances. HIPAA may also give you a right to purchase individual coverage if you have no group health plan coverage available, and have exhausted COBRA or other continuation coverage.
Incorrect 10:59. HIPAA is a federal law that:
ReplyDeleteLimits the ability of a new employer plan to exclude coverage for preexisting conditions;
Provides additional opportunities to enroll in a group health plan if you lose other coverage or experience certain life events;
Prohibits discrimination against employees and their dependent family members based on any health factors they may have, including prior medical conditions, previous claims experience, and genetic information; and
Guarantees that certain individuals will have access to, and can renew, individual health insurance policies.
HIPAA is complemented by state laws that, while similar to HIPAA, may offer more generous protections.
