The Inevitable Has Happened

There's been a roll over accident on Rt. 50 east near Denny's. Station 16 was attempting to respond but are now stuck at the Draw Bridge. The accident is now being called a rescue as three people are trapped inside. Be prepared for a road closure on Rt. 50 East.

UOPDATE: ALL east bound lanes are closed at Autumn Grove Ct.

  2. They called station 7 because they need more EMS units. The city is busy right now.

  3. These 3 elderly people have been stuck in that rollover for a least a half hour. They are calling for an assist to station 1 & 16.

  7. Wow. I missed it by minutes, and was wondering why EMS was pulling onto Rt50 at odd places. They had to go around the bridge.

    I hope everybody is OK.

  10. Now we know why we need truck and ambulance downtown salisbury at THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. On this side of the bridge.

  11. Does Beaglin Park station have an and ambulance or does Brown Street have one? People dont think of it until we need them..now those older citizens have to suffer until they can get there.

  12. Parsonsburg was called for EMS assist and then Pittsville was called. As for Hebron, A car left the roadway and went into the woods severing a telephone pole. All east bound lanes there were closed as well.

It was Bill Gordy, David See and Rick Hoppes who gave up the downtown fire station. Rick Hoppes is now Jim Ireton's choice for fire chief to continue wasting tax dollars and valuable resources.

  16. They need to change that yield sign to a stop sign.A friend of mine from South Carolina almost went thru that yield into traffic.

  17. Why don't they just use the new fireboat as a ferry? Just drive the trucks onto the fireboat and float to the other side. What a monumental waste of time and money - both the firehouse and the boat.

    1. I agree with you 100%.

Jim Ireton on the other hand thinks it came from free money.

  19. David See and Bill Gordy both said, if the bridge is up they'll go down Isabella St and the new fancy sidewalks be damned. They also said they would pull equipment out of Brown St and/or Beaglin Park. I see they opted to call in Pittsville instead. Why, because it's closer to KMart than Beaglin Park station? Idiots ran and continue to run this fire department.

  21. So why didnt they go around it, go down by the old training center, then get back on the main route?

Idiots do continue to run the fire department still. Rick Hoppes and John Tull are allowing a junior grade lieutenant to work as an Assistant Chief and run the entire city. And you wonder why the entire fire department did not support Rick Hoppes for fire chief the first go round!

  23. That is a stupid traffic pattern there. They should not have a crossover in that location. It should be a ramp from each side of the highway directly onto the bypass. Maybe the cheaper fix would be to put in a traffic light. I hope the people ok.

When you get a free moment, take you time and look closely. You will see there were appropriate on and off ramps to the bypass. You can blame that on wannabe mayor Bubba Comegys when he was a state highway employee.

NO people just need to pay attention!!

  26. Gary Comegys.
He was a moving force behind the sweet new firehouse deals. Lots of insider and special interest people made too much money on the backs of the taxpayers.
What people don't know is that he, as a senior SHA employee, was also a force behind taking the drawbridges to an on-call status (4 hour window after calling) from a 24/7 manned status (no delay in raising the bridge.) And he kept the information about the plan a secret from the city council and all of the businesses up the North Prong and the tugboat operators until it was a done deal.

And in the new firehouse there's a room named after him...
