Will Smith Supports Obama's Call for Higher Taxes

One of Hollywood's biggest and best-paid stars is supporting President Barack Obama's call for higher taxes on the country's top earners.
Will Smith said while promoting "Men In Black III" last week that he supports the move.

"I'm very supportive of that idea," Smith told The Associated Press in an interview. "America has been fantastic to me. I have no problem paying whatever I need to pay to keep my country growing."

  1. I'll bet someone will get hold of his income taxes and charitable donations and find that he neither gives extra nor very much.

  2. I'am glad America has been fantastic to you,so without been made to pay more just send in 30% of your income.

  3. Just write out a check for the extra amount, Will. Put your money where your mouth is!

  4. I don't understand why he just doesn't do what you suggested Daddio.
It's a real simple concept, he wants to pay more then pay more. Nothing could be more simple.

  5. Will Smith donated 1.3 millions dollars to charity in 2007 and had the 4th highest of celebrity donations in 2011.

  6. Why do you people get so bent out of shape. I'm sure most of you don't make anywhere close to be included in the millionaire billionaire tax bracket. Most of you don't even make the $250,000 where it starts. The eastern shore doesn't have many jobs if any that do. So why all the fuss.

  7. 8:05 his net worth is $215 million...I think he can afford to do that!

  8. 9:02...its mere principal. I'm not rich and I feel the other 54% need to cough up their fair share as well. Getting by not putting anything in is just as bad as the wealthy dodging with loopholes. Get it?

  9. clown at 9:12, thats 1.2 mil in just one year. Net worth accumulates over life. In other words, 1.2 mill every year for 30 years equals 36 million. Even if his net worth goes up to 300 mill, thats still over the good ol 10% tithe. Nice try though

  10. 9:48 Clown, really? I said net worth and I meant net worth.
You really need to chill out.

  12. 9:43,

They do pay their fair share.

    Under your ideal situation:
someone who makes 40,000/year pays 30%. After taxes they have 28,000/year to live off of.

Someone who makes 400,000/year pays 30%, they make 280,000/year to live off of.

How in the world does that seem fair to you?

280,000/year is enough to have a house in salisbury, the carribbean and a beach condo in OC.

28,000/year is enough to BARELY have a house in salisbury.

that is not paying your fair share and that is just morally wrong.

  13. 2:06...i think you lost your way and did not read my post. I (said), the 54% that don't. Many people realize that there are wealthy people that don't help with our society. But the 54% that don't help at all, are just as bad. Leeching and taking from our society is way out of control and it's not only the wealthy that do it. If you can't recognize that or don't want to, you are part of the problem.
