Our Most Important Asset

During the 2011 legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly, we passed a bill that will educate more of our children and help us keep the best and brightest living, working and innovating in Maryland.

The DREAM Act says that students can be eligible for in-state tuition, regardless of their parents’ immigration status, provided they pay state taxes, graduate from a Maryland high school, and commit to legalizing their status as soon as they are eligible.

As the Washington Post editorialized, “It makes no sense for Maryland to educate bright, ambitious youngsters through high school, then deny them a realistic shot at higher education.”

Over the past few years, even when we have cut from nearly every other priority, we have chosen together to invest in education. As a result, we have built what Education Week has named the nation’s best school system for four years in a row now.

Let’s continue to invest in our greatest asset.

We are a stronger State when we expand opportunity to a greater number of our people, rather than fewer. Greater educational opportunity and better jobs means a stronger economy.

Governor Martin O'Malley

  1. The only problem is that "our people" are not the people here illegally sucking off taxpayer funded services and not paying any taxes.

  2. O'Malley wasn't listening to the people. This law will likely be overturned in November by the voters.

  3. Why not...Educate all children then graducate them to retirement ststus. Eliminate the working for a living. Let the tax payers pay. That will get you more votes.

  4. would be glad to support this once they complete what's necessary to become a US citizen, then a citizen of our state. until then, REALLY? you want to reward illegals and tell them to come to our state to bleed us dry and say that we should pay for them to go to college and take our jobs? That practically tells them....COME TO MARYLAND and break the law and we don't care. we will reward you by giving you in-state tuition. Stupid is as stupid does.
