More Maryland Families Than Ever Require Government Aid To Stay Afloat

The number of Maryland families who need government help to make ends meet has reached record levels. More than 700,000 people receive food assistance, the most in state history. A record 70,000 people depend on emergency cash assistance. And the demand for the state's child care subsidy program has caused officials to impose an indefinite freeze on new applicants.

  4. 10:41,your right on.Also what people dont get is that when there is no more tax money coming in,all those handouts will dry up.

  5. I think we're already seeing handouts drying up. Charitable giving is down and truth be told people who still have a job at least are not getting higher wages and their money is being used to pay for higher taxes and prices in general on goods and services.

Stop electing these Robin Hood democrats and start opening up the free market. We ALL will benefit then.

  6. Charitable giving is going to go down even more with omalley's new tax increase but for some reason those on the lower income and no income level keep voting him in. It makes no sense. They shouldn't want the weathly people taxed more because it's those people who give to charities like the Salvation Army which help them out!

  7. For an example of what happens when more people are receiving instead of paying in,look at the city of Detroit.

  10. We are so broke, so flat out, stone cold deadbeat broke that it doesn't matter if we brought back Ronald Reagan or re-elected Bill Clinton. NO ONE -- absolutely no one --- can dig us out this hole without starting a civil uprising. Pay attention. Tax increases, surcharges, new laws and their relative penalties and fines, police "campaigns", "fair share" tax burdens (but ONLY on those who already pay huge taxes, not on those on never pay anything), fee increases, new levies and increases on the old ones, none of that can put even a SMALL dent in 16 TRILLION dollars worth of debt. But our leaders won't say that, nor CAN they say it. Sooner or later, the bills have to paid. And they CAN'T be paid. What do you think is going to happen then? Everyone throws flowers and hugs each other? Or everyone starts TAKING what they can no longer afford, like food? Even the CBO is issuing dire warnings...THAT's not good, believe me...
