Leave Your Kids In Public School

I know a few parents who home school their children. They do so because they are not fond of the atmosphere and disagree with how public schools are run. I can’t blame them, the decline in the quality of the public school system has been steady for years. Surveys show that home schooled children score higher on tests in nearly every subject. It’s not surprising though, the one-on-one attention is very advantageous for the student.

Here are some of the reasons parents give as to why they decide to home school:

Concern about the school environment (safety, drugs, negative peer-pressure, etc.)
Dissatisfaction with academic instruction
To provide religious and/or moral instruction
for mental or physical health accommodation
I actually don’t think home schooling solves the problems parents think it does (omitting mental or physical health conditions). Well, individually it may, but long-term and for society, it does little. For example, home schooling your children isn’t necessary in order to provide religious education (83% of home schooling parents cite religious reasons for their choice to home school). That can and should be done at home anyway, and could be done instead of watching television or some other activity. And concern for the school environment? I don’t see it as a big problem either since most who home school are in rural and suburban areas (as opposed to urban areas). I think the concerns that parents have about the environment (in many, if not most) of the schools is over-blown. Many parents have the belief that the world is much more dangerous than when they were children, which is simply not true.

The one reason I find both legitimate and self-imposed is their dissatisfaction with the academic instruction. I say it’s self-imposed because it really is, in a non-direct way.

  1. Its not so much the danger, its the poisoning of students minds by the liberal teaching by whacked out college teachers whose minds were destroyed by liberal teachers and professors

  2. this article is a real joke.
    1. look at the statistics regarding our academic standing world wide. it's bad.

    2. know this; your child is a number to many of these government school teachers and they are so busy trying to control the class they are totally distracted and can't give a quality education.

    3. their hands are tied because the government and the unions will not allow them to give a quality education to the unsuspecting students and their parents.

    4. as far as "morals" are concerned; that's relative isn't it? what most conservative, christian people believe and want taught and lived in the classroom is not what is being taught and lived in these government schools today. years ago it was so very different than it is today. the entire school system was on board and usually complimented and confirmed what was being taught at home. i know many of the younger readers of this blog will have a hard time grasping this fact, but it is true.

    5. lastly the material and books used by the government schools are loaded with revisionist history, creative spelling and math, and many errors. parents don't have a clue; let alone the students. what a waste of time and our tax dollars and what a shame to leave a legacy of stupidity. the emperor has NO clothes. get it?

  3. And all the 'scams' going on in the public schools system.
The Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence comes to mind.
This is nothing more than a scam in which blue ribbon Schools for Excellence INC, who is an "educational consulting" company charges school districts $20,000 more or less for consulting fees then gives the schools this award.

  4. Homeschooling isn't all it's cracked up to be either. Look at all of the freaks that keep their kids at home. They don't give their kids a chance at learning how to fit into society. There are pros and cons to both. Both sides can argue that their position is best. But you have to admit that BOTH have flaws.

  5. No they are "your" children I think you should teach them at home. No God, No Country. This country has lost all moral standards. The liberals have ruined the future of this country why would I stand back and let them ruin my child.

  6. There is an alternative. Private school. All is needed is to convince the unions that we are not using their system anymore and can't contribute 1/2 of our taxes towards them. Make that stick to the wall, and it will all change real fast!

  8. Home school children have the academic achievement scores to prove they will get a better education at home. As far as social I don't want my kid forced to associate with kids who are out of control and will introduce drugs and poor behavior to my kid.

  9. Home school kids are misfits who will become part of a fringe society.

  10. Don't assume that private schools are better either. There are many disadvantages to sending them to private school. They have their own problems too. We've had experience with both private and public and prefer the public schools our children are attending now. And money isn't an issue here.
