Dog Pulls Unconscious Owner From Train's Path

A pit bull named Lilly is being hailed a hero after she pulled her unconscious owner from the path of a freight train last week.

An engineer of a westward-bound freight train saw a dog pulling a woman away from the tracks in the early hours of May 3 in Shirley. The engineer tried to stop, but couldn't avoid hitting the 8-year-old dog.

The woman, identified as Christine Spain, wasn't hurt, but the train's wheels sliced through Lilly's right foot, fractured her pelvis in multiple locations and caused other internal injuries.

  2. Finally a positive article about the oh so deadly pit bull. Breeds of dogs are not aggressive, it is the way they are brought up and the affection given. I have seen plenty a aggressive chihuahua but yet they don't get a bad rap!!

  3. What are the stats on pitbulls? I love animals, especially after reading stories like these, but hear too many stories about pit bulls attacking people. In fact, I just heard about a Wicomico teacher's wife who was attacked last week. Scary...

  9. The owner "collapsed"? Or was drunk?

Either way, God bless Lilly and I pray she pulls through and lives a long life.

  11. My pitbull is amazingly lovable but also the best security system to have since he can sense things long before anyone approaches my property.

  12. It's all about the Owners when it comes to any dogs behavior.
Irresponsible owners having a dog that has the ability to cause severe harm are the ones to be penalized But----seems the Law doesn't give enough leaway there----so they go after the animal-----the real animal is the owners who turn an innocent animal into a beast!
