Today's Survey Question 4-18-12

Wicomico County is raising taxes to the maximum level allowed by law. The City of Salisbury announced yesterday they too will attempt to raise taxes in the City. O'Malley has raised taxes, tolls and fees everywhere you can imagine. Property values have plummeted. Liberals seem to be fine with all of these increases. However, we'd like to know, are you OK with all of these tax increases and fees locally and throughout the state of Maryland?

  1. No, why would anyone be OK with it? We're not as safe, being paid less then the average wage, spending more money to help fund our govt. Meanwhile who is looking after us? I thought that is why we were funding the gov't so they can help this country...I do not see any help coming. Tax more, pay more, but get paid the same wage for 10 years how does that make any sense at all?

  3. As far as I'm concerned; there is never a time to raise taxes. If leadership at ALL levels were more responsible and had to follow the laws they make for everyone else; if they saw the monies they had to manage as their own and not someone elses and if they were held accountable every step of the way, we wouldn't be in this mess.

I'm very upset with the people who screwed us locally (rick p., conway, cain, and frederickson.) I'm angry at the people at the state level and the local level who continue to spend our dollars like there's no tomorrow.

I hope all of this can be corrected when we go to vote on these people again, but i'm afraid the citizens will forget. Please let's not forget...

  6. There IS money in accounts in different parts of our government that should be spent before our taxes are raised.re: millions in a fund to build a new ball park...millions in a large pocket at the landfill. and lord only knows what else is being held for "bad" times. People talk and some of us listen. Sell off the property owned by the county on the water...I know it is easier just to raise taxes.

  7. I have no problem with it as long as everyone pays their fair share. I believe that is why we are in the mess we are in now.Tax cuts for rich, tax shelters, people just not paying altogether. The honest hardworking people that actually pay their taxes are the ones that get the shaft. You could say we have created our own monster.

  8. no i am not in favor of any increaes! these representatives have misused, misappropriated, and mishandled out money into oblivion and instead of accountability they just want to take more. and what do we get in return? life in a pit of a city with no community growth and a public school system we should be ashamed of. thanks for nothing...

  9. 11:50-You and a lot of others to come.I don't know how many have thought of this, but these actions encourage large scale retail stores while discouraging manufacturing corporations. For that and many more reasons Delaware and Md are becoming more like 2 separate countries rather than 2 separate states.

  10. Wicomico County should take pride in the fact that they can say they are in the big leagues now, since they will match the HIGHEST piggyback tax in the entire state, equal to (Balt. City, Howard County, Montgomery and Prince George's County). SHAME on the representatives who have given the citizens of Wicomico County this honor.

This along with the many other tax increases the state, county and city has added to our already high tax structure is the last straw. I WILL BE MOVING FROM THIS COUNTY AND THE STATE AS QUICKLY AS I CAN!!!!!!

  12. Liberal spenders have created a monster they can't kill.At this point there are no alternatives other than a tax hike at the state and county levels.I am only ok with raising taxes at the same rate that budget cuts are made.I've had to do it to keep my business viable and it's past time for the government to do so.

  14. Jim Ireton is trying to raise taxes, not "the City."

He can count on Laura Mitchell not to override a veto this time.
