The Town of Selbyville, DE. has voted to move forward by the end of the month to require business who serve liquor to give last call at 11:30 PM and stop serving completely at midnight.
Apparently the Police are having problems later in the evening and feel this will curb these issues. Funny how they didn't set a curfew for teenagers and instead have gone after tax paying adults.
While there really aren't that many businesses in Selbyville serving alcohol, this not only screws the business owner, it screws the customers who will, (without a doubt) find other establishments outside Town limits to patronize.
Every single day we continue to watch our country fall to pieces. Every day we watch our elected officials take more and more away from our quality way of life.
A revolution is in the making, you just wait and see. You can only take away so much before the masses decide enough is enough. Clearly our votes no longer matter.
Don't blame the Town- blame Pomeroy's.
ReplyDeleteThe Selbyville PD had to put on extra patrols because of Pomeroy's. The town is not their private security force, so let's get that straight right off the bat. If they choose to play music that attacts gangsta wannabe's who can't follow rules, like no smoking and start fights at the drop of a hat, then Pomeroy's needs to hire their own security force. My advice is to hire something equivalent to a SWAT Team, with they type of crowd they are attracting.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how we the "rats" are just sitting back and letting the gate keepers whittle away on every right we have. Selbyville is close enough to OC that their customers will opt for there as a destination rather than stay right at home. Its amazing how we tax payers are so dum and need the political know it alls to think for us?
ReplyDeleteThe 2 bars that I know of are in the Food Lion shopping center on 113 and Pomeroy's just South of it. Pomerroy's is more a drink a beer on the parking lot kind of place. One reason Selbyville might want to do this is to avoid staffing a patrolman after midnight. After all, it's a 2 cop town. It could also indirectly benefit the Selbyville Elks lodge located just across the border in MD since the curfew would not apply to them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a simple solution then Gary. You and others who feel this way can present to the Town a proposal in which you and others can reimbuse the PD for the extra patrols.
ReplyDeleteIf Pomeroy's is the main culprit...simple...pull their liquior license. Why punish all the establishments for one businesses short comings. Does the town not have the balls to single out one place for some reason...is it the make-up of the customers that they fear will put them in a bad light? I believe any police force is there to enforce the laws...not change the laws to make it easier on themselves. Attacking all business owners in the economic state of today is the easy way out. Have the balls to say what they mean and to address those that are the cause. Quit the PC dance and quit taking the rights away from the masses because of the few who can act right.
ReplyDelete10:33, there have been hugh brawls at Pomeroys where not only the Selbyville PD responded but also the PD's from surrounding areas.
ReplyDeleteThe place is a mess. Looks like a drug house.
They had a stabbing at Pomeroy's just last month.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's that easy Gary. Liquor licenses are governed by state laws and I don't believe problems such as Pomeroy's is experiencing are grounds to pull someone's liquor license.
ReplyDeleteGary if only this establishment is the problem and they stop serving only them at midnight they will just go to the next place that is open later. If the problem is with Pomeroy's lets keep it there and not spread it to another place in that town.
ReplyDeleteI still don't think all the place should be punished for the actions of one place but like I said these people will just move to the next place and create problems at a more respectable place.
But I thought everybody was moving to Del.
ReplyDeleteThese aren't even Selbyville people that are causing problems like guns being fired and fighting with knives. They are coming from Berlin and Snow Hill even. It's because Pomeroy's has "dances", if you know what I mean. I don't think the one other establishment in town should be punished either but I don't seem to recall that they have even complained. Maybe I missed something.
ReplyDeletePomeroy's can't be singled out; that would be considered racist and you know we can't allow that.
ReplyDeleteNo body in their right mind is going to work there doing security so then you got 2 problems. Not in their right mind security personal and not in their right mind patrons. The 2 don't mix.
ReplyDeletePunish the business and take away their business and liquor lisense. Don't punish businesses and society as a whole. The same has been done at the Golith shopping center in Salisbury, quite a few times. The same as the under 21 club in downtown Salisbury.
ReplyDeletei think the town is doing Pomeroys a favor.Slow this thing down before they have to shut them down.
