Former TSA Official Says Current System is Broken

A former official with the Transportation Security Administration told ABC News Wednesday that passengers should be able to take knives aboard planes.

"Carry a big knife, carry five knives," said Kip Hawley, former TSA administrator. "The focus shoul be explosives and toxins, things that can kill a lot of people very fast."

Hawley's book, "Permanent Emergency: Inside the TSA and the Fight for the Future of American Security," which he co-wrote with Nathan Means, was released Tuesday.

  1. Joe, As someone who is very shall we say skilled with an edged weapon I would love to carry my knife on flights again. I don't now, or did I ever intend to even have it open while on the plane but, I would certainly like to defend myself and/or my fellow passengers if somebody forced me to exercise that option.

  2. And everyone should have a sidearm on their belt, too. Politeness will reign, and absolutely NO ONE would be dumb enough to try a hijacking!
