The Daily Times Is, Well, Worthless Any More

10 DEBT: Student loan payments could double 1 Georgetown woman named Mother of Year 1 GRAPEVINE 1 Beware of ticks as summer weather approaches 1 GRAPEVINE The above shows the number of comments on their most popular articles, (and even complete sections). Salisbury News averages around 200 comments per day, getting the community involved. Our local traffic is higher that ANY local MSM source and we're less than a hand full of people simply trying to educate the Eastern Shore. We're not backed by Gannett, Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC and the likes. So what does that tell you. It tells you that when a select few dedicated AMERICANS come together for a better cause, (the truth) we can and will make a bigger difference. Forgive me for being repetitive but Greg Bassett and Joe Carmean flat out told me, "we love competition". This was back when I told them, if they don't publish the truth, I'll start my own Newspaper. You have to wonder, the Daily Times had more than 200 employees at that time. Now they have around 12. They had their very own building, press, you name it. Now they rent and farm out their printing. The paper was one in which you could spend hours on end reading, now it's a joke. It used to be $ .25 cents per day, now it's $1.00+. Your daily read in that newspaper is "Our View" and not what the general public believes. They try to come off as if their view, (which is always inaccurate) is what you should believe to be true. You know, like, the government will pay 96% of the cost to build Bennett Middle School, as just one example. They quote the people they interview, knowing what they're quoting is a lie. Here at Salisbury News, when we get a quote and it's a lie, we're calling the person out no matter who they are and that's what we're supposed to do. Unfortunately Blogger has enforced a two word verification for our comments. There's nothing we can do about that but even so we're still averaging more than 200 comments per day. Who knows how many we've lost per day because of this word verification but hopefully that will soon change. The Daily Times is now ending their pieces with questions in the hopes of gaining more comments like the following, "Can we declare a consensus on that?" Who knows, maybe it will work. In the mean time they'll need to work a whole lot harder to try to catch up to our numbers. However, in order to do so they'll have to start reporting information, (like the outbreak at the Zoo yesterday) rather than 2 or 3 days after it happens. Yeah, I know, they have to gather up all their facts first, right?

  1. Funny you should publish this article today. Just a few hours ago my wife and I went into Wal-mart to buy groceries. I saw racks upon racks of unsold DT newspapers. No one is buying them anymore. I almost took a photograph of the unsold newspaper racks - and now I wish I had.

  4. 3:10

Walmart does not stock stuff that does not sell -- today's weather probably accounts for that situation.

  5. They say at some point in everyone's life they will meet their match. That being said,I just wanted to take this moment to say Hello.

  6. I noticed it to in the Gordy Tiger Mart this morning that their rack was full. It's as if there is a conscience effort by the public to refrain from buying into this media. I believe their diminished circulation is very obvious.

Maybe the sales volume would pick-up if they only realiized the error of their ways in reporting.

  7. Watch what would happen if reporter Bruce Stump would leave.

  8. Today's DT Monday is even worse.. a liberal hit piece on birth control pills.. the college kid can't afford $13/month for her BCP to control gyn problems.. even so should government make every prescription free? I don't buy the paper and when start charging for reading it on the internet that will be the end of them.

What a bunch of losers--Bassett the biggest one

  9. You are correct about the selectivity and favoritism shown by the “Your View” section of The Daily Times. The purported purpose for this component of the paper is to allow commentary from readers on issues of local interest. In reality it is an outlet only for those views supported by the paper. Susan Parker will not post any comment if it does not agree with the ideas of the paper no matter how well written or researched. If you write an opinion critical of a protected institution (like PRMC) your article will never see the light of day. You will be aware that the process is underway when they tell you that your article is “In editorial review”. Here is an excerpt from my response to Susan Parker in July 2011 after an article I wrote about problems at PRMC was censored:

Let me be more direct. I am sure the Peninsula Regional Medical Center is a big advertiser at The Daily Times and it will be very difficult to run articles that are critical to the institution. We are all aware of the saying “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” and I can’t help but think that this may be the case here. . . But it makes critical discussion of these protected institutions all the more difficult in the mainstream media. A real and open dialog and communication of ideas is usually a good thing”

That is, from the perspective The Daily Times only if “Your View” agrees with “Their View”!

  10. To 8:21

I have encountered the same in my previous experience with The Daily Times - Our View.

I have learned through my personal experiences with the former MSM that it their way or the highway.

Not good for a so called Democratic Republic.

  11. Joe, newspapers all over the country are hurting. Your blog is not necessarily the reason for the demise of the local newspaper. As far as number of comments, people(like me) who read the paper, have no need to comment or even look at it online. Yes,I agree it isn't the best paper I've ever read, but for those of us old folks who still like to hold the paper with our morning joe, we will still buy it as long as it's available.

  12. It was difficult when the double word verification first arrived here, they were hard to read. The more I have looked at them over the past two months or so the better I can read the word verifications. It's no longer a problem.

  13. Excellent post Mr. Rumney. I have heard your name mentioned in conversations on this topic.

  14. DT really screwed up on yesterdays paper (Sunday April 22). Part B about Dilmus Jarrett, "Army Corps airman received medal of honor." I expected to read about him receiving the Medal of Honor, but it was the Distinguished Flying Cross. Medal of honor should not have been used in the title, shows the lack of knowledge of military issues the MSM has.
