Beating of Alabama Man Not Seen as Hate Crime, Despite Claim 'Trayvon' Invoked

A racially charged beating of a white Alabama man by a throng of African-Americans is not being investigated as a hate crime, despite one witness' claim that she heard an assailant exclaim: "Now that's justice for Trayvon."

Matthew Owens, of Mobile, Ala., was assaulted with baseball bats, paint cans and other weapons at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday after telling a group of children to stop playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive, according to Ashley Rains, public information officer for the Mobile Police Department.

After the children left the area, a group of adults armed with weapons returned and confronted Owens, 40, in his front yard, where he was assaulted. Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, told WKRG she witnessed the attack and that there were as many as 20 assailants. Parker said she overheard one of them say, "Now that's justice for Trayvon."

  1. This is what the INSTIGATOR AND CHIEF is instigating in our Country.

If it was the other way around their would be race riots and destruction of cities.

When are we going to say ENOUGH!

  2. Justice for Trayvon has already been served. He was killed in the commssion of an assault and battery. The government is stoking the fires of anarchy and should be considered the enemy when the race war of their making starts. Get ready folks-it's coming to a town near you real soon.

  6. 9:02.....when he inject his opinion of the defendants guilt in advance of due process and then stated if he had a son he would have looked like travon he specifically referred to his african ancestry. It implied that it was racially motivated thereby stoking the flames.

  7. Hey 9:20,

"...so i‘ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now, but obviously, this is a tragedy. i can only imagine what these parents are going through. and when i think about this boy, i think about my own kids. and you know, i think every parent in america should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this. and that everybody pulls together, federal, state and local, to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened."

"...and that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened. as well as the specifics of the incident."

"they are right to expect that.....we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened"

Yes 9:20, Obama sent out a stunning indictment of Zimm. with this! And he obviously endorsed the idiots who conducted the attack here. LOL clowns.

  10. So you clowns hold onto one line but disregard the other 95% of the statment that goes against what you are saying? LOL, look in your mirror to find the moron 9:44.

  11. @9:44 that is the exact point 9:20 is trying to imply. Dont be so Quick to call someone a moron when you can't even interpret a simple comment.

  12. @ 9:55 explain to me the last President you heard on national television condeming a person before ANY FACTS were released. He had no more clue than you or I what went on yet he jumped on stage and talked abou thow this could have been his child. Let's get real here his child would not be wearing a hoodie and walking around the city. He weighed in on this before he knew any info. DO you realize how powerful the opinion of the President is? But of course I am the moron for considering that wrong. Go dig a hole jump in it and bury yourself.

  13. OK, If this guy that got beat to an inch of his life had a gun I'm sure the outcome would have been totally different!!! Now go ahead and tell me this would not have been self defense. This country has some real problems and nobody seems to want to do crap about it but cry.

  14. 10:07 I posted a huge chunk of Obama's statement on the issue. Please point out where he was "condeming a person". Do you mean the part where he acknowledged the pain any parent would feel after losing a child or the part where he said we need to get the evidence and he doesn't want to impair the investigation? I'm confused. Please enlighten me before I jump in that hole.

  15. I guess when he said if he had a son he would look like Trayvon. He is the President of the United States not a talk show host 10:27. I think he showed his true colors that day no pun intended.

As for the rest of these animals I guess they forgot what happened the last time we played cowboys and indians. There are a lot of cowboys around and not so many indians. enough said

  16. 10:27 is living in a fantasy world if you do no tthink everyone and their mother heard Obama statement. That right there would affect any fair trial Zimmerman could have recieved. If you think otherwise then you really are a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  17. and @10:27 I notice you did leave out the "he would look like my son" part to that statement. Any particualr reasoning behind that? Could it be that you knew what it sounded like?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 11:15 because it's obvious that so many of you latched onto that single part of the statement without any regard to the rest. Seems to me carefully gathering all of the evidence is a major part of a fair trial.

10:27, Obama clearly stated he needed to be careful about his words exactly because everyone would hear. lol. Boy, there really is no use pointing out facts/logic to this crowd. I now feel thoroughly dumbed down for the day.

If Ive learned anything since I started reading the comments to this blog, its that being felt "thoroughly dumbed down" pretty much hits the nail on the head.

a lot of my salisbury locals seem to be extremely uneducated or just misguided.
