Newsweek has rated the top 13 most useless majors, based on earnings, growth projections and unemployment numbers from recent grads and experienced grads.

  3. First and foremost, its not what you do in college or your degree. Its what you do after graduation because now its for real. I was a history major and had no intention of using the degree. What I did use was the interaction and ability to communicate with people. It proved I was marketable because I was given a class study to complete in four years and was successful in doing just that. I started my own business and 35 years later sold it for a very tidy profit. My degree didn't play a part of my business. Go into HVAC, Plumbing or electrical. We are always going to need those services. Your goal then would be to own the company.

  5. How can you say these degrees are useless? What a ridiculous statement! Getting a college degree is an accomplishment to be proud of! I'm sick of hearing people say that higher education isn't important. What kind of a message does this send to the next generation? Many people outside of the US would be honored to have the opportunity to gain an education here in the states. We need people in all of these areas. . .I think the word 'competitive' would be more appropriate than 'useless.'

  7. I have a History & Political Science degree and have been gainfully employed for 32+ years in the private sector.
